Power-aware design is one of the most important areas to be emphasized in multimedia mobile systems, in which data transfers dominate the power consumption. In this paper, we propose a new architecture for motion compensation (MC) of H.264/AVC with power reduction by decreasing the data transfers. For this purpose, a reconfigurable microarchitecture based on data type is proposed for interpolation and it is mapped onto the dedicated motion compensation IP (intellectual property) effectively without sacrificing the performance or the system latency. The original quarter-pel interpolation equation that consists of one or two half-pel interpolations and one averaging operation is designed to have different execution control modes, which result in decreasing memory accesses greatly and maintaining the system efficiency. The simulation result shows that the proposed method could reduce up to 87% of power consumption caused by data transfers over the conventional method in MC module.
Location information of mobile objects is applied to vehicle tracking, digital battlefields, location based services, and telematics. Their location coordinates are periodically measured and stored in the application systems. The linear function is mainly used to estimate the location information that is not in the system at the query time point. However, a new method is needed to improve uncertainties of the location representation, because the location estimation by linear function induces the estimation error. This paper proposes an application method of the cubic spline interpolation in order to reduce deviation of the location estimation by linear function. First, we define location information of the mobile object moving on the two-dimensional space. Next, we apply the cubic spline interpolation to location estimation of the proposed data model and describe algorithm of the estimation operation. Finally, the precision of this estimation operation model is experimented. The experimentation comes out more accurate results than the method by linear function, although the proposed location estimation function uses the small amount of information. The proposed method has an advantage that drops the cost of data storage space and communication for the management of location information of the mobile objects.
Frame Rate Up Conversion (FRUC) generate interpolated frames between existing frames using motion estimation and motion compensation interpolation considering temporal redundancy. Falsely-estimated FRUC, however, can generate poor quality frames because FRUC typically uses blending-based interpolation method. As skipping an interpolating process between frames generate mis-estimated motion vectors, could improve Quality of Services of FRUC. In this Paper we analyze luminance histogram and motion vector consistency in frames generating poor quality interpolated frames. We conclude these features could help to be a clue in classifying the frames, which often result in the poor quality of FRUC results through the analysis and experiment.

In wireless sensor network, to provide the proper responses quickly for diverse events, wireless sensor nodes have to cooperate with each other. For successful cooperation, the time synchronization among sensor nodes is an important requirement for application execution. In the wireless sensor network, the message packets including time information are used for the time synchronization. However, the transmission of many message packets will exhaust the battery of wireless sensor nodes. Since wireless sensor nodes works on the limited battery capacity, the excessive transmission of message packets has an negative impact upon their lifetime. In this paper, the Reference Interpolation Protocol (RIP) is proposed to reduce the number of message packets for the time synchronization. The proposed method performs the time interpolation between the reference packet's time and the global time of the base station. The proposed method completes the synchronization operation with only 2 message packets when compared to the previous Reference Broadcast Synchronization (RBS) technique. Due to the simple synchronization procedure, our method greatly reduces the number of synchronization messages and showed the 12.7 times less power consumption than the RBS method. From the decrease in the transmission of message packets, the convergence time among wireless sensor nodes is shortened and the lifetime of wireless sensor nodes is also prolonged as much as the amount of saved battery energy.
The statistical context-sensitive spelling correction technique in this thesis is based upon Shannon's noisy channel model. The interpolation method is used for the improvement of the correction method proposed in the paper, and the general interpolation method is to fill the middle value of the probability by (N-1)-gram and (N-2)-gram. This method is based upon the same statistical corpus. In the proposed method, interpolation is performed using the frequency information between the statistical corpus and the correction document. The advantages of using frequency of correction documents are twofold. First, the probability of the coined word existing only in the correction document can be obtained. Second, even if there are two correction candidates with ambiguous probability values, the ambiguity is solved by correcting them by referring to the correction document. The method proposed in this thesis showed better precision and recall than the existing correction model.

In this paper, quality control (QC) is applied to each meteorological element of weather data collected from seven IoT sensors such as temperature. In addition, we propose a method for estimating the data regarded as error by means of machine learning. The collected meteorological data was linearly interpolated based on the basic QC results, and then machine learning-based QC was performed. Support vector regression, decision table, and multilayer perceptron were used as machine learning techniques. We confirmed that the mean absolute error (MAE) of the machine learning models through the basic QC is 21% lower than that of models without basic QC. In addition, when the support vector regression model was compared with other machine learning methods, it was found that the MAE is 24% lower than that of the multilayer neural network and 58% lower than that of the decision table on average.
If continuous moving objects are managed by conventional database, it is not possible for them to store all position information changed over time in the database. Therefore, a time period of regular rate is determined and position information of moving objects are discretely stored in the system for every time period. However, if continuous moving objects are managed as discrete model, we will have problems which cannot properly answer to the query about uncertain past or future position information. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose the method and algorithm which use the history information stored in the same database, to estimate the past or future location of moving objects. The cubic spline interpolation is used to estimate the past location and the mean movement value of the history information is used to predict the future location of moving objects. Finally, from the location estimation experimentation of using virtual trajectory and location sample, we proved that the proposed cubic spline function has less error than the linear function.
