고분자 과학기술은 한국인에 유리하다

  • 고분자 과학은 골격이 1940년대에 확립되어 이제 회갑을 맞는 활기찬 학문이다. 오랜전통을 갖는 서구과학의 타 학문에 비해 6.25동란등으로 10년 정도의 학문적 공백기를 감안하더라도 근소한 핸디캡으로 출발하였으므로 고분자 과학과 기술의 성취에는 한국인의 입장이 유리할 것이다.

과학자에 대한 청소년의 인상 (이미지)

  • The main purpose of this study is to investigate the Korean youths' impressions of the scientist. The concept of impression is assumed to reflect our significant view of an object better than that of image. That is, the basic assumption is that we tend to behave toward an object, based on its impression which is conceived to be "significant". In late August and early September 2002, a national survey for 1,204 youth (406 for 5th grad; 381 for 8th grade; and 417 for 11th grade) was conducted to find the Korean youths' impressions of the scientist. Our major finding is that the Korean youths' most impressions of the scientist were re his or her activities such as inventing, experimenting, researching, etc. And the major sources of those impressions were found to be television, book, and class. Other findings were about youths' impressions of the science teacher and opinions of the scientist as a profession. Finally, some policy-related implications based on survey results were presented at the end.

Exploring the Professional Development Program for Science High School Teachers using Partnership with Scientists (과학자와의 파트너십을 활용한 과학고 교사 전문성 신장 프로그램 탐색)

  • This research explored the direction of professional development programs for science high school science teachers through partnership with scientists. Eighteen science teachers and twenty three experts attended as partners during two weeks program. To find any finding and implication, survey and interview were conducted with participant, and participant observation was conducted to understand interaction between them. It was found that the professional development program through partnership with scientists would contribute to increasing expertise of science high school teachers. From findings, it was suggested to use professional development program where scientists participate for the professional development of science high school teachers.

제5차 국내외 한국과학기술자 종합학술대회 안내

  • 한국과학기술단체총연합회(회장 민관식)는 제 5차 국내외 한국과학기술자종합학술대회를 재미한국과학기술자협회(7월 1일이후 회장 최상일)와 공동으로 오는 7월 10일부터 20일까지 서울대학교 관악캠퍼스에서 개최키로 했다. 재미과학기술자 300명(가족포함)을 비롯하여 국내과학기술자 1,000명등 1,300여명이 대거 참석케 될 이번 종합학술대회는 과총이 단독으로 재미과협과 공동주최(종전에는 KIST가 주관)하는 그 첫 번째 대회로서 과총은 이번대회를 명실공히 국제적인 행사가 될 수 있도록 대회준비에 만전을 기하고 있다. 다음에 금번 종합학술대회의 계획된 내용과 대회기간중 발표될 분과별 연제및 연사를 소개한다.

  • 지난 5월 19일 본연합회에서 주최한 제2회 전국과학기술자대회가 시내 삼일당에서 정일권 국무총리 김기형 과기기술처장관을 비롯하여 과학기술계 원로귀빈 다수참석하에 2000여명의 회원이 일당에 모여 성대한 행사로 막을 올린 바 이는 우리 과학기술인의 대동단결로 치솟는 자발적 웅변이기도 하였다. 우리 과학기술인 자신의 분발과 사명완수라는 자각의 계기요, 과학기술진흥사업의 범국가적인 사업추진에 영위기와 환경조성을 하는데 선구적 역할을 담당 수행한다는 뜻있는 대행자로써 차후, 과학기술인의 연중행사로 그 기틀을 굳건하게 밀어 나아갈것이다.

The Respectful Characteristics of a Scientist and the Effects of Dr. Hwang, Woo Seok Event on Science Gifted Students (과학 영재 학생들이 존경하는 과학자의 조건과 황우석 박사 사건에 대한 과학 영재들의 인식)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of a respectful scientist from the perspective of the science gifted students and their recognition on the event of Dr. Hwang, Woo Seok and its effects on their future goal decision. The participants of this study are 19(11 males, 8 females) second grade of junior high school students, chemistry department of S Science-gifted Education Center, and 44(32 males, 12 females) first and second grade of J Science high school students. The questionnaire was developed and both quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. The result showed the characteristics of a scientist the students respect were varied by school level and the sex. For the event of Dr. Hwang, Woo Seok, 47.6% students recognized that he must be banished from the science field and 36.5% students showed sympathy for Dr. Hwang, Woo Seok. It was said that most science gifted students realized the importance of honesty through this event. Most science gifted students were recognized the necessity of moral education in science gifted education.
