The computed tomography(CT) simulation tool provides virtual experimental environment without using a high cost medical equipment. We made teaching materials for the CT simulation tools and educated the students and entry level of radio-technologists. We divided the experimental objects into two groups; students who took only theoretical classes (group 1) and students who took both theoretical and simulation classes (group 2). The results showed that the group 2 outperformed group 1 significantly, which indicates that the simulation program provides a good educational material for not only students but also radio-technologists.
This study examined whether the "self-guided interpretation" media in the Yeoncheon area of the Hantangang River UNESCO Geopark are intelligible for visitors. Accordingly, two on-site investigations were conducted in the Hantangang River Global Geopark in September and November 2022. The Yeoncheon area, known for its diverse geological features and the era of geological attraction formation, was selected for analysis. We analyzed the readability levels, graphic characteristics, and alignment with science curriculum of the interpretive media specific to geological sites among a total of 36 self-guided interpretive media in the Yeoncheon area. Results indicated that information boards, primarily offering guidance on geological attractions, were the most prevalent type of interpretive media in the Yeoncheon area. The quantity of text in explanatory media surpassed that of a 12th-grade science textbook. The average vocabulary grade was similar to that of 11th- and 12th-grade science textbooks, with somewhat reduced readability due to a high occurrence of complex sentences. Predominant graphic types included illustrative photographs, aiding comprehension of the geological formation process through multi-structure graphics. Regarding scientific terms used in the interpretive media, 86.3% of the terms were within the "Solid Earth" section of the 2015 revised curriculum, with the majority being at the 4th-grade level. The 11th-grade optional curriculum terms comprised the second largest portion, and 13.7% of all science terms were from outside the curriculum. Notably, variations in the scientific terminology's complexity was based on geological attractions. Specifically, the terminology level on the homepage tended to be generally higher than that on information boards. Through these findings, specific factors impeding visitor comprehension of geological attractions in the Yeoncheon area, based on the interpretation medium, were identified. We suggest further research to effect improvements in self-guided interpretation media, fostering geological resource education for general visitors and anticipating advancements in geology education.

Recently, due to COVID-19, non-face-to-face online lectures are being held all over the world. In higher education in the post-corona era, distance learning has become the main teaching and learning method. At this time, Metaverse is being proposed as a new alternative. Metaverse has basic elements such as avatars, 3D space, and activities accompanied by interaction, which can be seen as a difference compared to existing VR (Virtual Reality) contents. This study designed and built an educational metaverse platform that can be applied to actual lectures by reflecting the three elements of the metaverse. In addition, we implemented a cross-device-platform that supports various devices such as HMDs, smartphones, tablets, and PCs by reflecting user requirements through usability tests such as middle school, high school, college students, and parents, so that anyone can easily participate in Metaverse lectures. Currently, the metaverse platform is being developed and serviced in various ways, but there are hardly any services designed for education. Just as services such as Zoom, the existing video conferencing solution, were used for non-face-to-face education, some functions of the currently serviced metaverse are utilized for education and used in the form of a one-time event. The educational metaverse platform developed through this study is expected to be a reference in constructing the metaverse for education in the future.
This study developed a field trip program called "Planning a science exhibition" and explored elementary science-gifted students' perceptions of the program and learning experiences influencing them. To this end, 56 elementary science-gifted students in grades 4-6 from in an university-affiliated science-gifted education institute in metropolitan area were selected to participate in the field trip program. After the program, the students answered a survey regarding their perceptions of the program. Additionally, 19 students were selected for group interviews to further explore their survey responses. Results showed that many elementary science-gifted students perceived the program positively in various cognitive and affective aspects. Some students also pointed out certain limitations of the program. Five interconnected learning experiences were identified as influencing the students' perceptions: "experiences fostering creativity", "non-residential camp-type project-based learning experiences", "self-directed learning experiences", "experiences utilizing digital devices", and "collaborative experiences". Educational implications regarding these results were discussed.
This study analyzed the learning characteristics of polar education programs operated by polar research institutes in domestic and foreign countries and aims to provide directions for improving domestic polar education programs. Using the database provided by the Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI), 120 programs from 16 research institutes in 9nine countries were selected. Each program was analyzed based on educational level, instructor, education period, learning place, learning environment, learning content, and learning method. Significant differences in domestic and foreign programs in terms of instructors, operational methods, educational places, and learning methods were found. Based on these findings, we discuss the direction for improving domestic polar education by expanding the base of polar education, diversifying the learning methods, and systematizing polar education using examples of actual programs. Based on the scientific, social, economic, and cultural values and importance of the polar region, this study presents specific directions to further spread and sustain polar education and culture in Korea.

This paper surveys the state-of-the-art in korean commercial Internet of Things(IoT) services for deriving the core elements of a curriculum for major courses of IoT using RaspberryPi3. First, we survey the state-of-the-art of IoT researches and commercial services in three korean major telecommunication corporations such as Korean Telecommunications (KT), LGU+ Telecommunication (LGT), and SK Telecommunication(SKT). Second, we consider the components and advantages of the RaspberryPi3 which is popular as a representative educational tool. Concludingly, this paper derives the core elements of curriculum for major courses of IoT using RaspberryPi3 from above both processes. The corresponding elements consist of platforms, hardwares, softwares, and big-data network. Based on the important design elements of the IoT curriculum using Raspberry Pie 3, we taught embedded system course to junior students for one semester. It was successfully completed and more than 90% students were satisfied with its contents and amounts.

It has been suggested that character education, taught only in ethics and social science, should be integrated into other subjects including science education. In terms of inquiry and the nature of science, science education is related to character education, which is emphasized by SSI (Socioscientific Issue) education. Followed by necessity of character education, the Character Education Promotion Act was established in 2015. To investigate what and how character education is conducting in schools, analysis of curriculums and textbooks is needed in terms of elements underlined in the Character Education Promotion Act. For this purpose, this research analyzed general remarks and science sections in the 2009 revised and the 2015 revised curriculums and science textbooks based on the 2009 revised curriculum with regard to essential virtues in the Character Education Promotion Act. Results showed that parts of essential virtues were included in both curriculums, of which elements were inconsistent with those of science textbooks. Curriculums and textbooks reflecting whole elements faithfully need to be developed.
The college of education should support pre-service science teachers to develop various abilities as a teacher, in which the teaching ability is the most fundamental one. This study is the result of a longitudinal research project following the processes that pre-service science teachers develop their teaching ability in a college of education. The data gathered include movie clips of seminar presentation, teaching demonstration, secondary school science experiment, and classes in the practicum. In order to analyze the teaching abilities in various context, a framework was developed. The framework consists of 'content,' 'progress,' and 'verbal/nonverbal' with which the movie clips of 5 pre-service science teachers were analyzed. The teaching abilities of pre-service science teachers showed overall development, that include the understanding of learners and curriculum in the 'content,' the time-management and the interaction with learners in the 'progress,' and the nonverbal behavior in the 'verbal/nonverbal.' The implications were discussed on the education in the college of education, such as the increase of teaching opportunities for pre-service science teachers and the support for those opportunities.
