Structural Relationships between Learning Organizational Culture, Science Epistemological Beliefs, Science Teaching Efficacy, Science Teaching Professionalism Perceived by Elementary School Teachers (초등교사가 지각한 학습조직문화, 과학 인식론적 신념, 과학 교수 효능감, 과학 수업 전문성 간의 구조적 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence and structural relationship of variables related to science teaching professionalism. These variables set up learning organizational culture as exogenous variables and science epistemological beliefs and science teaching efficacy as endogenous variables. For this study, a survey was conducted with 499 elementary science teachers from Seoul and Gyeonggi province participating. The results of this study are as follows: Science epistemological beliefs and science teaching efficacy were found to directly affect science teaching professionalism. In addition, learning organizational culture perceived by the teachers did not show significant effects on the science teaching professionalism, but it was found that it has direct significant effects on science epistemological beliefs and science teaching efficacy. Based on the results of this study, which examines the structural relationship between learning organizational culture, science epistemological beliefs, science teaching efficacy and science teaching professionalism. we deem that it is necessary to consider internal factors of teachers as well as ways to improve learning organizational culture.

  • 대통령 직속의 국가과학기술자문위원중 유일한 여성위원으로 활약하고 있는 이화여대 물리학과 모혜정교수. 모교수는 이화여대 재직중 공과대학을 설립하는데 주도적 역할을 했으며 6년동안 자연과학대학장과 대학원장을 맡아 지도력과 행정력을 발휘했다. 모교수는 남편인 서울대 물리학과 장회익교수와 함께 과학가문을 이루고 있다.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the trend of domestic studies related to science teaching-learning methods. We reviewed articles published according to year, method, subjects and topic. The methods reported commonly in science education books were extracted. Experiment, cooperative learning, and discussion were methods which had been researched widely. Experimental study of them was utilized most. And next content analysis, survey, and case study were utilized much. The most object of experimental study was middle school students. These reviewed papers showed effects which were related to science achievement, attitude, inquiry ability and self-efficacy. As a result of this study we should research to apply and develop science teaching-learning methods variously. We ought to enlarge research direction to analyze context which applies science teaching-learning methods to educational field by qualitative study. We should try to study effects of teaching-learning methods longitudinally and latitudinally.

Validation of Indicators for Science Teaching-Learning Competency of Pre-service Teachers and the Effect of Simulated Teaching (예비 교사의 과학 교수-학습 역량 지표 요인 검증과 모의 수업 실연이 역량에 미치는 효과)

  • This study validated the factor structure of the indicators for measuring pre-service teachers' science teaching-learning competency and analyzed the effects of simulated teaching practice on these competencies. Furthermore, it used response data from 175 pre-service teachers to verify the factor structure of the science teaching-learning competency indicators, and the data from 73 respondents from three departments to examine the effects of simulated teaching practice. To analyze the factor structure of science teaching-learning competency, the content validity index was calculated by five elementary school teachers, and the principal axis factoring with the Promax rotation and reliability analysis were conducted. Moreover, using, a paired sample t-test, the comparison of science teaching-learning competencies before and after simulated teaching practice was analyzed. The study results are as follows. The science teaching-learning competency indicators were revised and supplemented by 30 items under five factors, with a content validity index of .94. The exploratory factor analysis confirmed that 30 items were loaded onto the intended factors, and the reliability of the indicators was found to be .953 (in the sub-factor .829-.918). The paired sample t-test results revealed significant improvement in the pre-service teachers' science teaching-learning competencies before and after the simulated teaching practice. Furthermore, this study verified the significant effect of the simulated teaching practice on the pre-service teachers' science teaching-learning competencies and explained the need for continued implementation of the simulated teaching practice to reflect the specifics of school teaching in the pre-service teacher education curriculum. Moreover, it suggests the necessity of developing evaluation scales for the observer-rated scale, in addition to the self-report scales, to measure the teaching-learning competencies.

예비교사들의 과학을 잘하는 모습에 대한 인식

  • 교사들의 생각하는 과학학습의 목표는 학생들이 생각하는 과학학습의 목표와 다를 수 있다. 과학을 잘 하는 모습은 교사의 입장에서 볼 때 과학교수 목표를 의미한다. 그러한 의미에서 과학교사들은 학생들이 과학을 잘 하게 하기 위해 과학 수업을 하고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 그러나 과학을 잘하는 모습은 교사마다 다를 수 있기 때문에 교사마다 다른 지향점을 가지고 과학교수활동을 하게 된다. 본 연구의 목적은 예비 교사들의 과학을 잘하는 모습에 대한 인식을 탐색하는데 있다. 연구를 위해 과학을 전공하고 있는 1학년에서 4학년 사이의 예비교사 30명을 대상으로 개방형 질문으로 구성된 설문을 실시하였다. 연구결과 예비교사들이 지닌 과학을 잘 하는 모습에 대한 인식의 유형과 과학을 잘 하는 모습을 결정짓는 상황의 유형을 분류할 수 있었으며, 예비교사들의 과학을 잘하는 모습에 대한 인식과 과학교수목표의 차이를 확인할 수 있었다.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of portfolio system on science teaching efficacy beliefs. From Chongju National University of Education, 83 subjects were selected. All of them are college sophomores, and 5 of them are males. The portfolio system developed by the researcher had been administered during the 1st semester of 1999. Korean Science Teaching Efficacy Beliefs Instrument (K-STEBI) was administered before and after portfolio instruction. Some parts of students portfolios were analyzed qualitatively in terms of elementary science teaching confidence. After portfolio instruction, students' science teaching efficacy beliefs increased statistically meaningfully. Elementary science teaching confidence and positive attitudes toward portfolio system also showed marked increase. Portfolio system seems to be effective in fostering pre-service elementary teachers' science teaching efficacy beliefs, and be a powerful tool for teacher education.
