  • In this paper, we analyzed the effects of musical stimuli on humans in performing mathematical tasks through EEG measurements. The musical stimuli were divided into preferred music and non-preferred music, and mathematical tasks were divided into memorization task and procedure task. The data measured in the EEG experiments was divided into frequency bands of Theta, SMR, and Mid-beta because of the concentration. In our results, preferred music causes more positive emotional response than no music and non-preferred music regardless of the type of mathematical task.

  • In this paper, we analyzed through the EEG signals how musical stimulus affects learning activities. Musical stimuli were divided into sedative and stimulative tendency music, preferred and non-preferred music, and the learning activity tasks were divided into mathematics tasks and memorization tasks. The signals measured in the EEG experiments were analyzed with the power spectrum of SMR waves known to be related to human concentration. Those spectra used for quantitative comparison in this paper. As a result the power of the EEG signals was observed to be greater than the case where music was given as a stimulus. Regardless of the type of task, the power of the EEG signals was observed to be greater in the case of sedative tendency than in the case of stimulative tendency, and the power of the EEG signals was observed to be greater in the case of favorite music than in the case of unfavorite music. From these results, it is estimated that if the musical stimulus exists, in the case of sedative tendency music, and in the case of favorite music, concentration can be increased than in the relative case.

  • In this paper, we presented the results of analysis with data obtained through EEG measurements to confirm the effect of musical stimulus when performing mathematical tasks. While the subject was solving a mathematical task, favorite and unfavorite music classified according to the subject's preference were presented as musical stimulus and the tasks were divided into memorization task and procedure task. The data measured in the EEG experiments was divided into theta waves, SMR waves and mid-beta waves which are the frequency bands related to concentration to compare the relative power spectrum values. In our results, in the case of comparing no music with favorite music and no music with unfavorite music, a significant difference was observed in the several channels, and the average difference was shown in the channels F3 and F4 of the frontal lobe. In that channels, the power was found to be greater when the music was presented than the case where there was no music. Depending on the subject's preference, it was confirmed that favorite music showed greater brain activity than unfavorite music.

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the possibility of peer recommendation and to provide a diverse perspectives identifying for gifted elementary school students. The subjects were 355 elementary school students who were either fourth, fifth, and sixth grade from D elementary school located in Gyeonggi province, 165 elementary school students who are either fourth, fifth, and sixth grade from J elementary school located in Gyeonggi province, and 16 teachers who were home-room teachers for students surveyed. This research investigate the difference of creative personality, achievement motivation, problem solving patterns, and task preference inventory between students recommended by peer and students not recommended by peer. The results of this research were as follows. Firstly, the students recommended by peer showed the significantly higher creative personality, achievement motivation, problem solving patterns, and task preference than the student not recommended by peer. Secondly, as a result of comparing the students recommended by peer and students not recommended by peer for each grade, fifth and sixth grade students showed a significantly higher score in the test than other graders. Fourth grade students showed significantly higher score in every sections in the test, except for the section of creative personality. Therefore, the peer recommandation method can be applied to fifth, and sixth graders. Thirdly, the student recommended by both teacher and peer showed significantly higher problem solving patterns, and task preference scores than the student recommended only by teacher. Therefore, peer recommendation method can be an useful data for complementing teacher recommendation and it can identify gifted elementary school students.

  • This study is intended to provide fundamental information to improve the quality of student activities presented in the Clothing & Textiles How to Dress Appropriately' section of the current middle school 'Technology Home Economics' textbooks so that Home Economics may better reflect students' interests, making it applicable in real life. The survey was conducted to 154 male and 160 female students on their preferences regarding student activities. The results are as follows. First, students who like clothing & textiles section regard "Opportunities to take part in various kinds of practices and student activities" as the major reason for preference. And the single biggest reason why they dislike the unit was due to "Too much contents to be memorized." Among various contents regarding dress in the unit, "How to Wear Clothes That Look Good on Me, and the Right Ways to Wear Them" attracted the most attention, regardless of what contents they consider necessary, interesting, or helpful in real life. Second, as for the time of implementation of the activities, students preferred "End of each class". They also preferred small-group activities (group size), well-structured problems (type of problems) and tasks that require analysis based on theoretical principles through experiments and practices (methods of implementation). Third, the findings as to the actual experience of conducting the student activities indicated that, in most cases, student activities were conducted in accordance to what was suggested in the textbooks, but not to what the students preferred. Therefore, in order to make home economics more applicable to students, it is desirable to focus on their everyday lives as is favored by the students, and increase small-group activities. Also, suggesting various and comprehensive problematic situations such as non-structured, open-ended problems and encouraging diverse implementation would be helpful in improving students' critical and creative thinking abilities.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the correlation between the preferred sensation type and speech sounds, especially on $F_0$ and the speech rates. Data for the sensation types and speech sounds were collected from 36 undergraduate and graduate students (17 male, 19 female). Subjects were asked to read a given text (400 syllables), describe a drawing, and give answers to some questions. We measured speakers' $F_0$ and speech rates. The results show that type V (Visual) has the correlation with the speech rates when type D (Digital) was ruled out, and type A (Auditory) has the correlation with the speech rates when type D was included. Furthermore, the analysis of the mean values of V, A, K (Visual, Auditory, Kinethetic) indicates that type V is characterized with faster speech rates and higher $F_0$ in all parts except for interview and the same is true for that of V, A, K, D (Visual, Auditory, Kinethetic, Digital) in all parts. In conclusion, this study proved that the preferred sensation type has the correlation with $F_0$ and speech rates. Based on the results of this study, $F_0$ and speech rates can be used to analyze the sensation types for individualized education as well as consultation. In addition, this study has great significance in that it lays a foundation for the study on the correlation between a preferred sensation type and speech sounds.
