Diversity of Anther-derived Plants in Hot pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) (고추 약배양 후대식물체의 다양성)

  • Anthers of three cross combinations of hot-pepper(Capsicum annuum L.) were cultured on Dumas De Vaulx medium supplemented with some growth regulators. The embryo production efficiency and the diversity for agronomic traits in $A_2$ lines were investigated. The embryo production frequencies of hybrid combinations were ranged from 16.4% to 43.4%, the highest embryo induction combination was DGSH $\times$ C-NH with 43.4% embryogenic efficiency. Among total 275 $A_2$ lines, phenotypic variants were found in six lines, 2.1% variant frequency. The diversity of $A_2$ lines derived from anther culture was different according to the cross combinations. Fruit color was within parental range, no transgressive variation was observed. However leaf color showed transgressive variation. In fruit length, fruit width and fruit weight, one C-HC $\times$ DGSH and DGSH $\times$ C-NH showed great diversity compared with doner parents while Cheokjo 1 $\times$ C-NH crossed with Cheokjo 1 with big fruit shape showed small diversity. Stem length to 1st branch was relatively similer to or longer than donor parents. Stem thick exhibited remarkable diversity. Node number to 1st branch distributed alomost within the range of donor parents in C-HC $\times$ DGSH combination, however great transgressive variations were observed in DGSH $\times$ C-NH and Cheokjo 1 $\times$ C-NH combinations.

Effects of Fruit-set Position and Number of Fruits set per plant on netting, Fruit quality and Fruit weight in Netted melon (Cucumis melo L. var. reticulatus) (네트멜론의 착과절위 및 착과수가 네트발현, 품질 및 과중에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to determine the effect of fruit-set position and number of fruit set per plant on yield and quality including netting in "Super VIP" melon cultivated in spring season. 1) In training system of one fruit per plant, index of netting was acceptable, regardless of the node position of fruit-set. The higher node order of fruit set was, the heavier, longer, bigger in diameter the fruit set was, and the thicker the flesh was. However, soluble suger content and storability was decreased with increased node order. 2) In training system of two fruit per plant, the higher the fruit-set position in node order was, the better the netting index, fruit quality including fruit weight, length, diameter, and thickness of flesh were, but there was no difference in storability. 3) Fruits produced by one-fruit-per-plant training were superior to those produced by two-fruit-per-plant training in maker quality including netting, sugar content, stcrability. The fruit set on 12th node in one-fruit-per-plant training were the best in market quality. 4) Yield was increased by two-fruit-per-plant training.

Contents of Resveratrol in Different Parts of Various Grape Cultivars (포도의 품종 및 부위별 Resveratrol 함량의 차이)

  • The resveratrol contents in grapes showed a great variation according to the cultivars. In spite of it, a high resveratrol content in fruit was found generally in cultivars of Shigyoku, Pione, Muscat of Alexandria (black colored cultivars) and Muscatel Ruso, Gold Finger, Niunai (green colored cultivars). But in case included fruit stem and rachis, some cultivars, i.e. Shigyoku, Muscat of Alexandria and Baby Finger, showed relatively higher resveratrol content, and these cultivars could be advantageous for cultivation without chemical fungicide, because resveratrol was known as a phytoalexin. While resveratrol was not detected in fruit flesh, fruit stem and rachis contained considerably high content of resveratrol; that shows resveratrol may be synthesized in these parts.

Relationship between Meteorological Elements and Yield of Hot Pepper in Yeosu Area of Korea (여수지역 기상 조건이 고추의 수량에 미치는 영향)

  • 작물은 환경의 영향, 특히 기상조건과는 밀접한 관계가 있으며, 많은 학자들이 기상과 작물의 생육에 대한 연구결과를 보고하였다. (Kwon 등, 1989, 1993, 1994, cho등, 1979, 1984, Lee,등, 1982, Park등, 1975 ; Won등, 1983). 본 실험에서는 여수 지역의 고추수량과 기상과의 관계에 대한 기초 자료뿐만 아니라 1991년부터 2000년 까지의 기상 환경과 고추의 수량관계를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 월별 기상요인중 5월의 평균기온이 25.0%로 가장 높았고, 최고기온이 7.1%, 최저기온이 8.8%로 각각 높았으며, 8월의 평균기온이 6.6%, 최고기온이 6,2%, 최저기온이 6,9%로 각각 비교적으로 낮아서 변이가 적었다. 2. 생육 및 수량형질의 변이 계수에서 수량은 13.57%로 매우 높아 품종고유의 유전특성의 지배를 적게 받는 반면, 경장은 9.55%로 높아서 어느정도 환경요인에 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 3. 기상요인과 수량 및 수량구성형질 간에서는 5월의 최고기온과 초장, 과장, 과경, 수량간에는 정의상관으로 유의성이 높았으며, 고추의 개화수정기간인 8월의 강수량과 초장, 과장, 수량간에는 부의 상관으로 유의성이 나타나 초기생육기인 5월의 높은기온과 개화기간인 8월의 적은 강수량이 높은 수량을 올릴수 있었다. 4. 수량과 수량형질 간에는 모두 정의상관으로 높게 유의성을 나타내었었다.

Effect of Substrates and the Ratios of $NO_3^- to NH_4^+$ in Nutrient Solution on Growth and Yield of Sweet Pepper(Capsicum annuum L) in Bag-Culture (자루 재배용 배지의 종류와 $NO_3^-:NH_4^+$의 비율이 단고추의 생육 및 수량에 미치는 영향)

  • 단고추의 자루재배에 의한 양액재배시 $NO_3$$^{-}$$NH_4$$^{+}$의 비율을 8:2와 10:0으로 하였을 때, 배지 종류에 따른 생육, 수량 및 무기성분 흡수에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위하여 실험한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 배지의 무기성분 중 P 및 Mg는 버미큘라이트+왕겨에서, K는 펄라이트+버미큘라이트에서 높았다. 배지내 Ca의 농도가 가장 높았으며, 8:2보다 10:0에서 배지내 무기성분의 농도가 높았다. 2. $NO_3$$^{-}$ : $NH_4$$^{+}$ 비율에 따른 양액의 pH 및 EC는 모든 배지에서 작물재배에 적합한 범위를 유지하였으며, pH는 10:0에서 더 안정적이었고, EC는 8:2에서 높게 유지되었다. 3. 초장과 경경은 배지에 따른 생육차가 없었으며, 옆면적은 버미큘라이트+왕겨에서, 생체중, 건물중 등은 피트모스+훈탄에서 무거웠다. 생육은 $NH_4$$^{+}$를 첨가한 8:2의 모든 배지에서 10:0에 비하여 증가하였다. 4. 8:2에서의 과수 및 수량은 버미큘라이트+왕겨에서 17.53개와 1,5889으로 많았으며, 10:0에서의 과수는 버미큘라이트+왕겨에서 16.44개로, 수량은 필라이트+피트모스에서 1,394g으로 많았다. 8:2의 모든 배지에서 10:0에 비하여 과수, 수량, 평균과종, 과경, 과장 및 상품과율 등이 증가하였다. 5. 무기성분은 8:2와 10:0의 경우 $K^{+}$는 잎과 줄기에서, $Ca^{2+}$ 는 뿌리에서, $Mg^{2+}$ 는 잎에서 많았으며, $PO_4$$^{-}$ 는 과실과 줄기에서 많았다. 배지간에 따른 차이는 나타나지 않았으며, $K^{+}$, $Ca^{2+}$$Mg^{2+}$ 는10:0에서, $PO_4$$^{-}$ 는 8:2에서 각각 많았다.

Occurrence of Gray Mold Caused by Botrytis cinerea on Rubus crataegifolius in Korea (Botrytis cinerea에 의한 산딸기 잿빛곰팡이병의 발생)

  • The occurrence of gray mold on Rubus crataegifolius has recently been reported in Pohang, Gyeongbuk province, Korea. The initial symptom was the appearance of small brown spots on the leaves, and these lesions became later covered with a gray fungus as the disease progressed. A fungus was isolated from symptomatic leaves and incubated. Through morphological and phylogenetic analyses, the causal agent of the disease was identified to be Botrytis cinerea. The fungal isolate was then used to inoculate on the leaves of healthy plants to determine its pathogenicity as the causal agent of gray mold as per Koch's postulates. The inoculated leaves showed the same symptoms as the originally infected plant, and the fungal pathogen re-isolated from the lesions showed the same morphological characteristics as the original pathogen. This is the first report on the occurrence of gray mold on R. crataegifolius caused by B. cinerea in Korea.

Effect of Nutrient Solution Concentration on Growth, Yield and Fruit Quality of Fig Plant (Ficus carica L.) (배양액의 농도가 무화과(Ficus carica L.)의 생육, 수량 및 과실의 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment has investigated the effect of growth, yield and fruit quality of fig plant by different concentration of nutrient solution. Nutrient solution for pig plant were three concentrations of the balanced nutrient formula development by Japanese Horticultural Experiment Station. Plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter and number of fruit per plant were the best at 1/2 concentration. However, leaf length and leaf width did not show any difference in other treatment. Fruit length, fruit diameter and soluble solids did not differ from the different concentration of nutrient solutions. However, the fruit weight of fig plant was heavier by hydroponics than by soil culture in 2nd experiment. Early stage growth of fig plant was better at low concentration of nutrient solution and yield was better at high concentration. The result of this experiment will be utilized in the new application for fig plant hydroponics.

  • The experiment has investigated the effects of growth, yield, and fruit quality of strawberries by three different kinds of substrates. Commonly used media cocopeat, cocopeat mixed with rice hulls and compound nursery media were used to select a proper medium by comparing growth status, yield and fruit quality. Number of leaves was most in cocopeat substrate, and leaf length and leaf width were highest in compound nursery media. Fruit weight was heaviest in compound nursery media, but there were no significant statistical differences in fruit length, fruit width and soluble solids of fruit. Number of fruits per plant was much in compound nursery media and cocopeat than cocopeat mixed with rice hulls. The most yield per plant was in compound nursery media and the least it was in cocopeat mixed with rice hulls. The results of this experiment will be utilized in the new substrate application for strawberry hydroponics.

Effect of Number of Branches on the Growth and Yield of Sweet Pepper(Capsicum annuum L.) Grown in Long Term Bag -Culture (단고추의 장기 자루식 양액재배시 분지수가 생육 및 수량에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to clarify the effects of number of branches per pot on the growth and yield in long term bag-culture of sweet pepper. Two plants were grown in pot with four, six, and eight branches. The results are summarized as the followings : 1. Plant height, stem diameter, leaf dry weight, root dry weight, and stem dry weight did not significantly differ among treatments, while the number of leaves and leaf area were the greatest In the treatment with eight branches per pot. 2. Although fruit length was not influenced by the number of branches per pot, fruit diameter and fruit weight were greater with four branches per pot. The yield of the four branches was 124.5ton/ha, which was not significantly different from the yield of the eight branches, 113.4ton/ha. Considering the average fruit weight, fruit quality, and labor saving, four branches per pot appears to be appropriate. 3. Although the yield of eight branches per pot during the first five months was higher, however, four branches per pot should be recommended for the long term bag- culture of sweet pepper because the yield of the four branches from April, which is the middle stage of growth to the final harvest was higher than the yields of the others.

Morphology, Biology and Chemical Control of Tomato Russet mite, Aculops lycopersici Massee (Acari: Eriophyidae) in Korea (토마토녹응애의 형태, 생태 및 방제)

  • Tomato russet mite, Aculops lycopersici Massee (Acari. Eriophyidae) was recorded in Korea and their SEM observations, distribution, host range, development on different temperature, and chemical control method were studied. Tomato russet mite is a microscopic animal (134.9 $\mu\textrm{m}$) with 2 pairs of legs which had 4 rays of feathered craw. Infected leaf turn reddish brown, stem loss hair, become shiny or surface cross-cracked, and shoot wilted or shrunk. Surface of fruit around fruit stalk appeared rusted or cross-cracked. It was found in glass greenhouse at Buyeo and Yuseong in Chungnam Province, Pyeongchang in Gangwon Province, and Chilgok and Guryongpo in Gyeongbuk Province. Convolvulus, black nightshade, chinese lanternplant, eggp1ant, morning glory, petunia, potato, pepper, tobacco and tomato were confirmed as a host plant in inoculation test. It could develop at temperature around $15-30^{\circ}C$, it took 6-11 days from eggs to adult, higher temperature shorten its life cycle. Female lived longer than male and it lived as long as 12 days at 25-28"C. Among acaricides tested, fenazaquin and cypermethrin were most effective.tive.
