This study focused on coming up with designs to vitalize the shared space in the apartment, and to do that, Christopher Alexander's pattern language was applied to analyze the patterns found in the apartment shared space, find improvements and propose the design methods that reflect the unique characteristics of designs in Korea. The study is mainly based on literary review and field research. (1) The definition and composition of shared space and Christopher Alexander's pattern language are examined; (2) The field research is performed to analyze the patterns in the shared space of the apartments that have been planned recently in order to find the problems and elements that can be improved; and The above is reflected and proposed as a design method. The study will help rediscover the significance of space by proposing the methodology for shared space design, encouraging the use of shared space and contributing to the enhancement of community.
Modern public museums are expanding its role as general cultural facilities. Therefore, the museums that are equipped with convenient and physical environmental features for all ages and types of users are needed. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the application of universal design in common space of the museums and to recommend a set of environmental improvement plans based on which various types of users can decide their choice of museums based on available data on the museums. The scope of this research was limited to seven major public museums located in Seoul, Korea. The spatial scope that was set for this research was common space of the public museums and the scope of the content was about the applicability of universal design. As a result of the research, three major conclusions were reached. First, the application of universal design toward common space in the public museums currently was not prevalent. Second, constant management and application development of universal design are needed. Third, as museums' primary roles and functions become more diverse, a direct application of delicate universal design is a necessary prerequisite to accommodate and fulfill users' needs.

And these open space can be recognized mostly in the common space of housing architecture of living, dining, and kitchen space composition. In order to understand the characteristics of space and compositional method, the works of Le Corbusier, W. Grupius, and F.L. Wright in their living, dining, and kitchen space design have been analized from the collected materials to make evaluation for the similarities and significance of their space compositional factors. therefore, this study is to analize space composition and design factor of the modern housing space of Living, Dining, and kitchen space variation and character of open space design factor for the practical use as an index of designing contemporary living space.
Recently, the definition of work space contains so many meanings. Basically, this means space where handling various information and developing numerous creative activities. Moreover, the work space is important not only for individual itself but also organizational development. This research is studied for suggesting revitalization of advanced work efficiency, deriving motivation as well as creative operation support for harmonious communication. In order to make the better creative work places, "concentration and motivating interests between members of organization", "Necessity of environment for development and operational progress of work", "improvement and creativity of work and importance of the physical environment" and "harmonious communication and development of advanced community" should be considered. This research arranged based on ALCEMIS model and used actual examples on each step for better understanding of creative work spaces. ALCEMIS model is as follows: (1) Opportunity Finding (2) Fact Finding (3) Opportunity Definition (4) Idea Finding (5) Evaluate & Select (6) Plan (7) Acceptance (8)Execution' over the eight-step details to proceed through the 1. Discovert ((1)+(2)) 2. Dream ((3)+(4)) 3. Design((5)+(6)) 4. Destiny((7)+(8))y" It has been understood that many works related to creative jobs make good use of public spaces to progress operational improvement. The place where co-workers share with can create more effective and fulfilling outcome and satisfaction than independent and exclusive places. Especially creative jobs need this kind of spaces for better communication and cooperation.
The change towards meeting diverse customer needs has started to affect the hotel industry as well. Design hotels emerged as customers demanded differentiated lodging experiences they could not fulfill at franchise hotels which were uniform in style everywhere in the world. Design hotels are meant to provide a new concept of space through unique design sensibility and work of designers, which highlighted the role of interior design. This research analyzes the characteristics of indoor space expressed in design hotel common spaces by the French designer Andree Putman, also known as the founder of boutique hotels and the concept of design hotels. As the original founder of the concept of design hotels, Putman's scope of work stretches wide, from interior design to product design. She is also one of the few French designers with a modernist inclination. The research runs a review on previous literature, characteristics of design hotels according to design tendency, and the association with characteristics of indoor space designed by Andree Putman, followed by case analyses extracted by analyses on design characteristics of common spaces she has designed. The analysis reveals that she creates comfortable yet elegant space, using contrast and fusion arising from negotiation of design styles to interpret space, the sense of spatial balance and understated expression of order through symmetrical structures, diverse creation of space through geometric structuring, highlighting indoor space by utilizing lights as objects, and the heterogeneous harmony achieved by contrasting juxtaposition, and understated formativeness. It is expected that study results would be utilized as methods of new designs of interior space in design hotels.

Using this framework, held investigation and analysis were held in common area(shared living room, shared dining room, toilet) of 14 Korean, 8 Northern European, and 10 Japanese nursing home facilities. The result revealed that even though sign system should work as a combined unit, each factor was planed without relations to each other and did not perform mutually complementary role. Signage was installed too high, without considering the posture of elderly. Korean facilities used abundant and diverse signage compared to other countries. Japanese nursing home preferred cueing method over signage, and those of Northern Europe used plentiful visual cues such as color and ornaments.
This study aims to investigate planning characteristics of common and living space in the dormitory buildings on campus in Chungcheong province. A document research method was used to analyze and classified into floor-plan, zoning and area. Also site visits were conducted at 8 dormitory buildings of 4 universities, and drawings were collected and compared for this research. The typical floorplan of living space was 2person-1bedroom and apartment type which shared livingroom, bathroom, restroom and shower between bedrooms. The living space type of dormitory buildings was more complex and growth in size. Unit community combined 2-4person per 1bedroom in floor plan can help student with identity and affiliated formation. 2)The types of the spatial composition in public spaces were devided into three zones; study, living and administrative zones such as seminar room, public bathroom and storage, etc. This results shows that various types of public space for the improvement of community of small group has recently become more important than basic sanitary space in public space of dormitory buildings on campus.
As an aging society accelerates its pace for the present, providing a pleasant environment to nursing homes is such an environmental requirement with which elderly people could improve their quality of life and even acquire the effects of healing. As an optimal element of ensuring amenity, nature is a general hospital that heals human beings physically and mentally. In this vein, the investigator drew out the frame of analysis, namely emotional/healing/relating amenity, by means of theoretical examination of such natural elements as water, light, soil/stone, and plant. And on the basis of the drawn amenity, the investigator examined the application of natural elements to study subjects in order to analyze the ensured amenity. Study findings show that the existing nursing homes have ensured healing amenity sufficiently, but they are unsatisfactory in ensuring emotional and relating amenity. Based on interview survey, the investigator suggests that the introduction of natural elements into nursing homes such public space as mediation space, interaction space, and rest places to ensure emotional/healing/relating amenity must be ideally equipped with the formation of outdoor forest in which water, light, soil/stone, and plant get joined together, rather than Introducing a single element respectively. In addition, the plan of construction of nursing homes must take residing elderly people's emotional/healing/relating amenity into account on the basis of physical amenity.
