Thermal conditions in practice at the traditional bronze workshop of the Korean Folk Village in Yongin were examined along with the microstructures of some high tin bronze objects made there. Laboratory experiments approximating the conditions of the workshop were also carried out and the results were compared. The operating temperature of the workshop furnace was measured to range from $750^{\circ}C$ to $850^{\circ}C$ while the surface temperature of an object, upon its removal from the furnace for additional thermo-mechanical treatments, was generally in the range of $600^{\circ}C$ to $685^{\circ}C$. This variation in working temperatures was reflected in varying microstructures developed upon quenching. The products of the Folk Village were found to consist of microstructures where the ${\alpha}$ grains of the Cu-Sn system were distributed in the background of different phases including the ${\beta}$-martensite phase, retained ${\gamma}$ phase, ${\alpha}+{\delta}$ eutectoid or their mixtures. This variability, which is also identified in objects made in ancient times as well as in our laboratory experiments, suggests that the actual thermal conditions given during the quenching treatments are much more complicated than is inferred from the temperature measurements. This paper will present detailed accounts of the thermo-mechanical treatments as observed in the high tin bronze workshop of the Korean Folk Village and discuss the evolution of varying microstructures in terms of the substantial variability involved in the implementation of the traditional forged high tin bronze technology of Korea.
Objective of this research is to obtain fundamental data of carbonized wood wastes for soil condition, de-ordorization, absorption of water, carrier for microbial activity, and purifying agent for water quality of river. The carbonization technique and the properties of carbonized wood wastes(thinned trees) are analyzed. Proximate analysis shows the thinned wood contains 0.22-0.73% ash, 77-80% volatile matter, and 10-14% fixed carbon. The charcoal yield decreases and the shrinkage rate increases as the carbonization temperature and time increase. The charcoal yields of Larix leptolepis, Pinus rigida and Pinus densiflora are high, whereas those of Pinus koraiensis and Quercus variabilis are low. The shrinkage rate by carbonization has same trend as water removal of wood. The specific gravity after the carbonization decreases about 50% comparing to green wood. The charcoal has 0.89-4.08% ash, 6.31-13.79% volatile matter, and 73.9-83.5% fixed carbon. As the carbonization temperature and time increase, pH of charcoal increases. When the carbonization temperature is $400^{\circ}C$, pH is about 7.5. When the temperature is between 600 to $800^{\circ}C$, pH is about 10 with small difference. The water-retention capacity is not affected by the carbonization temperature and time. The water-retention capacity within 24hr is about 2.5 - 3times of sample weight, and the equivalent moisture content becomes 2-10% after 24 hr.
Fe thin films exhibited (100) preferential orientation when they were deposited at low deposition rate of $0.1{\AA}/s$ on glass substrates by using facing target sputtering system. The (100) oriented Fe layer induces (100) orientation of Pt layer deposited on it owing to hetero-epitaxial growth. After annealing at $600^{\circ}C$ in $H_2$ atmosphere, FePt films exhibited f.c.t. (001) texture in the whole film caused by inter-diffusion between atoms. We have also confirmed that the homogeneously inter-diffused compositional modulation in the film after the annealing process. Furthermore, annealing process in $Ar+H_2$ atmosphere at $400^{\circ}C$ during Pt deposition was effective for attaining Pt (100) texture. The annealing process during Pt deposition also induced in low annealing temperature and decreased annealing time for attaining the FePt f.c.t. (001) structure.
To fine seam annealer capacity of through thickness seam annealing in terms of through thickness microstructure change with increased toughness and elongation leaving heat trace on it, high strength steel pipes of ERW with different thickness were tested in different seam annealing temperature measured on the outer surface of pipes. Annealing temperature and microstructure of the weld seam were changed through applied seam annealing condition. Toughness and tensile test with hardness and microstructure analysis were done on the annealed weld seam to fine its characteristics as a primary step and annealing characteristics according to different seam annealing condition. Through a study of annealed ERW weld seam characteristics and seam annealing technology, amount of electric power should apply in decreased manner to arranged inductors of annealer in the order of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, so on for proper seam annealing. For example of 15.4mm thick and 610mm outside diameter pipe, applied power for proper seam annealing is 600 -650kw at 1st inductor, 450 - 500kw at 2nd inductor, 200-250 kw at 3rd inductor of annealer during 10 - 12M/minute moving speed of pipe. Also, the penetration depth of heat trace along the thickness direction of weld during seam annealing can be estimated through the equation 17mm/kv$\times$voltage(kv) with the microstructure and hardness analysis of thick weld seam as well as study of seam annealing and comparison of cooling condition to CCT diagram of low carbon high strength steel. From this result, the difference between the technological applicability of full annealing condition based on phase diagram and full penetration of heat trace based on CCT diagram along the thickness of weld seam is discussed.
The thin plate of Co-Ni-P was deposited on the polyester film by the electroless plating method. Through present experiments, deposition rates and metal compositions of the plates were determined according to compositions of solution, pH and temperature. Also, magnetic properties of plates were examined according to metal compositions. Considering magnetic properties and deposition rates of electroless plating, the best condition was obtained as pH of 8.5 and 90℃. It was observed that metal compositions were evidently varied by the pH of solutions and the concentration of complex agents. However. they were not affected by other factors. At the optimum condition, the composition of the plate was Co(78%), Ni(16%), and P(6%). Also, it was found that the coercive force was 370 Oe, and squareness was 0.65 at this condition. Magnetic properties (hard or soft) of thin plates were determined by metal compositions. Therefore. the plate became soft magnetic plate as the composition of nickel increased over 30 per cents. The crystal structure of the soft magnetic plate was found to be amorphous in which it was strongly oriented to the (111)phahe of nickel. On the ohter hand, the hard magnetic place was found to be hcp crystalline of α-cobalt which was oriented to the (101)phase of cobalt and the (100)phase of cobalt.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the soil $CO_2$ efflux and micro-climate of a preserved forest area located in a Mt. bulam urban nature park Quercus acutissima stand from June 2013 to May 2014. The research showed that the soil and heterotrophic $CO_2$ efflux were $28.14{\pm}7.99$ to $582.47{\pm}318.51$ and $12.32{\pm}8.04$ to $415.71{\pm}159.92mg\;CO_2{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}h^{-1}$, respectively. In addition the seasonal soil $CO_2$ efflux of summer, autumn, winter, spring were 1169.1, 454.81, 72.08 and $494.23g\;CO_2{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}month^{-1}$, respectively. On the other hand, the seasonal heterotrophic $CO_2$ efflux were 526.20, 340.09, 45.13 and $374.9g\;CO_2{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}month^{-1}$, respectively. Moreover, the annual soil and heterotrophic $CO_2$ efflux was found to be 2190.22 and $1286.33g\;CO_2{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}yr^{-1}$, respectively. The exponential function was also utilized for the regression analysis in order to correlate the environmental factors with the soil and heterotrophic $CO_2$ efflux. It was found out that both air and soil temperatures were positively correlated with the soil and heterotrophic $CO_2$ efflux. However, the amount of solar radiation and soil moisture has showed low correlation for both types of $CO_2$ efflux. Contribution of root $CO_2$ efflux to total soil $CO_2$ efflux in this Quercus acutissima stand was 33.60%.
Objective of research is obtain fundamental data of carbonized wood wastes for soil condition, de-ordorization, absorption of water, carrier for microbial activity, and purifying agent for water quality of river. The carbonization technique and the properties of carbonized wood wastes(wood-based materials) were analyzed. Proximate analysis showed the wood-based materials contains 0.37~2.27% ash, 70~74% volatile matter, and 17~20% fixed carbon. As carbonization temperature was increased, the charcoal yield was decreased. However, no difference in charcoal yield was found due to time increase. The specific gravity after the carbonization decreased about 30~40% comparing to green wood. The charcoal had 1.08~4.18% ash, 5.88~13.79% volatile matter, and 80.15~90.94% fixed carbon. The pH of plywood and particleboard(pH 9 at $400^{\circ}C$, pH 10 at $600^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$) made charcoals was higher than that of fiberboard. The water-retention capacity was not affected by the carbonization temperature and time. The water-retention capacity within 24h was about 2~2.5 times of sample weight, and the Equilibrium moisture content(EMC) became 2~10% after 24h. EMC of charcoal from the thinned trees were 9.40~11.82%($20^{\circ}C$, RH 90%), 6.87~7.61%($20^{\circ}C$, RH 65%), and 1.69~2.81%($20^{\circ}C$, RH 25%). EMC of charcoal from the wood-based materials under $20^{\circ}C$, relative humidity(RH) 90% was similar to EMC of charcoal from the thinned trees(9~11 %). However, under $20^{\circ}C$, RH 25.65%, EMC of charcoal from the wood-based materials were higher(2~3%) than EMC of charcoal from the thinned trees. Every charcoal from the wood-based materials fulfilled the criteria in JWWA K 113-1947.
