  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the present stage of community archives movement in the UK. By doing so, it draws some implications of the UK case for the community archives movement in Korea. The UK's 'Independent' community archives as a part of grassroots movement are characterized by participation, autonomy, and self-help of community members. Along with the appearance of the concept of 'community', the UK has experienced the revitalization period of community archives in the social context of community-based urban regeneration project. Recently, the UK's community archives have transformed themselves into building a 'governance model' relying on the partnership with mainstream archives. In particular, the UK model of community archives is based 'on their own ways' with their autonomy as a product of intrinsic development initiated by communities themselves. The character of the model of this type is very analogous to the nature of maul' community archives movement in Korea. Since the early 2000s, however, the UK model of community archives has been evolving into a way of building governance through their appropriation of the skills and methodologies from mainstream archives without endangering the autonomous essences of community archives themselves. We need to note the point of local researchers' view in archival science who have tried to seek out the methodology for building maul community archives with regard to openness and collaboration. In this respect, a shift in archival principle in the UK would give significant implications in regenerating the locally based community model.

  • This study aims to understand characteristics and roles of community media in Seoul to discuss the meanings of the media. Community media is constructed based upon the networks of relations of community participants, whose characteristic relations of participants within the network determines the roles and meanings of the media for the community. Research have shown that community media's unique open, participatory, and horizontal communicative structures enable to realize such objects. For this study, we chose Mapo FM to conduct case study based upon network analysis of 'participant network' of the media. In particular, we tried to measure the density and centrality of the network, which can explain the relational characteristics of the networks of the media. In addition, we also conducted in-depth interviews of participants to better understand the problems and meanings of the community media. The findings suggest that unlike the conceptual and theoretical assumptions, the community media under the study lacks of open, participatory, and horizontal ways of participation in the media.

  • Drawn upon the analysis of Seoul community media, this study make six points. The generation of community is not essentially determined but has singularity and differences. Historical context, social conditionality, cultural orientation, and the subjects' will and anticipation bring out certain forms of community. Various power relations and desires are engaged in the formation of community. The process of the construction of community is necessarily and simultaneously mediated with collective acts of communication and sharing. Community is not so much cultivated within society as articulated with precariousness, negativity and limit. Community is able to create its own cultural sensibility and language to express it. Thereby community is a dynamics between articulation and disarticulation, convergency and divergency, similitude and difference living in our actual society.

But the less participation of members is, the less flow to learning is, and the less learning time is, the lower a continuous participation is. Third, among team metacognition factors that affect a continuous participation in learning community, the more number of learning is, the higher continuous participation is. But the more use of various learning tools is and the more learning time is, the lower continuous participation is. Based on these results, the convergent ways of support for continuous participation in the university learning community are as follows. First, supporting system is needed to induce students to experience the positive atmosphere of learning community by increasing number of learning to facilitate team interaction and urging them to encourage one another. • This study attempted to examine the relationship between college students' participation in the learning community according to the characteristics of learners. To this end, the learning community divided the subject-linked learning community into a foundation learning community and an advanced learning community. Learner characteristics were classified by gender, grade, and major. A cross-analysis was conducted to examine the difference between participation in the foundation learning community and the advanced learning community according to the learner characteristics. The results are as follows. First, the participation of female students in the foundation learning community and the advanced learning community was higher than that of male students, but it was not statistically significant. Second, it was found that there was a significant difference in participation in the learning community according to the grade. In the case of the foundation learning community, the participation rate of the first and second year students was relatively high, and in the case of the advanced learning community, the ratio of the third and fourth year students was relatively high. Third, as a result of examining the differences by major, it was found that the participation rate of health and welfare universities was high in both the foundation learning community and the advanced learning community. Based on these results, discussions and suggestions are presented.
