  • Li-ion battery system is regarded as one of the most potent power sources for electrified power-trains. For the Li-ion battery system to be widely adopted in automotive applications, the performance, safety, and cycle life issues need to be properly addressed. These issues are closely related to the thermal management of battery system. Especially, the effective cooling module design is the core part for the novel battery thermal management system development. In this paper, an experimental approach was carried out as a basic part of comprehensive battery thermal management research. The main goal of this paper is to present a comparison of two cooling systems (air cooling and phase change material (PCM) based cooling) of the unit 18650 battery module. The temperature rise with different battery discharge rate (c-rate) was mainly investigated and analyzed for two types of battery cooling systems. It is expected that this study can properly contribute to providing basic insights into the design of robust battery thermal management system for vehicular applications.

Off-design Characteristics for Ambient Air Temperature and Turbine Load of Gas Turbine Pre-swirl System (가스터빈 프리스월 시스템의 외기 온도와 터빈 부하 조건에 따른 탈설계점 특성 분석)

  • The pre-swirl system is the device that minimizes energy loss of turbine cooling airflow from the stationary parts into rotating parts. In this paper, an off-design analysis was conducted for the ambient air temperature and turbine load conditions. The discharge coefficient was constant for ambient air temperature and turbine load. However, adiabatic effectiveness was increased. This is due to the volume flow rate. The volume flow rate was increased at higher ambient temperature and higher turbine load. It means that the volume of cooling air was increased and the cooling performance of the air was improved. Consequently, adiabatic effectiveness increased by 30.46% at 100% turbine load compared to 20% turbine load. And increased by 18.42% at 55℃ ambient air temperature compared to -20℃ ambient air temperature.

Study on Performance Prediction and Energy Saving of Indirect Evaporative Cooling System (간접식 증발냉각장치의 성능예측과 에너지절약에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to predict the performance of an indirect evaporative cooling system, and to evaluate its energy saving effect when applied to the exhaust heat recovery system of an air-handling unit. We derive the performance correlation of the indirect evaporative cooling system using a plastic heat exchanger based on experimental data obtained in various conditions. We predict the variations in the performance of the system for various return and outdoor air conditioning systems using the obtained correlation. We also analyze the energy saving of the system realized by the exhaust heat recovery using the typical meteorological data for several cities in Korea. The average utilization rate of the sensible cooling system for the exhaust heat recovery is 44.3% during summer, while that of the evaporative cooling system is 96.7%. The energy saving of the evaporative cooling system is much higher compared to the sensible cooling system, and was about 3.89 times the value obtained in Seoul.

  • In recent years, the amount of heat generated inside of the computer has more increased because of high performance, multi-function, miniaturization and light weight. It is necessary to control the effective heat generation to improve performance and life extension of the computer. In this study, thermoelectric cooling system was manufactured using thermoelectric module and was attached to computer in order to control the heat generated inside computer. And the temperature distributions inside computer were experimentally measured and compared with and without thermoelectric cooling system to investigate the effect of cooling system. Also, to estimate the new cooling system which can substitute for the existing computer cooling system, temperature distributions inside computer were calculated by numerical analysis when there was no cooling system and was applied only cooling system to computer.

  • In this study, a flow analysis is carried out on the wing shape of cooling fan at automobile. By designing three kinds of Canival, Teracan and basic models with CATIA program, this analysis is done on the configuration of cooling fan with the same flow condition. It can be seen that the contour of flow velocity is changed due to the model of wing and the pressure distribution of fluid is changed due to the configuration or the area of wing. In case of cooling model of Teracan among three models, there is the most air flow and it can be thought to be most effective to cool the radiator. And it is possible to be grafted onto the convergence technique at design and show the esthetic sense.

  • Performance of the water/air direct contact air conditioning system, in which heat and mass are directly transferred between air and water droplet, is simulated using semi-empirical method. Direct contact system improves transport efficiency compared to conventional indirect contact system. In this study, correlations for h$_{c}$A / c$_{pm}$ which represent the capacity of direct contact system are derived as a function of air and water flowrate from the experimental data. Cooling and heating performance of the water/air direct contact air conditioning system are evaluated using these correlations.ons.

엔진 오일의 공기 혼입과 윤활 특성

  • 여러 가지 필수적인 윤활유 성상과 함께 요즘 개발된 엔진에서 요구되는 중요한 특성 중 하나가 윤활유 내의 공기 혼입(aeration) 문제이다. 만일 윤활유 내에 공기가 일정 한도 이상 혼입되면 윤활유가 수행하는 일반 기능 중 하중을 분산시키는 압력 분산 작용과 윤활 작용 및 마찰열을 식혀 주는 냉각 작용이 제대로 되지 않아 엔진 수명과 내구성에 심각한 문제를 초래한다. 특히 현재 밸브 소음 저감 및 정비성 향상을 위해 대부분의 엔진에서 채용하고 있는 hydraulic valve lash adjuster(HLA)에 미치는 영향이 가장 심각하다. HLA는 그 작동 특성이 엔진 오일의 비 압축성을 이용하고 있기 때문에 만일 HLA 내부의 고압실에 공기가 오일에 섞여 들어간다변 밸브 시스템 강성이 떨어지게 되어 오히려 HLA 사용 목적에 반해 밸크 이상 거동에 의한 소음이 유발될 뿐만 아니라 심하면 밸브가 파단되는 심각한 현상이 초래되기도 한다. 상기한 바와 같이 aeration 현상은 경우에 따라 매우 심각한 문제를 유발하기도 하며 엔진이 고속 고출력화 하면서 그 특성은 더욱 관심사가 되어 왔다. 따라서 엔진 각 부분의 올바른 기능과 신뢰성 확보를 위해 aeration의 특징 발생 원인 및 대책을 살펴보고 특히 oil aeration이 HLA와 엔진 베어링에 미치는 영향에 대해 분석 고찰해 봄으로써 그 특성을 이해하고자 한다.

  • 원자력발전소에서 원자로 냉각재 중의 용존산소 제어는 원자로 냉각재 계통에서의 전면 부식과 다양한 형태의 응력부식균열(SCC)를 완화시키는데 기여한다. 원자로 냉각재 계통내에 용존 되어있는 산소는 발전소 기동 시에는 하이드라진($N_2H_4$)을 넣거나 인위적 배기를 통해 제거하고, 정상운전 중에는 체적제어탱크(VCT)에 수소를 가압하여 제거시킨다. 계통내로 유입되는 용존산소를 최대한 억제하기 위하여 대부분의 원자력발전소는 원자로 보충수 탱크 상층부에 질소를 주입하여 탱크로 유입되는 공기를 차단하고 있으나, 이 과정에서 일부 수중에 용해되어 들어가는 질소는 계통 내에서 NH$_3$를 형성하여 화학체적제어계통(CVCS)의 이온교환 수지탑에 치환됨으로서 기포화 되어있는 Li을 계통으로 빠져나오게 하여 계통 pH에 영향을 미친다.(중략)

  • An analysis method to predict performance of a vehicle cooling system which is composed of radiator, A/C condenser, cooling fan, and etc. is suggested. Air flow through the heat exchanger system and heat rejection rate which dominate the cooling performance are analyzed. Heat transfer with A/C refrigerant phase change is also considered in the analysis. Some predicted results are compared with experimental data for various operating conditions. This evaluation procedure will be useful for the design of optimal vehicle cooling system.

  • 3MW 풍력발전기용 발전기의 구조적 특성을 소개하고 회전자의 동특성 해석을 수행하였다. 이 발전기는 증속기를 사용하였으며 정격속도는 1459 rpm 이며 30% over speed trip 조건을 적용하여 설계되었다. 회전자 pole에 전원 공급 없이 자기장을 만드는 영구자석을 사용하는 형태로 구조는 간단하다. 발전기의 냉각방법은 공극을 냉각하기 위하여 팬을 이용하여 공기를 순환하며 고정자 외형에는 냉각채널을 부착하여 냉각수를 순환한다. 회전기계의 설계 시에는 반드시 진동을 고려하여 가능하면 진동을 줄이는 방향으로 설계가 되어야 하며 회전축 계의 설계에 있어서는 계의 강도, 위험속도, 불평형 진동응답 및 안정성 등을 고려하여야 한다. 본 논문에서는 물리설계를 기본으로 하여 설계된 발전기의 형상을 간단하게 설명하고, 발전기의 회전자를 상용 유한요소 해석 프로그램인 ANSYS 를 이용하여 해석을 수행하였다. 해석절차는 정적해석을 수행하고 다음으로 모드해석을 수행 하였다. 모드형상에 따른 주파수를 표기하고 해석 결과를 나타내었다.
