Time-Dependent Modeling of Performance Degradation for PEMFC Single Cell System to Evaluate the Cell Performance and Durability: Effects of CO Poisoning (고분자전해질 연료전지의 성능과 안정성 시험을 위한 단위전지의 시간 경과에 따른 모델링: 일산화탄소 피독현상에 의한 효과)

  • There have been great attentions on polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) due to their advantageous characteristics such as zero emission of hazardous pollutant and high energy density. In this work, we evaluated degradation phenomena and stability of single cell performance via one dimensional single cell modeling. Here, CO poisoning on anode on anode was considered for cell performance degradation. Modeling results showed that the performance and stability were highly degraded with CO concentration in fuel gas. In addition, cell performance was reduced by slow oxygen reduction on cathode in long term operation. In order to overcome, it is required to increase ratio o#hydrogen in the fuel gas of anode and high Pt loading contained in the cathodic catalyst layer.

Visualization of Water Distribution in Cathode Side of a Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Using Neutron Radiography (중성자 라디오그래피 방법을 이용한 직접 메탄올 연료전지 공기극의 내부 물 분포 가시화)

  • In this study, the water distribution in the cathode side of a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) is visualized using a neutron imaging technique at the Neutron Radiography Facility (NRF), KAERI. It is difficult to quantify the water content in the cathode side because of $CO_2$ gas. A compared open circuit voltage (OCV) image, relative $CO_2$, and water distribution can be visualized by the neutron imaging technique. This means that the neutron imaging technique is useful for the optimization of the flow field design and the establishment of water management, and, in turn, for the improvement of the cell performance.

  • Carbon-supported manganese oxide composite were fabricated as an air cathode material for Li-air batteries by hydrothermal method. The composite materials of carbon and manganese oxide were investigated by the implementation of X-ray diffraction, FE-SEM and BET surface area measurer. The manganese oxide synthesized at $170^{\circ}C$ for 12 h has a rod like shape morphology with 40-50 nm long in size. A Lithium-air battery with coin type, of which electrodes are composed of cathode composite materials synthesized $170^{\circ}C$-12 h and lithium metal anode, reveals its first discharge capacity of 3,852 mAh/g and four discharge-charge cycles.

고체산화물 연료전지용 연결재의 소결 조재 첨가에 따른 저온에서의 특성분석

  • 고체산화물 연료전지의 연결재의 필요한 물성으로는 공기극과 연료극을 차폐시켜줄 수 있는 고밀도와 구성 소재간의 전기적으로 연결될 수 있는 전기전도도 산화극과 환원극에서 화학적 안정성과 타 구성 소재와의 열팽창 계수 등이 중요한 특성으로 필요하게 된다. 이를 위해 $LaCrO_3$계 연결재가 주로 사용되어 왔다. 그러나 LCO계 연결제는 $1,400^{\circ}C$이상의 높은 소결 온도와 이로 인한 Cr의 휘발로 인한 타 구성소재와의 반응 등으로 인해 저온소결의 필요성이 재기되고 있는 소재 이다. 본 연구에서는 LCCCO계 구성 소제에 LaF3, 소결 소제를 첨가하여 저온에서 결정성 및 소결거동, 전기적 특성을 평가하였다.
