  • This study is conducted to improve the quality of healthcare services responding to COVID-19 by applying the public service quality management framework that is developed from ISO18091:2019 by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety of South Korea. The COVID-19 pandemic has been impacting the world since early 2020, and now in November 2020, it still has not been eliminated. The Korean medical institutions were able to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by agile test and strict cohort isolation. As a result, the so-called K-medical defense has achieved a positive reputation from around the world. In this study, we check and evaluate the current status of the COVID-19 response targeting some Korean hospitals by applying a quality control checklist based on the public service quality management framework. Status of 7 categories are analyzed based on the interview with 3 medical institutions. We also suggest improvements for better medical service quality in case of COVID-19 being prolonged.

The average level of knowledge of standard precautions was 21.98/25 points, the average safety environment was 5.68/7 points, and the average performance was 40.28/60 points. There was a significant positive correlation between the safety environment of standard precautions and the performance of standard precautions (r=.21, p<0.01). The affecting factor on the performance of standard precautions was found to be the safety environment of standard precautions(𝛽=.22, p=.003). Therefore, to improve the performance of standard precautions for nurses' infection control in public medical institutions, Different and persistent infection management educational programs that consider the Historical situation and monitoring are required other than providing financial support and supportive safety environment.

  • The aim of this study was to provide the basic data for the betterment of public medical services. A questionnaire survey on the quality of the services and the intention of revisiting the hospital was administered to 330 patients in a public hospital located in Seoul. The mean satisfaction of hospital medical services was 4.11, whereas that of the revisiting intention was 3.94. The relationship between the satisfaction of medical services and the intention of revisiting was significant (t=11.335, p<.001). The intention of revisiting increased with increasing satisfaction of medical services of a hospital. Therefore, to enhance satisfaction, a hospital should identify the needs of people looking for a public hospital, increase rapport with the neighboring communities, and provide public amenities.
