This study examined DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) and how it measures the efficiency of library units. DEA is a useful nonparametric method to evaluate the relative efficiency of a set of decision making units(DMUs) with multiple inputs and outputs. This study evaluated 102 different public libraries utilizing 4 inputs and 4 outputs focussing on the year 2005. For inefficient libraries, the study analysed the potential improvement and the source of inefficiency comparing the peer groups. The result of this study shows that efficiency of public libraries varies in different localities and forms of operation.

The review journal is becoming important to select appropriate resources as the increase of publication of children's materials. The study aims to suggest the focal points and basic frameworks of review journals of children's materials to be used as select tools. The study employs case studies. Four foreign review journals and a Korean library journal are analyzed. The study found nine guidelines for basic framework to develop review journals of children's materials.

This study evaluated the fiction collection of Korean public libraries by applying use factor and suggested various measures to enhance collection development function. As a result, while the collection building and borrowing ratios of Korean literature in literature collection by language were the highest at 62.6% and 54.3% respectively, the use factor was lower than the base value(1.00). And while the collection building and borrowing ratios of Korean contemporary fiction by item category were the highest at 65.60% and 51.36% respectively, the use factor was lower than the base value and the use factor by year is decreasing in recent years. The reason is because of poor collection development. Therefore, public library need to consider active alternatives such as establishment of the collection development policy and fiction collection development guideline, composition of the fiction material selection committee, adaption of the dedicated librarian system for fiction material development, development and utilization of a selection tool for fiction materials, and periodic evaluation of fiction collection.

The two urban-area public libraries and two rural ones that are located in the Gyungsangnam-do province were selected for this paper, and the circulation records in 2007 were collected, and both MS-excel and SPSS were used for their analysis. The collected data were categorized into their collection type, circulation frequencies, and subjects. Also the four libraries were compared and analyzed again for the purpose of comparing the characteristics of the public libraries in urban and rural areas. The number of circulated books, lent number, use factor, and the number of publication lapse year were extracted and analyzed using various types of statistical methods such as correlation coefficient and nonparametric chi-square analysis, etc. as well as descriptive ones.

The purpose of this study is to activate the videorecordings in public libraries. The method of activation is to analysis of data which collected through questionnaire from respondent libraries. The results of the study are as follows : 1. The budget of videorecordings is absolutely short. 2 The acquisition policy of videorecordings is not planned because of short budget and little standard selection tool. 3. Most of public libraries wanted to exchange and use of videorecordings through interlibrary loan. 4. The subject of collected videorecordings was almost oriented to the education and motion pictures. 5. Specialized collection policy of public libraries in Pusan is not considered in videorecordings selection. 6. 87 percent of public libraries are not circulate videorecordings to the end-user. 7. Group watching planning of videorecordings in public libraries was done by monthly. 8. 70 percent of public libraries was not perform user reaction survey after watching. 9. 13 percent of public libraries has done the video tape recording of TV programming. 10. Most of public libraries had not a video to introduce themselves and user also had not a plan to create a video. 11. Most of public libraries recognized the copyright law but they wanted to reproduct the videorecordings for user with permission of authors.

Public library accessibility directly affects library usage, and the disproportionate distribution of accessibility is a decisive factor limiting the equitable provision of library services. In this regard, this study analyzed the spatial accessibility of public libraries in Busan and identified the factors affecting accessibility of public libraries using spatial regression analysis. As a results of the analysis, the accessibility of public libraries in the Busan showed large deviations by region. Also, spatial distribution of public libraries had no correlation with the settled population and use of public transportation, and location of public libraries was inefficient, in terms of social equity. The results of this study will assist to understand the spatial accessibility of public libraries in Busan, to identify factors that affect the accessibility. Moreover, this study is expected to be utilized as fundamental data for releasing disparities of the spatial accessibility and selecting new location of public library in Busan.

Recognizing user services as one of the most important and essential part in the public library, this study focuses on seeking for innovative ideas for the improvement of user services. Data analyses is based on the written survey submitted by public libraries throughout the nation. Questions related with user services are analyzed. and some influential factors in relation with the selection of superior libraries are compared with those of public libraries as a whole. Active library services for the users are revealed as the most important factor to be included in superior library group.

This study aims to improve bibliographic data of public libraries by linking service data, which are produced out of library service programs. Service data collected from the seven award-winning public libraries were selected and analyzed. A Bibliographic Framework is used for linking bibliographic data and service data. Interfaces are also suggested for the two-way data linking. The results can be used to obtain 1) selective and value-added bibliographic data, 2) bibliographic data updated continuously throughout the lifecycle, 3) structured service data for preservation and sharing, and 4) bibliographic data linked to the additional external linked data.

Characteristics of Japanese public library recently has been changed to mutual networking between libraries, complex use of data, and long stay of users. Such change requires new service and contents. Also, in Korea, it is circumstance that interest of library's contents rise politically. And under government leading by BTL project, various libraries are increasing all over the country fast such as public library, extension of existing school library and the small library, etc. In this research, space composition of library, automatic check-out & bookshelf system, and mutual networking between libraries was analyzed by selected 3 libraries (central library of Chiba city, Tomisato and Ichigawa city library) of Chiba area and find applicable contents to our library system.

The purpose of the study is to suggest a conceptual framework for the vacation reading programs in promoting children's love of reading in public libraries. Within the conceptual framework of free voluntary reading (FVR), the study identified the concept of reading that public libraries should pursue in developing children's reading programs and analyzed current vacation reading programs that four public libraries in Seoul held during winter and summer vacations of 2013. More specifically, the study analyzed (1) their purposes, (2) durations, targeted children groups, the number of children users, (3) their instructors, (4) the content design of the programs, (5) selected books, and (6) completion certificates and rewards for participation. Lastly, the study discussed whether the programs satisfied the characteristics for promoting free voluntary reading and played the roles for vacation reading programs in public libraries. The results of the study suggest the need for shifting the current vacation reading programs to be more inclusive, so that more children can develop to learn love of reading.
