This study structurally analyzes the relations between children's pet attachment, empathy ability, and prosociality. The results are used to investigate the relations between pet attachment and empathy ability, which have recently emerged as important variables that affect children's prosociality. Data were collected about pet attachment, empathy ability, and prosociality from 209 elementary students in Daejeon who had experience with raising pets. SPSS 22.0 software was used for descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, and reliability analysis, and AMOS 22.0 was used for confirmatory factor analysis and to examine the structural equation model. According to the analyses, children's pet attachment did not affect their prosociality but did influence their empathy ability. Children's empathy ability affected their prosociality and had a mediating effect on the relation between their pet attachment and prosociality. The results indicate that children's pet attachment and empathy ability are essential factors that influence prosociality. To improve prosociality, efforts should be made increase pet attachment and empathy ability. The study results can be used as a theoretical and practical fundamental basis for plans to improve children's pet attachment, empathy ability, and prosociality.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship among empathy ability, gratitude tendency, helping behavior, and happiness of college students and whether gratitude tendency and help behaviors are mediators in the relationship between empathy ability and happiness. For this purpose, Date were collected from 559 college students in S and K city. The SPSS 20.0 program was used to analyze the statistical data such as the mean and standard deviation of the data. To analyze the validity of the study, it conducted confirmatory factor analysis using AMOS. Finally, we analyzed the effect of empathy on happiness by using the bootstrap procedure in order to investigate the mediating effects of gratitude tendency and helping behavior. The results of the study are as follows. First, the correlation of each was positive. Second, in the relationship between empathy ability and happiness, the gratitude tendency was a statistically significant mediator. Third, helping behavior was a statistically significant mediator between empathy and happiness. Fourth, in the relationship between empathy ability and happiness, it did not do dual mediate to the gratitude tendency and help behavior. The implications and limitations of this study are discussed.

The purpose of this study was to establish an intervention strategy for nursing students' empathic ability enhancement by confirming the degree of empathy ability of nursing students to confirm the relationship between empathy ability and diversity acceptance, emotion recognition clarity, and other person' s recognition. The subjects were 173 nursing students. Data were collected as a self-report questionnaire consisting of general characteristics, diversity acceptability, emotional clarity, other-awareness, and empathy. We carried out t-test, ANOVA, Scheff's test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using IBM SPSS Statistics 19. The results show that there was a significant difference in empathy ability according to the general characteristics of the subjects according to academic year and practice experience, and empathy was statistically significant according to academic year, diversity acceptability, emotional clarity, and other-awareness. Factors influencing empathy ability of nursing students were academic year, diversity acceptability, emotional clarity and other-awareness, and these variables explained empathy ability as 51.9%. In order to improve empathy ability of nursing students based on these results, we should adopt a nursing education program that can accept subjects with various backgrounds and clearly recognize emotions in a therapeutic setting.

The purpose of this study is to develop the Empathy Education Program by employing the brain-based education principle in home economics education. For this purpose, the study used the "ADDE" (Analysis, Design, Development, and Evaluation) method to develope a Empathy Education Program for middle-school students. Analysis from previous literature derived that four principles of brain-based empathy education in home economics education: 1) understanding through imitation; 2) inference through imagination; 3) interaction through experience, and 4) internalization through practice. Based on these brain-based four principles and three components of empathy, a total of 15 lessons were designed and developed for the educational program for middle-school students, "FEEL" (For Empathy Education & Learning). The contents of this program were selected from the analysis of the 2015-revised technology and home economics education curriculum and textbooks. Results from expert evaluation of the validity and feasibility of the program showed that this program is highly valid with an average validity score of 4.88 and 0.98 for the validity index ("CVI"). This study is meaningful in that it can be effectively employed in the middle school free-year policy system. Also, this study contributes to shedding light on the possibility of combining empathy education with home economics education by presenting newly presented elements of empathy and brain-based education principles in home economics education.
Aggressive behavior triggered by the tendency to become angry is generating various social problems. To combat these various social issues, it is important to recognize the role that empathy plays in preventing those with trait-anger from becoming aggressive. More specifically, the hypothesis that empathic concern and perspective taking would mitigate the association between trait-anger and aggression was examined through this study. 329 college students participated in a survey containing questions related to trait-anger, aggression, empathic concern and perspective taking. The results showed that empathic concern moderated the association between trait-anger and aggression, whereas perspective taking did not. That is, those who are emotionally empathetic do not act aggressively easily even if their trait-anger is high; while those who are cognitively empathetic struggle to reduce the likelihood of their trait-anger leading to aggressive behavior. The result of this study indicates that emotional empathy was more useful than cognitive empathy in preventing those with trait-anger leading to aggressive behaviors. The implications, limitations and future directions of this study were also considered and presented as well.
This study examined the role and relationship among cognitive response(attractiveness, familiarity, actual self-congruence, ideal self-congruence and sympathy) factors, emotional response(empathy, flow, affection) factors, identification mediating between cognitive and emotional response, and interactivity. Hypotheses based on literature reviews were analyzed and according to the results, all of hypotheses except two hypotheses were supported. Firstly, the results revealed that except characteristic attractiveness and actual self-congruence, story attractiveness, characteristic familiarity, story familiarity, and ideal self-congruence influenced on sympathy positively. Secondly, this study examined the role and relationship between identification mediating between cognitive and emotional response and interactivity. As a result, identification and interactivity mediated with sympathy and empathy had positive effects. Finally, in respect of emotional responses empathy, flow, and affection had positive effects.
The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between empathy, communicative competence, and cultural competence among nursing students and investigate the factors influencing cultural competence. The subjects of the study consisted of 173 nursing students. Data were analyzed based on Pearson's correlations, and multiple regressions using the SPSS 18.0 program. The mean value of cultural competence was 3.44, showing significant positive correlations with empathy(r=.450, p<.001) and communicative competence(r=.579, p<.001) in nursing students. Empathy, communicative competence and foreign language skill accounted for 37.1% of the total variance in cultural competence among nursing students. Overall cultural competence can be improved by empathy, communicative competence enhancement program.
This study was intended to examine the academic role of social welfare by analysis the trends of empathic research in the field of social welfare studies in Korea, and to explore the direction and tasks to move forward. For this purpose, technical analysis and language network analysis were performed based on the category system and the frequency of simultaneous language presentation by selecting academic papers related to empathy in the field of social welfare studies in Korea from 2000 to June 2020. According to the analysis, the number of empathic studies in the social welfare field has increased steadily since 2000, and the number of studies in the last three years has increased significantly, and the research field has been mainly in the "social welfare general" category. In terms of research, the most common research was related to empathy and the relationship between other variables, while quantitative research was the most important method used in the research. As empathic-related research increase in social welfare studies, such research results require efforts such as expansion of research field and research contents and attempts of various research methods.
