  • This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of the forest experience center for children led by the local community as experiential management for forest kindergarten education. For this, an importance and performance analysis was conducted on the forest experience center for children in Geumcheon-gu, which, of the 12 forest experience center for kids in Seoul, is the only one led by the local community. The questionnaire sheet for the analysis consisted of a total of 36 questions, 20 about place facility areas and 16 about management program areas(including 6 questions about the management led by the local community). The questionnaire survey was done during the period between January 12th and January 19th, 2015. The participants in the survey consisted of 15 forest education specialists and 50 teachers from 19 kindergartens who participated in the forest experience program. The number of questionnaire sheets collected and used for analysis was 13 copies and 43 copies, respectively. The mean values of importance and performance on the place facility areas were 4.07 and 3.78 for forest education specialists, and 4.16 and 3.84 for kindergarten teachers, respectively. The mean values of importance and performance regarding the management program area were 4.38 and 4.16 for forest education specialists, and 4.40 and 4.00 for kindergarten teachers, respectively. Both groups evaluated the place facility areas lower than the management program areas. They also evaluated performance lower than importance. In place facility area, 'accessibility', 'safety' and 'connectivity to forest trail', 'loose parts' and 'safety facilities' were required to 'keep up the good work', because they showed higher importance and performance in place facility areas. Even though most items of management as led by the local community including 'forest experience activity support' were evaluated as 'important', some, including 'effort for local revitalization', were evaluated as low in performance. However, as they were evaluated as higher in importance, if they pursue 'concentrate here', it is expected that they will be evaluated as higher in performance. In addition, considering that program areas including 'forest education specialist's role' are labeled under the management led by the local community, it reflected a positive evaluation. As a result, management led by the local community is efficient as a management system for the forest experience center for children in an experiential forest kindergarten education. Going forward, if this management system is durable in 'keep up the good work' and 'concentrate here', the forest experience center for children led by the local community will be an alternative for an effective experiential forest kindergarten education.

  • This study tries to provide the basic information for the plan to improve the information gaps of the disabled persons. After examining the legislation of the facilities for the disabled persons and former studies, it proposes some suggestions for the standards of unique space in public library, convenience facilities and traffic line. It also analyzed present conditions of five public libraries in Daegu Metropolitan City already having separate rooms and facilities for the disabled persons. The result shows that arrangement of disabled person's space and general convenience facilities are insufficient. Some facilities for disabled persons seems to be equipped just to suffice the standards. Detailed legislation or guidelines concerning facilities for them should be developed as soon as possible.

  • This study purpose is comparative analysis of environmental design checklist based on physical characteristics of the elders between Korea and Japan exhibition facilities. We were selected to represent the exhibition facilities in Korea and Japan and conducted field survey and understand the application status. The scope of the exhibition facilities space is entry, exhibition, public-service, educational activity and movement. And the elders physical characteristics are divided into 'sense(eye-sight, hearing, and feeling by touch)' / 'exercise (skeleton, movement, physical strength and muscular strength)'. Based on the checklist, we gave the score depending installation, part installation and uninstallation and then analyzed the average. The Results were as follows. First, Korea and Japan exhibition facilities are appear to similar and both above the average level. It is show that environment design reflects the physical characteristics of the elders. Second, exhibition space and educational activity space has lower score than other space, indicated most items are consist of the recommended. Most items appears as part of the preparation for this installed or uninstalled. Third, It showed that the installation is incomplete entries corresponding to the physical characteristics of the sensory area of the elderly (hearing). Therefore, there need to install additional information facilities such as voice, emergency call bell. Forth, the exhibition facilities appears differently depending on time of erecting and remodeling.

  • Park-and- Rides are intermodal transfer facilities providing a staging location for travellers to transfer between transportation modes. They are an alternative to alleviate transportation problems such as traffic congestion and air pollution in metropolitan areas. Siting Park-and-Ride facilities belongs to a kind of multi-criteria spatial decision making problems being associated with a combination of various location factors. The purpose of this paper is to provide a method and procedure to evaluate the location suitability of Park-and-Ride facilities using GIS(Geographic Information Systems). Using GIS-based suitability analysis, land value, landuse, road accessibility, public transportation accessibility, possibility to intercept automobile trips, distance to activity center and competition with existing facilities were evaluated as location factors. The suitabilities of individual factors were combined to produce a composite map with a specific weight scheme. Then a given number of sites with high suitability score were selected as potential facility locations and their demand were evaluated based on a commutershed with parabolic shape. The suggested method and procedure will provide useful information in determining Park-and-Ride sites and designing their structure.

  • The purpose of this exploratory study is to examine if the application of smart technology(ST) would assist adjustment to the nursing home facilities in the elderly. Since there is not much previous research on this subject, we generated survey questionnaires on our own. Data were collected from the survey of 127 employees at 6 nursing homes including geriatric care workers, social workers and nurses who provide direct as well as indirect care services. Results showed that the utilization of ST would benefit the areas of family relationship support, health support, leisure support, and physical environment adjustment. As for physical environment adjustment, study participants reported that ST would help elders familiarize employees and find directions for specific space the most. As for health support, ST would be best utilized as a security sensor and program alarm system. As for support for family relationship, ST was expected to be utilized as looking at family pictures and playing with self pictures/videos. As for leisure support, ST was expected to assist elders to listen to music and watch movies/TV. These results were different according to the characteristics of the participants and the smartifacts. These results of the study will show the direction for more in-depth studies on application of smart technology for the elderly in the future.

  • Elderly care services are health, mental health, social health, and residential services provided to temporarily or chronically disabled older persons over an extended period of time with a goal of enabling them to function as independently as possible. And elderly care facilities such as nursing homes are places in which elderly care services have to be delivered effectively. It is, therefore, desirable to compose the space of elderly care facilities to meet the mental and physical abilities of frail elder people. This study has proposed the hierarchical space organization of elderly care facilities with an aim to fulfill the goals of them. Frail older people in hierarchically designed homes are anticipated to use the inner and outer spaces of care facilities as independently as possible in accordance with their physical and mental abilities.
