  • This study aims to examine the capability of organizing local records. Based on literature reviews, this study identified that space can be a useful context of records. Accordingly, it designed a records model on additional space entity. It attempted to organize five sample records based on the space of the port of Busan (Busanhang) using CIDOC CRM (6.0). In conclusion, it presented that a space entity provides relations across other entities. As such, it is possible to propose a defining space entity when designing records model that can support the understanding of records' contexts.

  • The purpose of the study is to design a space-based locality documentation model. It begins with analysing the changes of directions and strategies of locality documentation through literature surveys. Based on the analysis, a new paradigm of locality documentation is suggested in digital environment. It then suggests space-based documentation model, i.e., 'spanDoc Model (SPAace-based Networked Documentation Model)' which represent the new paradigm. The model focuses on planning the framework of use and accumulation of locality documentation.

  • This study aims to explore practicable and sustainable strategies for locality documentation through networking, linking, and recontextualization of records in digital environments. It applies the 'spanDoc(SPAace-based Networked Documentation) Model to document Donghae-Nambu Railway areas placed in Busan Metropolitan City tentatively. Considering that mobility and openness are the main characteristics of Busan, railway areas and their stations can be proper places for representing such localities of the city. Moreover, there can be much experiences and memories of residents surrounding those areas, because Donghae-Nambu Railway has been used as short distance transportation facilities across the inner city of Busan since 1930's. This study tries to implement the documentation strategy for the selected space, following the procedures of the spanDoc Model. Firstly, this study develops the structure of the subjects through investigating the related information sources and archives from various collecting institutions. Secondly, it carries out records surveys to identify the essential records types for documenting the Donghae-Nambu Railway areas. Thirdly, it describes the subjects and sub-subjects, and the entries of places, people and subjects for adding to the dictionaries. Finally, it links many entities such as subjects, records, and dictionary, and builds the databases regarding the inter-links and systematic accumulation of the outputs of each step.

  • Many multiplexing techniques are proposed for high storage densities in a volume hologram. In this paper, we present a hybrid angularly and spatially multiplexed volume holographic memory system. Multiple holograms are recorded by using reference and object waves with different incident angles and positions that are changed by step motors. A hologram is written by exposing the crystal with recording time schedule to the interference pattern of the object beam and a reference plane wave. Finally, we show experimental results of the storage of three layers of 300 multiplexed holograms in a LiNbO$_3$ : Fe crystal.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest new methodologies for documenting locality in digital environment, reformulation the Cox's documentation model focused on cooperative acquisition of documentary heritage institutions. This study defines the concepts of locality, space and place, relation of collective memory to archives, and analyzes the four approaches of documentation comparatively. Based on these analyses, it suggests the categories of documenting locality, and the directions of archive portal design for collective memory of locality.

  • Maul is a rural community with common culture and self-government system and generally consists of tens of houses living together in Korea. Maul is different from a village in the West. Maul archive is a community archive of a maul. It is not only the space to record the life of residents, history and culture of a maul but also the space to realize democracy by the participation of maul residents and to satisfy the cultural life of current residents. Nowadays, it is very important to establish maul archives to connect mauls and to communicate with the outside world, to reinforce the orignal form in maul culture and revive the alienated maul culture. To establish the maul archives, it is necessary to draw the recognition and continuous interest of the central and local government and scientifical study of scholars. The first step to found maul archives is to organize a committee. Then the committee will benchmark the preceding practices, collect, record and manage the maul archives. The maul archives is recommended to be housed in an existent traditional house with some remodeling for spaces of display and education, preservation and management. I believe that the maul archive is culturally meaningful for the resident. They will enjoy and develop their lives better, connected to outside world. The co-operation of the scholar, the resident, and the government will foster the maul archive to a success.

  • This study explores the strategies for documenting extinct places by clarifying the concepts of place and sense of place and highlighting the importance of place documentation. The disappearance of a place signifies the loss of a medium that evokes memory. Place documentation, a process of recording the sense of place, can restore memory media, resolve the lack of shared memories, and strengthen community identity. It also provides archiving methods and tools to involve stakeholders as record producers to enrich the context further. Thus, the study proposes key strategies, including resident participation, communication of place identity through archives, and cultural-artistic integration projects. The Jeungpyeong Archives' "Maryknoll Clinic" project serves as a case study based on these strategies to illustrate how place documentation is implemented.

  • To increase the storage density in hologram recording, a simple scheme to obtain rotational, angular and spatial multiplexing efficiently at the same time is proposed and experimented. Both rotational multiplexing and angular multiplexing are obtained by controlling the reference beam directly by use of a pair of wedge prisms, while spatial multiplexing is obtained by shifting the recording medium in the recording plane. It is possible to get both an acute-angle geometry, in which the angle between the signal and reference beams is less than 90$^{\circ}$, and a 90$^{\circ}$ geometry, in which the angle is approximately 90$^{\circ}$. In experiment, 180 holograms were multiplexed with an acute-angle geometry where a photopolymer was used for the recording medium, and 147 holograms with 90$^{\circ}$ geometry where a Fe-doped LiNbO$_3$ crystal was used. The proposed scheme makes it easy it easy to realize a practical holographic memory system by simplifying the control of three complex mechanical motions that are necessary for the three multiplexing techniques.

  • For a society to be constantly sustained, it needs its past memories to be made present into cultural memories. The state of oblivion resulted from the time difference of the past and the present is commonly made present into commemoration days or memorial spaces. Each has its own form of representation it reflects, but all are related to how past is remembered and how it will be formed. Records, especially the authentic records the nation secured, have an ontological feature of proof that is able to persuade the current present of the past present, and inherent in it is faith that originates from fundamental objectivity. Therefore the image of silence that such strictness of records creates realizes the detonation of specific memories through the act of visual exhibition. Hence, this paper endeavors to examine how the national records, particularly the photographical records, was utilized and how it influenced the people and the society after its organization, through analysing examples of memorial spaces.
