A Study on a Geodesign Interface for Creative Spatial Design (창의적 공간설계를 위한 Geodesign Interface 연구)

  • Geodesign was suggested by Dangermond(2009) as a next paradigm of GIS to be a future basis for spatial planning and design. Ko(2015) also suggested a geodesign methodology that uses spatial information from a landscape designer's perspective. Spatial planning and design fundamentally require creativity and efficiency but Ko's methodology did not include the creativity aspect. To complement the deficiency, this paper expand the research scope to deal with a designer's cognitive limits and to provide better experiences for the landscape designers. An interface was designed to improve the designer's creativity based on interactions that were derived from a script of landscape design. The expanded methodology for both efficiency and creativity is suggested for the interface by analyzing preceding researches. ESRI's GeoPlanner for ArcGIS, as a first geodesign software, is compared to improve the interface in terms of creativity. One of the difficulties as a thesis is that it is not easy to measure the improvement of design creativity physically and quantitatively. This paper tried to eliminate any stumbling block in supporting creativity and to help designers find new orders in design subconsciousness and to reach a new concept. In addition, the interface to express instantaneous design ideas would be a guide to overcome the designer's cognitive limits.

Activation of Limbic Area due to Oxygen Administration during Visuospatial Task (공간 과제 수행 시 고농도 산소 공급에 의한 변연계 활성화에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to observe activation of limbic system during performing visuospatial tasks by 21% and 30% oxygen administration. Eight right handed male college students were selected as the subjects for this study. A visuospatial task was presented while brain images were scanned by a 3T fMRI system. The experiment consisted of two runs: one was a visuospatial task under normal air(21% oxygen) condition and the other under hyperoxic air(30% oxygen) condition. The neural activations were observed at the limbic system which is seperated 8 regions such as cingulate gyrus, thalamus, limbic lobe, hypothalamus, hippocampus, parahippocampa gyrus, amygdala, and mammiilary body. By two oxygen levels, activation areas of limbic system are almost identical. Increased neural activations were observed in the cingulate gyrus and thalamus with 30% oxygen administration compared to 21% oxygen. During 30% oxygen administration, improvement of visuospatial task performance has a relation to increase of neural activation of subcortical structures such as thalamus and cingulate gyrus as well as cerebral cortex.

  • The design of children's hospitals is highly dependent on color schemes. As a space shared together by both adults and children, the design of children's hospitals require color coordination that takes account of the users' characteristics. However, because the majority of prior research on color perception has focused overly on the emotional aspects, there is a necessity for more rational and scientific analyses to identify the characteristics of the visual perception of colors. Adopting this perspective in analyzing the characteristics of the visual perception of colors, this study aims to move beyond the abstract to focus on more objective methods, such as eye-tracking experiments, to examine the characteristics of hospital visitors' visual attention with respect to colors. Visual perception tracking experiment was conducted on the 2 chosen experimental images with a target group made up of adults and children, the following results were found. Firstly, spaces created with the preference colors of the different groups were found to develop a characteristic of developing higher attention. Secondly, observing the common tendencies for attention for adults and children, the highest region for visual concentration was formed towards the middle, as attention progresses to lower stages visually focused area changes in the order of upper-middle, left and right, and lower regions and edge regions show characteristics of not triggering attention Thirdly, it is understood that children's level of attention drops a lot faster than adults when identifying space therefore it is suspected that children need more elaborate color coordination than adults.

Effects of Object- and Space-Based Attention on Working Memory (대상- 및 공간-기반 주의가 작업기억에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the effects of space- and object-based attention on spatial and visual working memory, by measuring recognition of working memory on the spatial Stroop task including two modalities of attention resource. The similarity condition of stimulus arrangement between working memory task and spatial stroop task was manipulated in order to examine the effects of space-based attention on spatial rehearsal during working memory task, while Stroop rendition was manipulated in order to examine the effects of object-based attention on object rehearsal during working memory task. The results showed that in a condition that stimulus arrangement was highly similar for the spatial working memory task and the spatial Stroop task, recognition accuracy of the spatial working memory was high, but it was not significantly different with the Stroop conditions. In contrast, the recognition accuracy of visual working memory in the incongruent Stroop condition was lower than that in the congruent Stroop condition, but it was not significantly different with the similarity conditions (25% vs. 75%). The results indicated that selective attention has effects on working memory only when resource modality of working memory is the same as that of selective attention.

  • This paper describes the development of an optimal 3D maze path game as web-based game contents. Client user using web can access and run java applet program with download of java byte code with the independence of hardware system. The optimal 3D maze path game developed in this paper consists of random maze path generation module, selected path input module, weighted optimal path search module, and path comparison module. It enhances the cognition faculty of game users with the comparison of the maze path searched by optimal path search algorithm and the selected maze path by game users.

  • 상황 인식(Context-Aware) 시스템은 현재 자신이 처한 상황 정보를 인식하여 그에 맞는 행동을 결정하고 그 결과에 따라 동작하는 시스템을 일컫는다. 이러한 상황 인식 시스템은, 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅을 비롯해 특정 작업을 수행하기 위해 사용자로부터 주어지는 입력 값 이외의 환경 정보를 필요로 하는 분야에서 주로 사용된다. 이때 시스템이 인지하는 상황은 자신의 작업을 수행하기 위해 필요한 환경 정보로 구성되어 있다. 가령 온도조절 서비스를 담당하는 에이전트가 있다고 할 때, 이 에이전트는 사용자의 요청 온도를 맞춰주기 위해 현재 실내 온도를 측정할 수 있어야 한다. 그래야 요청 온도에 도달했을 때, 동작을 멈출 수 있기 때문이다. 이처럼 각 에이전트가 자신이 필요로 하는 정보를 인지하고 그에 따라 작업을 수행할 때, 다일 에이전트 혼자 그 공간에 존재한다면, 자신이 필요한 정보만을 인지하는 것으로 적절한 작업 수행을 기대할 수 있지만. 둘 이상의 에이전트가 동일 공간에 존재하고, 각 에이전트의 작업 과정이 서로의 수해 과정에 영향을 미칠 가능성 즉, 에이전트 사이의 충돌 발생 가능성이 존재한다. 이미 오디오가 동작하고 있는 방안에서 TV를 작동시키게 된다면, 음악을 들을 수도, TV를 볼 수도 없는 상황이 발생한다. 이에 본 논문에서는 동일 공간에 존재하는 상황 인식 에이전트들 사이에 발생하는 충돌을 해결하기 위한 방법을 제안한다.

  • 최근 다양한 디지털 컨텐츠를 온라인의 서버와 오프라인의 개인 컴퓨터 혹은 소형 정보기기에서 공유하여 사용이 가능하도록 도와주는 시스템과 서비스들이 출현하고 있다. 이와 같은 시스템은 사용자가 언제, 어느 곳에 있더라도 원하는 디지털 컨텐츠에 접근할 수 있도록 도와준다는 장점을 갖고 있으며, 또한 해당 디지털 컨텐츠의 저작권을 보호할 수 있다는 부가적인 이점을 제공한다. 그러나 이들 시스템은 도입 초기에 대부분의 개발자들이 저지르기 쉬운 기능 중심적 사고에 치우친 시스템인 경우가 많다. 이들 기능 중심적인 시스템은 사용자가 해당 시스템을 어떻게 인지할 것인지에 대한 이해가 부족한 한계를 갖고 있으며, 이는 결국 시스템의 사용 편의성에 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 디지털 컨텐츠를 온라인과 오프라인에서 공유하여 사용할 수 있는 시스템의 구조적 메타포로 공간을 선택하였다. 사용자의 시스템 환경으로서 온라인과 오프라인, 그리고 사용자가 디지털 컨텐츠를 이용하여 수행하는 과업으로서 관리/저장과 사용으로 시스템의 구조를 구분하였으며, 이상의 구분에 따라 공간의 메타포를 이용하여 시스템을 디자인하였다. 이와 같이 구분한 시스템의 공간에 따라 사용자가 시스템에 대하여 갖는 관여도와 동기를 측정하였으며, 관여도의 수준과 동기의 차원에 따라 사용 편의성을 높일 수 있는 디자인 요소로서 시스템을 구현하고 있는 색상들 사이의 대비 수준과 색상의 색조 차원을 규명하고자 한다.

Luminance-Adaptation Effect Just-Noticeable-Distortion Modeling according to Frequency in The DCT Domain (이산 코사인 변환 공간에서의 주파수에 따른 광-적응 효과 최소 인지 왜곡 임계치 모델링)

  • 본 논문에서는 DCT 변환 공간상의 배경휘도와 주파수를 고려한 2차원의 개선된 광-적응 효과(luminance adaptation: LA) JND 모델을 제안한다. 기존의 LA JND 모델은 배경 휘도가 중간점인 회색에 가까울수록 JND가 낮고, 배경 휘도가 어두워지거나 밝아질수록 JND 값이 증가하는 U자형의 1차원 함수형태를 보였다. 그러나 기존 LA JND 모델은 주파수에 따른 영향이 반영되지 않았기 때문에 DCT와 같은 주파수 공간상 JND 모델로는 부정확 한 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 주파수와 배경휘도에 따른 2차원 LA JND 모델을 제안한다. 주파수에 따른 LA JND 값을 실제 실험을 통해 획득하였다. 실험 방법은 9가지 크기의 배경 휘도가 다르고 공간적 복잡도가 없는 균일한 영상을 대상으로 $8{\times}8$ 실수형 DCT를 수행한 다음, 15가지 경우의 주파수 크기가 다른 계수들에 대해 사람이 인지 할 때 까지 노이즈를 증가시켜서 JND 값을 찾는 방식을 사용하였다. 실험 결과 4 cpd(cycle per degree) 보다 작은 주파수 대역 에서는 기존의 LA JND 모델과 유사한 결과를 얻었지만 4 cpd보다 큰 주파수 대역에서는 오히려 배경휘도가 작은 값을 가질수록 JND가 감소하는 형태를 보였다. 수행한 실험 결과를 반영하여 주파수가 반영된 2차원 LA JND 모델을 제안한다.

  • This study examines the influence of experiencing interactive media in exhibition halls on the satisfaction and perception for the exhibition space. Field measurements and surveys were performed in two exhibition halls where various interactive media were exhibited. Results imply that experiencing interactive media was important to enhance understanding the information provided by them. In order to improve satisfaction for the exhibition halls, the layout of space need to be organized effectively in a way that visitors easily feel interest in the contents and information exhibited in the space. Also, in order to keep better perception for exhibition space, the information provided in the space should be organized clearly and open to visitors easily. The flow of visitors' traffic in the exhibition space should be perceived easily by the visitors. Multiple linear regression indicated that the space should be organized effectively with good visual composition that surrounds the exhibits in order to improve satisfaction level for the exhibition hall. In addition, various information provided by the media contributed to improve perception for the exhibition hall.

Virtual learning environments for improving spatial sense of young children (유아의 공간감각 향상을 위한 가상학습공간 구축)

  • The 'spatial senses' mean environments and the instinctive responds to objects in the environments. The infancy is an important period to develop the basic capacity of the 'spatial senses'. Since young children can develop the 'spatial senses' throughout the actual and active search, it is essential for them to do experience through their physical actions. This paper proposes four motion based-contents for improving the spatial sense of young children: a bubble game, a cyber goalkeeper game, a mud-huddle game, and a shape recognition game. The proposed four games are implemented to the virtual learning environments. Also, the virtual learning environments utilize the realistic interfaces which can recognize motions of young children and then interact with the games as they do the movement at the virtual environments provided. Using the realistic interfaces not only develops young children's spatial sense but also offers them the pleasure and interest of self-study.
