A Research on Space Identity Developing model by Design Process (디자인프로세스를 활용한 공간 아이덴티티 개발 모델에 관한 연구)

  • This paper deals with a space identity development model using design process. The main contents of the study are as follows. First, this study has defined the design process concept and studied various design process model. Second, the meaning of space design process was studied and concept definition was made. Third, it developed a conceptual model of space design process for developing space identity. Finally, a conceptual model that can define space identity by applying design process to complex and various types of space is studied and presented. This study applied positivist research methods such as literature review and various theoretical review to study design process and space identity. The research on space design process adopts indirect research method based on previous research data.

Trend of Creativity-related Spatial Design Education Focusing on Design Process (공간디자인의 창의성 연계 교육 연구동향 -디자인 프로세스를 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the trend of spatial design education focusing on creativity based on design process. In this research, the theoretical frame of design process focused on creativity was organized and the trend of creativity education study in the spatial design and other design sectors was compared and analyzed. As a result of the research, the creativity education study of spatial design analyzed such a result showed the relatively low frequency, many of studies related to formative expression of idea. On the contrary, the creativity education of other design sectors is related to overall process the most, the major contents were represented as a creativity enhancement eduction through the conversion with other sectors, the utilization of study method and theology and the utilization of IT technology. The result of this study suggests that more various attempts are required for the spatial design education and that the attempts should orient the conversion between science and art, humanity and science and the integrated access of digital and analogue.

Assessment of Usability of Webstorming System in Space Design Process (공간디자인 프로세스에서 웹스토밍 시스템의 활용성 평가)

  • The present thesis is to concretize process stages and methods for effective use of online CGTS(creative group thinking system), or the web-storming program, in space design and to propose a support system for idea generation specific to space design. For the purpose of this study, activity factors in space design process and functional factors of the web-storming program were written into an interaction matrix, which was used for a questionnaire survey on correlations. Then, the results of the interaction matrix were visualized and analyzed following the procedure of observation-interpretation-application. The analysis found that the schematic design stage is most correlated where close collaboration is performed in the process of space design and that differences in correlation arise upon division of work. As such, the present study proposed 'provision of media for ideas in accordance with specific process and UI optimization' as a means of improving usability in schematic design that is closely correlated and suggested an idea to enhance the applicability of web-storming system in division of work.

  • The goal of this research was to build comprehensive and systematic basic materials related to IT industry and spatial design. In this research, the trend in spatial design research and its categories are identified and analyzed. The research results show that spatial design researches related to web have declined for last five years. However, a new possibility appears to be latent. An attempt to build database of diverse design information has led to increase in fusion of spatial design education and IT technology from design perspective. Futhermore, residents of space are becoming more active, starting from spatial design to management. Finally, from th environmental perspective, researches on predicting and managing buildings are also growing. Accordingly, diverse researches and financial support for grafting creative education, design process, environment-friendly IT technology and spatial design are needed.

  • In space design or form design step, recognized necessity of digital design practical use. Also, deduced systematized analysis method that can use various function of CAD system actively. These method can promote the practical use because third dimensional digital design escapes plan and design process in concept that get presentation result after is completed, establishes role of effective and systematic digital design at planning and design of space or form. This uses by a design tool that ease designer's judgment and space and form analysis in architectural planning and design process that third dimension digital design is not part by a simplicity design tool. Share and takes advantage of digital design process method that is deduced in this study, need continuance of connection study for more effective and systematic digital design methodology deduction. Need public ownership of teaching material development and teaching method that can deliver extended third dimension digital design process.

A Proposal for Meta Guideline of Orientate Signage Design based on Information Design (정보디자인 관점에서 방향 안내 표지판 디자인의 메타 가이드라인 제안)

  • Wayfinding is a 'Process solving problem to find destination', and it is important to select spatial data for optimal way. Recently, due to the complexity of space and the expansion of the medium of the wayfinding service, it is necessary to the approach on the information design for them. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose a meta guideline on the information design for the design of orientation sign, which is an important cognitive clue in the wayfinding. It was conducted in 3 stages, First, a design process was proposed and design elements were derived for each step by literature research related to information and sign design, and analysis of manual for signage design. Second, a meta guideline for information organization and visualization in the three-stage design process was proposed by FGI and analysis. Third, the meta guideline was applied to the sign design on an area for user evaluation to inspect the applicability of the meta guideline. Through the user questionnaire, the possibility of applying the guideline for visualization of directions and spaces, information hierarchy according to spatial characteristics and information priority was identified. It is meaningful in that necessary element for signage design are systematized centering on the process and that it presents a macroscopic methodology according to spatial characteristics.

  • The aim of this study was to suggest an enhancement of pedestrian safety through a service design process regarding urban design in new-town area. For this study, the concept, process and touchpoint, and survey design area, of the service design are reviewed as a theoretical study. According to this study, traffic signals, pedestrian environment, pedestrian overpass, and access traffic road were surveyed as touchpoints and a problem search, concept design, design building, institutional implement were analyzed as a service design process. As a result of these studies, the planning method for pedestrian safety based on service design process in terms of the external space design in a new-town area are suggested.

Comparative Assessment of Usability of Web-storming System between Administrator and Designer Groups in Space Design Process (공간디자인 프로세스에서 관리자·실무자 그룹의 웹스토밍 시스템 활용성 비교평가)

  • Considering the online idea generation, or web-storming, system would be used differently by space designers depending on their job characteristics, the present study tested the usability of web-storming using a factor correlation table with a designer group in the field. Then, for analyses, the results were compared with the previous findings on the usability of web-storming in a design administrator group to suggest comprehensive measures applicable to web-storming. The questionnaire results were analysed following a process of observation-interpretation-application, and the space design process and web-storming function factors were also analysed based on a factor correlation table. The analyses found that the most correlated space design process in both administrator and designer groups was the schematic design phase, and that the correlation started to lower upon division of labour. The assessment phase was found significantly different between the designer group and the administrator group. The assessment phase showed the second highest correlation in the designer group. In terms of the aspects related to project operation, the correlation was found higher in the designer group. Based on the findings, new applicable measures to each phase of web-storming were derived and summed up to suggest how to take advantage of web-storming in the field.

A study on design process for public space by users behavioral characteristics (이용자 행태 특성에 의한 공용공간의 디자인 프로세스 연구)

  • A systemic approach to behavior on the basis of human psychology is needed for behavior-centered space design. Also, the recognition that human and environment, in all, have complementarity is needed- human and space shall be understood as a general phenomenon, supposing interaction. Design of behavior-oriented space means configuration and coordination of physical subjects as well as understanding, analysis and reflection of psychological and behavioral phenomena. It is analysis of a private individual as well as understanding of interaction between human groups, as well. In respect of space recognition, analysis not on material movement but on energy circulation and variable is important. It means that the understanding of user's behavior and psychology does not orient reasonable purpose just for convenience. That is, such understanding intends to understand behavioral patterns and psychological phenomena between space and human beyond the decomposition of structure of human and space into physical elements and the design based on standardized data. Thereby, more human-oriented space design might be implemented by the understanding of behavioral essence. Also, a user-centered design process from another viewpoint might be created, and the general amenity among man, space and environment - better environmental quality - might be produced. For this, the consciousness of human activity that is, activity system shall be ahead of it, and the approaches for design shall be implemented into a process not in predictive ideas but in semi-scientific system. On the basis of the above view, this study was attempted to investigate the orientation of design to recognize space as another life, and explore a process where it is drawn into a design language on the basis of human behavior. If the essence of space behavior and the activity system are analyzed through user observation and it is reflected upon a space design program and then developed into a formative language, a new design process on human and environment might be produced. In conclusion, the reflection of user's behavior and psychology into design, contrary to existing public space design based on physical data, can orient quality improvement of human life and ultimately be helpful to the proposition, 'humanization of space'.

A Study on the Expression of Placeness in Space Design using Digital Process (디지털 프로세스를 활용한 공간디자인의 장소성 표현에 관한 연구)

  • The placeness has been lost in space design since Modernism, especially Internationalism. Digital space design of today is one of the means to complement that. The purpose of this study is to grasp a trend in the expression of placeness, being appeared in digital space design process through case analysis. As the result of this study, the placeness in digital design process expressed by parametric elements had each effective internal algorithms. Especially, space design using digital process were expressed placeness by physical context such as topography, conditions of location, landscape, axis of road, traffic elements and climate. And social context were expressed by user experience through his cognition.
