  • In this paper, I propose an automatic extraction method of golf swing features using a practical TOF camera Kinect. I extracted 7 key swing frames and features using joints and depth information from a Kinect. I tested the proposed method on 50 swings from 10 players and showed the performace. It is meaningful that 3D swing features are extracted automatically using an inexpensive and simple system and specific numerical feature values can be used for the building of automatic swing analysis system.

  • In this paper, I propose an automatic analysis method of golf swine from single-camera video sequences. I define necessary swing features for automatic swing analysis in 2-dimensional environment and present efficient swing analysis methods using various image processing techniques including line and edge detection. The proposed method has two characteristics compared with previous swing analysis systems and related studies. First, the proposed method enables an automatic swing analysis in 2-dimension while previous systems require 3-dimensional environment which is relatively complex and expensive to run. Second, swing analysis is done automatically without human intervention while other 2-dimensional systems necessarily need analysis by a golf expert. I tested the method on 20 swing video sequences and found the proposed method works effective for automatic analysis of golf swing.

  • In this paper, I propose an image based feature extraction method for an automatic golf swing analysis. While most swing analysis systems require an expert like teaching professional, the proposed method enables an automatic swing analysis without a professional. The extracted features for swing analysis include not only key frames such as addressing, backward swing, top, forward swing, impact, and follow-through swing but also important positions of golfer's body parts such as hands, shoulders, club head, feet, knee. To see the effectiveness of the proposed method. I tested it for several swing pictures. Experimental results show that the proposed method is effective for extracting important swing features. Further research is under going to develop an automatic swing analysis system using the proposed features.

  • In this paper, we propose a synchronized playback method of 3D reference model and video by extracting golf swing information from learner's golf video to precisely compare and analyze each motion in each position and time in the golf swing, and present the implementation result. In order to synchronize the 3D model with the learner's swing video, the learner's golf swing movie is first photographed and relative time information is extracted from the photographed video according to the position of the golf club from the address posture to the finishing posture. Through applying time information from learners' swing video to a 3D reference model that rigs the motion information of a pro-golfer's captured swing motion at 120 frames per second through high-quality motion capture equipment into a 3D model and by synchronizing the 3D reference model with the learner's swing video, the learner can correct or learn his / her posture by precisely comparing his or her posture with the reference model at each position of the golf swing. Synchronized playback can be used to improve the functionality of manually adjusting system for comparing and analyzing the reference model and learner's golf swing. Except for the part where the image processing technology that detects each position of the golf posture is applied, It is expected that the method of automatically extracting the time information of each location from the video and of synchronized playback can be extended to general life sports field.

  • This paper proposes an automatic indexing algorithm of golf video using audio information. In the proposed algorithm, the input audio stream is demultiplexed into the stream of video and audio. By means of Adaboost-cascade classifier, the continuous audio stream is classified into announcer's speech segment recorded in studio, music segment accompanied with players' names on TV screen, reaction segment of audience according to the play, reporter's speech segment with field background, filed noise segment like wind or waves. And golf swing sound including drive shot, iron shot, and putting shot is detected by the method of impulse onset detection and modulation spectrum verification. The detected swing and applause are used effectively to index action or highlight unit. Compared with video based semantic analysis, main advantage of the proposed system is its small computation requirement so that it facilitates to apply the technology to embedded consumer electronic devices for fast browsing.
