  • In recent years, women's monetary rewards in golf increased and their performances have improved significantly compared to other sports. Sports marketing has become more active in Asia and the number of Korean players in LPGA with good scores are increasing. For these reasons, golf is becoming increasingly popular. The prize money is higher than in other sports and the economic benefits are increasing due to the financial incentives such as sponsorships. Many of these prospects actively affect women's golf. Certain rookies continue to increase and their performances improve day by day. In this study, I analyze the changes in performance over time of last 5 years from 2009 using growth curve analysis. According to the results of analysis, driving distance and average putting skills developed but green in regulation decreased.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the factors influencing the attitudes and dispositions of doping in elite golf players. 136 elite golfers (75 male, 61 female) were participated in this study and responded to Performance Enhancement Attitude Scale, Perfectionism in Sport Scale and Perceived Motivational Climate in Sport Questionnaire-2. Data that were collected analyzed by hierarchical multi regression. In male golfers, unequal recognition (UR) of coach had a positive effect on the attitudes and dispositions of doping, and rivalry (R) had a negative effect on that. In female golfers, Coach's criticism (CC) had a positive effect on the attitudes and dispositions of doping. The effective anti-doping program which reflects the results of this study should be developed and implemented for elite golf players who need the anti-doping education.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among perfectionism, stress, and burnout in college golf athletes. Participants were 221 college students. Self-oriented perfectionism and socially prescribed perfectionism were found to be the antecedent variables causing stress. Self-oriented perfectionism reduced personal accomplishments, and socially prescribed perfectionism increased the level of burnout. Additionally, perceived stress not only engendered emotional exhaustion but also reduced personal accomplishments. Regarding indirect effects, self-oriented perfectionism and socially prescribed perfectionism increased the level of stress and affected athletes' emotional exhaustion and lack of accomplishments. The results will be of use for helping athletes to escape from the perfectionism that occurs due to their obsession with winning, thus laying the foundation for athletes to continue to enjoy their sports.

  • This study predicts the average scores of top 150 PGA golf players on 132 PGA Tour tournaments (2013-2015) using data mining techniques and statistical analysis. This study also aims to predict the Top 10 and Top 25 best players in 4 different playoffs. Linear and nonlinear regression methods were used to predict average scores. Stepwise regression, all best subset, LASSO, ridge regression and principal component regression were used for the linear regression method. Tree, bagging, gradient boosting, neural network, random forests and KNN were used for nonlinear regression method. We found that the average score increases as fairway firmness or green height or average maximum wind speed increases. We also found that the average score decreases as the number of one-putts or scrambling variable or longest driving distance increases. All 11 different models have low prediction error when predicting the average scores of PGA Tournaments in 2015 which is not included in the training set. However, the performances of Bagging and Random Forest models are the best among all models and these two models have the highest prediction accuracy when predicting the Top 10 and Top 25 best players in 4 different playoffs.
