  • Host plants or Ectinohoplia rufipes (Motschulsky) (En) were investigated in golf courses and laboratory. E. rufipes adults fed on 61 plant species of 27 families out of 101 plant species of 41 families supplied in laboratory. In addition, twenty-seven plant species in 8 families were observed to be fed on from golf courses. Thus, total number of host plants of E. rufipes were 84 species in 29 families. E. rufipes adults preferred Japanese green alder (Alnus firma) , cherry apple (Malus sieholdii), cherry (Prunus serrulata var. spontanea) and sweet oliver (Osmantus asiaticus) in golf courses . The preference of E. rufipes adults with A. firma , P. serrulata vu. spontanea and O. asiaticus was bioassayed in laboratory. E. rufies adults preferred A. firma consuming 58.1% to O. asiaticus and p. serrulata vats. spontanea. The most number of E. rufipes adults was attracted to damaged leaf of A. firma by E. rufipes representing 45.3clo and followed by artificial damaged leaf representing 26.5% , untried feeding leaf representing 12.9% and undamaged leaf representing 4.0%. More E. rufipes adults were attracted to damaged leaf of A. firma by 67.5% than artificially damaged leaf by 30.5% or undamaged leaf treated with feces of E. rufipes by 2%.

  • The oriental beetle, Exomala orientalis, Is the most important insect pest of turfgrass in Korean golf courses. The study was carried out to get practical information on the sampling of E. orientalis in golf courses. Real numbers of E. orientalis larvae were compared with and observed numbers depending on sampling size (5$\times$5 cm, l0$\times$10 cm, 20$\times$20 cm, 30$\times$30 cm, and 40$\times$40 cm) and times (3 to 15 replicates) in Dongrae Benest Golf Club. Over 95% accuracy was obtained between real data and estimated data at the density of over 303 larvae/m$^2$ when the 20$\times$20 cm was sampled with 4 replications. Larval density of E. orientalis was different depending on year and course sites (tee, fairway, rough, green).

  • Occurrence ecology and possibility of mass trapping of Popillia quadriguttata, one of the most serious turfgrass insect pest in domestic golf courses was investigated using pheromone traps in Gimpo and Jinhae. Peak period of adult occurrence of P. quadriguttata was late June and early July in Gimpo Seaside Country Club from 2006 to 2008. It was early and middle July in Youngwon Country Club in 2006. The first catched day of P. quadriguttata adult was 20 June, while the last day was 10 September in Gimpo Seaside Country Club, 2006. Mean catched number of P. quadriguttata adult in Japanese beetle pheromone trap per day in peak period of occurrence were 18.2, 25.7, 29.0, and 15.7 at 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 respectively. Mean catched number of P. quadriguttata adult in Japanese beetle pheromone trap were more in fairways or roughs than tees or greens. Possibility of control of scarab beetle using pheromone trap with pesticide treatment was investigated against oriental beetle, Blitopertha orientalis in Dongrae Benest Golf Club. Mean number of dead oriental beetle adult were more higher(2.9 folds) in fenitrothion EC treatment than fenitrothion EC treatment after set oriental beetle pheromone trap.

  • Earworm is very useful animal in soil ecosystem, however it is harmful for golf courses because they introduce many cast on turfgrass that reduces turf uniformity and play quality. However, no information has found on earthworm diversity and seasonal fluctuation in different Korean golf courses. In this study, we focused to carry out earthworm species composition and seasonal population structure in turfgrass of golf courses. During spring and fall season survey with direct digging and tea saponin drenching sampling in 5 different golf courses, 6 species under 3 families of earthworms were collected. Earthworm species composition and density was different among the golf courses. Aporrectodea caliginosa in Lumbricidae was dominant species in Anseong and Dongrae Benest Golf Club; however Amynthas carnosus in Megascolecidae was dominant species in Anyang and Glenrose Golf Club. Ap. caliginosa was collected only aclitellum in July and Am. carnosus was collected aclitellum and clitellum in August in golf courses. Seasonal population of earthworm was different depending on earthworm species (Am. hupeiensis was the highest in August and Ap. caliginosa was in April) however small number of collected earthworm species were not dominant trend in golf courses.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out about unknown golf activities through sociological analysis based on the relationship between King Youngchin's life in Japan and the people around him. The following conclusions were drawn. King Youngchin was influenced by the Japanese imperial family to learn golf for the first time in 1924, and participated in golf tournaments in 1925. In 1927, during a one-year European tour, he participated in golf games in Singapore, Paris, Switzerland, England, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy, as well as golf course tours, golf lessons, and visiting golf ball manufacturing factories. After returning from Europe, he provided support for the site of Gyeongseong Gunjari Golf Course, construction and operation expenses. However, he did not show any special golf activities during his life as a high class Japanese military officer, and after the Pacific War, he could not find any more golf activities due to social conditions and economic conditions such as wartime restoration. There were no more golf activities due to health problems from 1958.
