Recently, interest grew on the quality of aggregates following the diminution of primary resources from river as to grow construction demand and the low grade of nature sand like sea sand. Following, need is to diversify the supply sources of fine aggregates which are excessively relying on sea sand and urgency is to find as soon as possible aggregate resources that can substitute sea sand. On the other hand, various fine aggregates are utilized to produce concrete in the domestic construction fields. However, few studies have been systematically investigated on the effects of such fine aggregates on concrete properties. Therefore, this study examined the effects of comparatively widely used fine aggregates in the domestic construction fields on the quality of concrete through the analysis of the effects of such fine aggregates on the physical properties of fresh concrete and strength of hardened concrete. Results revealed that crushed sand degraded the fluidity and air entraining of concrete compared to natural aggregates like sea sand and river sand. Especially, the use of crushed sand exhibiting bad grain shape and grade was larger adverse effect on the physical properties of concrete. The type of fine aggregates appeared to have negligible influence on the strength for W/C of 55%, 45% while crushed sand decreased the strength for W/C of 35% compared to natural aggregates. It analyzed that the combination of crushed sand exhibiting bad grain shape and grade with natural aggregates improved the characteristics of fresh concrete and had negligible influence on the strength.

Plastic wastes generated from domestic waste are separated by mixed discharge with foreign substances, and the cost of the separation and screening process increases, so recycling is relatively low. In this study, as a fundamental study for recycling mixed plastic wastes generated from domestic waste into concrete aggregates, changes in concrete properties according to the plastic waste types and the substitution rate were evaluated experimentally. The mixed plastic waste aggregate(MPWA) was found to have a lower density and a higher absorption rate compared to the coarse aggregate with good particle size distribution. On the other hand, the single plastic waste aggregate(SPWA) was composed of particles of uniform size, and both the density and the absorption rate were lower than that of the fin e aggregate. It was found that the MPWA substitution concrete did not cause a material separation phenomenon due to a relatively good particle size distribution even with the largest amount of plastic waste substitution, and the amount of air flow increased little. The compressive strength and flexural strength of the PWA substitution concrete decreased as the amount of substitution of the PWA increased due to the low strength of the PWA, the suppression of the cement hydration reaction due to hydrophobicity, and the low adhesion between the PWA and the cement paste. It was found that the degree of deterioration in compressive strength and flexural strength of concrete substituted with MPWA having good particle size distribution was relatively small.
This study was performed to analyze test results on drying shrinkage for concrete specimens mixed with various constituents in concrete mixes. Test variables are coarse aggregate types(Limestone, Sandstone, Granite, Andesite, Gneiss), fine aggregate types(natural sand, crushed sand) and cement amounts(normal strength, high strength). Epoxy coating of(U&V-H(A,B)) was applied onto the specimen surface to simulate diverse volume surface ratios(22.2, 40, 85.7, 150, 200, 300) with different specimen sizes. The experiments had been executed during 1,014 days at a condition of $20^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity of 60% in environmental chambers. Test results showed that shrinkage strain from the specimen equivalent to real pavement decreased to 39% compared to the standard specimen recommended by KS. Test results also showed that shrinkage strain of the specimen mixed with Limestone was 56~76% of that with Sandstone, thus Limestone mix seems to be suitable to the concrete pavement.
Recently, porous concrete has been used for the purpose of decreasing the load of earth environment. It consists solely of cement, water and uniform-sized coarse aggregate. And its fundamental properties will be considerably affected by the physical properties of aggregate because the aggregate occupies for the most part in its mix proportion. For such a reason, this study was carried out to investigate the influence of the sizes and kinds of aggregate for the fundamental properties of porous concrete. It showed that the fundamental properties of porous concrete were the similar value in all sizes of aggregate except in the case of using the 2.5∼5㎜ aggregate and were varied according to the kinds of aggregate. In particular, compressive strength of porous concrete using 2.5∼5㎜ aggregate was more higher than that using other aggregate, and its void ratio and coefficient of permeability was lower. And the maintenance capacity of permeability of porous concrete was varied by the sizes and the kinds of aggregate. In particular, it was greatly decreased in case of using the 2.5∼5㎜ aggregate. And unlike dynamic modulus of elasticity of ordinary concrete, that of porous concrete was very high value in early ages and was slowly increased after that time.

Recently, with the increase in the number of high rise and huge scaled buildings, ultra-high strength concrete with 80~100 MPa has been used increasingly to withstand excessive loads. Among the components of concrete, the effects of the kinds and properties of fine aggregates on the performance and economic advantages of ultra-high strength concrete need to be evaluated carefully. Therefore, this study examined the effects of the type of fine aggregates and mixing methods on the engineering properties of ultra-high strength concrete by varying the fine aggregates including limestone fine aggregate (LFA), electrical arc slag fine aggregate (EFA), washed sea sand (SFA), and granite fine aggregate (GFA) and their mixtures. Ultra-high strength concrete was fabricated with a 20 % water to binder ratio (W/B) and incorporated with 70 % of Ordinary Portland cement: 20 % of fly ash:10 % silica fume. The test results indicate that for a given superplasticizer dose, the use of LFA resulted in increases in slump flow and L-flow compared to the mixtures using other aggregates due to the improved particle shape and grading of LFA. In addition, the use of LFA and EFA led to enhanced compressive strength and a decrease in autogenous shrinkage due to the improved elastic properties of LFA and the presence of free-CaO in EFA, which resulted in the formation of C-S-H.

Since the 1970s, the mechanical properties of concrete at high temperature, such as compressive strength, elastic modulus, thermal strain, etc. have been investigated. Internal and external factors should be effect to concrete elevated temperature. In particular, the thermal properties of aggregate and cooling conditions are most important to estimate residual mechanical properties. This study evaluates the mechanical properties of concrete with aggregate type and cooling methods. We use normal and light aggregate for different thermal properties, and also test mechanical properties to use ${\O}100{\times}200$ mm cylinder specimen according to target temperature, slow cooling and water cooling. We found that normal aggregate concrete that uses is more highly influenced by cooling conditions than concrete that uses light aggregate concrete. In addition, the residual mechanical properties of concrete increase as cooling velocity lowers.

The three factors that determine the strength of concrete are the strength of cement paste, aggregate and ITZ(Interfacial Transition Zone) between aggregate and cement paste. Out of these, the strength of ITZ is the most vulnerable. ITZ is formed in 10~50㎛, the ratio of calcium hydroxide is high, and CSH appears low ratio. A high calcium hydroxide ratio causes a decrease in the bond strength of ITZ. ITZ is due to further weak area. The problem of ITZ appears as a more disadvantageous factor when it used lightweight aggregate. The previous study of ITZ properties have measured interfacial toughness, identified influencing factors ITZ, and it progressed SEM and XRD analysis on cement matrix without using coarse aggregates. also it was identified microstructure using EMPA-BSE equipment. However, in previous studies, it is difficult to understand the microstructure and mechanical properties. Therefore, in this study, a method of measuring electrical resistance using EIS(Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy) measuring equipment was adopted to identify the ITZ between natural aggregate and lightweight aggregate, and it was tested the change of ITZ by surface coating of lightweight aggregate with ground granulated blast furnace slag. As a result, the compressive strength of natural aggregate and lightweight aggregate appear high strength of natural aggregate with high density, surface coating lightweight aggregate appear strength higher than natural aggregate. The electrical resistivity of ITZ according to the aggregate appeared difference.

A large amount of recycled aggregates was produced and crushed from old buildings and pavements. In this study, when these aggregates are re-used in subbase or subgrade materials in near construction sites, their engineering characteristics caused by crushing are investigated in terms of permeability and shear strength. Three different sizes of aggregates (31.5-45.0 mm, 19.0-31.5 mm, 9.5-19.0 mm) and their mixtures, a total of 7 types of aggregates were used in compaction tests (modified D and B methods). After compaction tests, aggregates were sieved and analyzed with four different breakage factors ($B_{15}$, $C_c$, $B_{10}$, $B_r$). The D compaction method gave 2.0-8.0 times more crushable than B compaction method. The breakage factors for the largest size aggregate was 1.4-3.0 times higher than those of the smallest size aggregate. For aggregates with 5.6-9.5 mm sizes, the samples were prepared with $B_{15}$ of 1, 3, 10, 20, 30, 50, 60, and 70 for permeability and direct shear tests. As $B_{15}$ increased, the hydraulic conductivity decreased up to 1/22 for $B_{15}=50$. As $B_{15}$ increased from 1 to 50, the peak friction angle increased from $46.1^{\circ}$ to $54.5^{\circ}$. On the other hand, the friction angle decreased after $B_{15}=60$.
