Segregation in asphalt pavements occurs as a result of the non-uniform distribution of coarse and fine aggregates and causes premature distresses, such as cracking, raveling, and stripping. The effect of segregation on rutting, however, has not been clearly identified. Experimental and analytical work performed in this study indicates that rutting performance is affected by segregation of mixtures. However, the aggregate structure of mixtures appears to be a more critical factor that determines the rutting performance, rather than the level of segregation. Based on the field mixtures evaluated, an increase of coarse aggregate volume in an asphalt mixture is an important factor that results in good rutting performance. This effect holds true for mixtures with lower levels of air voids, but for mixtures with higher levels of air voids, the air voids effect becomes dominant, resulting in a reduction in rutting performance. An air void content of 10% appears to be a threshold that determines the rutting performance of Superpave mixtures. Once the air void content exceeds 10%, the rutting performance of Superpave mixtures decreases significantly, despite the coarse aggregate volume.
In this study, the high qualify recycled fine aggregate manufacturing system by the drying specific gravity separation method was evaluated. For the evaluation of the performance of the recycled aggregate, the engineering properties and durability of recycled aggregate has been tested. From the test results, the quality of recycled fing aggregates was improved by high quality recycled fine aggregate manufacturing system and satisfied with the quality standards of KS and JASS 5. Also, compressive and tensile strengths of recycled concrete show no critical difference caused by recycled fine aggregate replacement ratio. However, durability such as carbonation depth chloride ion penetration depth and drying shrinkage shows more deterioration than the concrete without recycled fine aggregate

In general, the waste concrete is simply crushed and reused as a recycled aggregate at a low value application such as back filling material. It because that the quality of recycled aggregate is lower than one of natural aggregate due to the insufficient liberation of aggregate and cement mortar. So in this study, the liberation characteristics of liberation of aggregate and cement mortar is analyzed to investigate the limitation of conventional crushing stage at waste concrete processing circuit. In this process, thermal treatment method is evaluated for the enhancement of liberation. From test results, the preferential breakage along the grain boundary is not accomplished by the conventional crushers. It leads a low quality of recycled aggregate and a fracture of aggregate. To solve these problems, gentle breakage is used as a breakage mechanism to induce preferential breakage along the grain boundary. The recycled aggregate produced from the free fall test, which adopts a gentle breakage, shows a better liberation characteristics and a higher quality.
To solve resource exhaustion and waste management problems caused by mass consumption, there are many efforts to change from resource consumption system to recycling system. Specially, interests about management of construction waste have increased, but efficient recycling system of waste concrete is not established yet. In this study, high quality recycled aggregate processing circuit was developed to recycle waste concrete. From the waste concrete which is a hydrated compound with coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, and cement material, high quality recycled coarse aggregate for concrete making was produced by autogenous milling and heat pretreatment method. After then, refinement process was performed to separate fine aggregate and cement material from waste concrete fines by sink float separation and hindered-settling separation. As a result, high quality recycled aggregate was produced from waste concrete by developed processing circuit.

Recently, the recycling and reusing of construction and demolition waste concrete is urgently required because waste concrete is greatly increased according to the rapid increasing of urban redevelopment project, but the problem solution for demand and supply unbalance of fine aggregate is urgently required because of the restriction of collecting sea fine aggregate. So the utilization of high quality recycled fine aggregate using construction and demolition waste concrete as new fine aggregate for construction industry is urgently. Accordingly, In this study, As recycled fine aggregate manufacturing technology with exceeding in economical efficiency, reduction efficiency of environmental load and quality improvement effect of recycled fine aggregate, it is to develop dry manufacturing system composed specific gravity separator of high-speed rotation impact type and centrifugal Force Powder Collector, etc. And it is to examine mechanism of recycled sand dry manufacturing system.

As recycled fine aggregate manufacturing technology with exceeding in economical efficiency, reduction efficiency of environmental load and quality improvement effect of recycled fine aggregate, it is to develop dry manufacturing system composed specific gravity separator of high-speed rotation impact type and centrifugal Force Powder Collector, etc. in this study. And it is to verify performance with evaluating quality of recycled fine aggregate. In consequence, it is identify that performance improvement effect of recycled fine aggregate by crushing recycled fine aggregate according to high-speed rotation impact, separating and collecting powder and minuteness dust according to centrifugal Force and mass defect, separating and reclaiming minuteness sand to mass defect.
Recently, the reuse of coarse aggregate derived from demolished concrete was introduced into practice with two environmental aspects: protection of natural sources of aggregate and recycling of construction waste. However, recycled aggregate has been used for the very limited application such as subbase material for pavement and constructional filling material because it was considered as low quality constructional materials. In the present study, in order to examine the possibility that recycled aggregate can be used for concrete mixing, we conducted various experimental tests to identify mineralogical, chemical and mechanical properties of recycled aggregate and to determine the workability and mechanical properties of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC). The cement paste and mortar contained in recycled aggregate significantly affect the basic mechanical properties of aggregate and the workability and mechanical properties of RAC. However, RCA mixed with the proper replacement ratio of recycled aggregate shows the comparable compressive strength and freeze and thaw resistance to those of normal concrete. Therefore, it is considered that recycled aggregate can be widely used for concrete if the cement paste and mortar can be efficiently removed from recycled aggregate and/or if the effective replacement ratios of recycled aggregate are applied for mixing concrete.
In this study, experimental study on cement grout materials containing anti-washout admixtures or accelerators in grout column for reinforcement technology in groundwater-saturated mining cavity was conducted. As a result, the cement milk containing anti-washout admixtures was suitable for mixed aggregates, and the cement mortar containing anti-washout admixtures and the cement milk containing accelerators were suitable for crushed stone aggregate in terms of forming grout column. Especially, in the case of crushed stone aggregate injecting the cement milk containing accelerators, the diameter of the grout column was greatest and the void of the crushed stone aggregate was filled with grout materials. Therefore the case of crushed stone aggregate injecting the cement milk containing accelerators is considered for optimal grout materials and aggregate.

Aggregate waste separator with rotating separating net was designed for applying classification process of construction waste. In order to evaluate the performance of the aggregate waste separator, according to the type of waste, standardized waste samples are prepared using acrylic. The appropriate operating point was evaluated by the classification efficiency and misclassification rate of recycled aggregate according to the control frequency of the blower operating and inlet position of the separating net. The classification efficiency at the operating point of the aggregate waste separator was evaluated through flow analysis assuming recycled aggregate and waste sample as particles. As a result of the performance test, when the distance. between the conveyor belt and the inlet was 0.2m, the classification efficiency was 95%, but the misclassification rate of recycled aggregate was 2% or more, which satisfies the classification efficiency and the misclassification rate of less than 2%. The operating point was shown at a control frequency of 58Hz at a suction distance of 0.254m. As a resu lt of flow analysis, there was no misclassification of recycled aggregate. In order to redu ce constru ction waste in the existing recycled aggregate production process, adsorption system using a rotating separating net that can be operated as an installation type was built.

Plastic wastes generated from domestic waste are separated by mixed discharge with foreign substances, and the cost of the separation and screening process increases, so recycling is relatively low. In this study, as a fundamental study for recycling mixed plastic wastes generated from domestic waste into concrete aggregates, changes in concrete properties according to the plastic waste types and the substitution rate were evaluated experimentally. The mixed plastic waste aggregate(MPWA) was found to have a lower density and a higher absorption rate compared to the coarse aggregate with good particle size distribution. On the other hand, the single plastic waste aggregate(SPWA) was composed of particles of uniform size, and both the density and the absorption rate were lower than that of the fin e aggregate. It was found that the MPWA substitution concrete did not cause a material separation phenomenon due to a relatively good particle size distribution even with the largest amount of plastic waste substitution, and the amount of air flow increased little. The compressive strength and flexural strength of the PWA substitution concrete decreased as the amount of substitution of the PWA increased due to the low strength of the PWA, the suppression of the cement hydration reaction due to hydrophobicity, and the low adhesion between the PWA and the cement paste. It was found that the degree of deterioration in compressive strength and flexural strength of concrete substituted with MPWA having good particle size distribution was relatively small.
