Structural Evaluation of the 300 Ton Goliath Crane (골리앗 크레인의 구조안정성 검증)

  • Structural analysis and evaluation for the 300ton Goliath Crane were conducted with an FEM tool. The Golliath Crane has a 300 ton hoisting weight, a 110 m span and a 50 m lift. All loads such as the self weight, crane traveling load, trolley traveling load, wind load, and earthquake force, etc., that are indicat in the reference standards, were inputted as various severe conditions affecting the crane. The deformation and equivalent stress (von Mises stress) were evaluated for the crane structures.

  • 본 논문에서는 선체 블록의 운반 작업 중 발생하는 동적 하중 및 골리앗 크레인의 와이어로프와 선체블록 간의 동적 접촉력을 고려한 최적 러그 배치 시스템을 설계하고, 다물체계 동역학 커널과 외력 계산커널을 개발하였다. 다물체계 동역학 커널은 recursive formulation을 이용하여 운동 방정식을 구성하고, 외력 계산 커널은 비선형 유체정역학적 힘, 선형 유체동역학적 힘, 풍력, 계류력을 계산할 수 있다. 이를 이용해 블록에 작용하는 와이어로프와 블록 간의 간섭과 동적 접촉력을 계산하고, 그 결과를 이용하여 러그가 부착된 블록의 구조 해석을 수행하였다.

  • In this study, dynamic load and dynamic contact force between a building block and wire ropes of a goliath crane are calculated during lifting or turn-over of a building block for the design of an optimal lug arrangement system. In addition, a multibody dynamics kernel for implementing the system were developed. In the multibody dynamics kernel, the equations of motion are constructed using recursive formulation. To evaluate the applicability of the developed kernels, the interferences and dynamic contact force between the building block and wire ropes were calculated and then the hull structural analysis for the block was performed using the calculation result.

Block Lifting Analysis to Examine the Cause of Cracking in the Hopper Top Plate (블록 리프팅 시 Hopper Tank부 균열 발생 가능성 검토를 위한 구조해석)

  • With the fast growth of the shipbuilding industry, the number of lifting lugs used every year has reached onehundred. This paper is aimed at examining the cause of cracking in the hopper top plate, due to block lifting. First of all, we have investigated the fracture surface in the occurrence position of the crack of the hopper top plate, using the scanning electron microscope. In this study, we have evaluated the structural strength for COT super block under present lifting conditions. For this purpose, the equivalent stresses have been calculated by linear elastic analysis, using the finite element program ABAQUS.

Optimal Block Lifting Scheduling Considering the Minimization of Travel Distance at an Idle State and Wire Replacement of a Goliath Crane (골리앗 크레인의 공주행 거리와 와이어 교체 최소를 고려한 최적 블록 리프팅 계획)

  • Recently, a shipyard is making every effort to efficiently manage equipments of resources such as a gantry crane, transporter, and so on. So far block lifting scheduling of a gantry crane has been manually performed by a manager of the shipyard, and thus it took much time to get scheduling results and moreover the quality of them was not optimal. To improve this, a block lifting scheduling system of the gantry crane using optimization techniques was developed in this study. First, a block lifting scheduling problem was mathematically formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem, considering the minimization of travel distance at an idle state and wire replacement during block lifting. Then, to solve the problem, a meta-heuristic optimization algorithm based on the genetic algorithm was proposed. To evaluate the efficiency and applicability of the developed system, it was applied to an actual block lifting scheduling problem of the shipyard. The result shows that blocks can be efficiently lifted by the gantry crane using the developed system, compared to manual scheduling by a manager.
