An experimental study is carried out to study two-phase vertically upward hydraulic transport of solid particles by water in a vertical and inclined (0${\sim}$60 degree) concentric annulus with rotation of the inner cylinder. Rheology of particulate suspensions in shear-thinning fluids is of importance in many applications such as particle removal from surfaces, transport of proppants in fractured reservoir and cleaning of drilling holes, and so on. Annular fluid velocities varied from 0.2 m/s to 1.5 m/s for the actual drilling operational condition. Macroscopic behavior of solid particles, averaged flow rate, and particle rising velocity are observed. Main parameters considered in this study were radius ratio, inner-pipe rotary speed, fluid flow regime, and particle injection rate. For both water and CMC solutions, the higher the concentration of the solid particles is, the larger the pressure gradients become
An experimental study was carried out to study the solid-liquid mixture upward flow in a vertical and inclined annulus with rotating inner cylinder. Lift forces acting on a fluidized particle plays a central role in many importance applications, such as the removal of drill cuttings in horizontal drill holes, sand transport in fractured reservoirs, sediment transport and cleaning of particles from surfaces, etc. Field measurements have revealed that the pressure drop over a borehole during drilling of a slim oil well or a well with a long reach can depend significantly on the rotation speed of the drill pipe. An accurate prediction of the annular frictional pressure drop is therefore important for conditions where the annular clearance is small. Effect of annulus inclination and drill pipe rotation on the carrying capacity of drilling fluid, particle rising velocity, and pressure drop in the slim hole annulus have been measured for fully developed flows of water and of aqueous solutions.

An experimental investigation is conducted to study a 2-phase vertically upward hydraulic transport of solid particles by water and non-Newtonian fluids in a slim hole concentric annulus with rotation of the inner cylinder. Rheology of particulate suspensions in viscoelastic fluids is of importance in many applications such as particle removal from surfaces, transport of proppants in fractured reservoir and cleaning of drilling holes, etc. In this study, a clear acrylic pipe was used in order to observe the movement of solid particles. Annular velocities varied from 0.3 m/s to 2.0 m/s. The mud systems included fresh water and CMC solutions. Main parameters considered in the study were inner-pipe rotation speed, fluid flow regime and particle injection rate. A particle rising velocity and pressure drop in annulus have been measured for fully developed flows of water and of aqueous solutions. For both water and 0.2% CMC solutions, the higher the concentration of the solid particles is, the larger the pressure gradients become.
The flow pattern and the solid-liquid mass transfer coefficient in figure-eight shaking vessels were observed by experimental method. The flow patterns, mixing time, power consumption and mass transfer coefficient in the figureeight shaking vessels changed irregularly with increase in the shaking frequency. Any frequency, even in the Fr = 0.095 or more became clear experimentally. The region of the optimum operating condition of the figure-eight shaking was larger than that of the reciprocal shaking. The solid-liquid mass transfer coefficient was correlated with the same correlation as that of the rotary shaking vessel of existing. The gas-liquid mass transfer coefficient of the figure-eight shaking vessel was also correlated with the same type of correlation as that of the rotary shaking vessel of existing.

A new process, gelcasting in aqueous medium, to fabricate complex-shaped ceramic core has investigated. The ceramic slurry, mixture of fused silica powder and additives such as zircon and cordierite, was electrosterically stabilizes. The slip was prepared by ball milling of polydispered ceramic suspension with monomer, dimer and dispersant. The rheological behavior of slip was evaluated by viscosity measurement. It was found that the high solid loading of polydispersed ceramic slip, which has low viscosity of 50vol%, is possible to obtained. The viscosity of the slip was significantly dependent upon the amount of polymer dispersant and the formulation of monomer and dimer. The green bodies were fabricated through casting and gelation at room temperature followed by drying at $25^{\circ}C$ for 48hrs under relative humidity of 80~85%. Crack-free green body was successfully fabricated through the above process.
Batch and column tests were performed to develop the design factors for permeable reactive barriers(PRBs) against the contaminated groundwater with ammonium from unsanitary landfill. Clinoptilolite, one of natural zeolites having excellent cation exchange capacity(CEC), was chosen as the reactive material. In batch test, the reactivity of clinoptilolite to ammonium was examined by varying the initial concentration of ammonium and the particle size of clinoptilolites. One gram of clinoptilolite showed removal efficiency about 80% against the ammonium except in very high initial concentration of 80 ppm, but the effect of particle size of clinoptilolite was not noticeable. Permeability test was performed for the specimens made of clinoptilolite and Jumunjin sand with 20 : 80 weight ratio. Flexible wall permeameter was employed far permeability test. The specimen containing the washed 0.42-0.85mm clinoptilolite showed the highest permeability of about $10^{-3}$/s. In column test, the reactivity of mixed materials against ammonium in flowing condition was examined with the landfill leachate. With the test results, clinoptilolite was found to be a suitable material for PRBs against the contaminated groundwater with ammonium.
This study carried out a series of experiments involving impact tests (Drop Weight type & Charpy type with a standard specimen and newly designed I-type specimen), hardness tests, and fracture surface observations of French-made roll shell steel (F), abnormal roll shell steel (M), reheated roll shell steel (R), and S25C steel under heat treatment conditiAn experimental study was carried out to study the solid-liquid mixture upward hydraulic transport of solid particles in vertical and inclined annuli with a rotating inner cylinder. Annular velocities varied from 0.4 to 1.2 m/s. The rotation of the inner cylinder was efficient at carrying particles to some degree. For a higher particle volume concentration, the hydraulic pressure loss of the mixture flow increased because of the friction between the wall and solids or between solids.

The characteristics of supercritical water oxidation have been studied to decompose the waste anionic exchange resins which were produced from a power plant. The waste resins from a power plant were mixture of anionic and cationic exchange resins. The waste anionic exchange resins had been separated from the waste resins using a solid-liquid fluidized bed. It was confirmed that the cationic exchange resins were not included in the separated anionic exchange resins by the elemental and thermogravimetric analysis. A slurry of anionic exchange resins which could be fed continuously to a supercritical water oxidation apparatus by a high pressure pump was prepared using a wet ball mill. Although the COD of liquid effluent had been reduced more than 99.9% at 25.0 MPa and $500^{\circ}C$ within 2 min, the total nitrogen content was reduced only 41%. The addition of nitric acid to the slurry could reduce the total nitrogen content in treated water. The central composite design as a statistical desist of experiments had been applied to optimize the conditions of decomposing anionic resin slurry by means of the COD and total nitrogen contents in treated waters as the key process output variables. The COD values of treated waters had been reduced sufficiently to $99.9{\sim}100%$ af the reaction conditions of $500{\sim}540^{\circ}C$, 25.0 MPa within 2 min. The effects of temperature and nitric acid concentration on COD were not significant. However, the effect of nitric acid concentration on the total nitrogen was found to be significant. The regression equation for the total nitrogen had been obtained with nitric acid concentration and the coefficient of determination($r^2$) was 95.8%.
