Studies on wet polishing characteristic of rice (습식연미 도정특성에 관한 연구)

  • Series of study were conducted to investigated the condition of wet polishing and quality of wet polished rice. The optimal condition for wet polishing was determined to be 0.5% added water after removal bran layer of 95% by normal milling. Its polishing yield was 0.75% lower than normal polishing, and the moisture content of wet and normal polished rice was the same, but the whiteness of wet polished rice was higher by 3.5% than that of normal polished rice and the lightness was very good. The total solid as washing wet polished rice in water and the total solid in residual liquid of cooked wet polished rice was about 0.30 and 2% lower than those of normal polished rice, respectively. The storability of wet polished rice was better than that of normal polished rice.

  • This study was carried out to estimate the change of Hg content in contaminated food materials including rice grain, soybean sprouts and crucian carp during their washing and cooking processes. The residue level of Hg in contaminated rice at 1 ppm level was decreased to the extent of 24% by three-times washing whereas it was not decreased in cooking. The removal efficiency of Hg in soybean sprouts contaminated at 80 ppm level was about 26% in three-times washing. While the Hg content was not decreased in blanching or cooking of soybean sprouts as a whole, the extent of leached Hg into the fluid part varied in the range of 23-41% depending on the heating time, salinity and volume of cooking water. While the Hg content in fish contaminated at 1 ppm level was not decreased in cooking as a whole, the leaching ratio of Hg into the fluid part was in the range of 2-10% depending on the salinity of cooking water. Disposal of inedible portion in cooked fish could remove 32% of contaminated Hg residue.

  • The converter slag can be used to remove phosphate ion into the form of solid state from the wastewater. This research aims to evaluate the change of pH, alkalinity, leaching of positive ion in the wastewater and the removal of phosphate from the initial condition of wastewater. The change of pH was abruptly increased upto pH 11 for the initial condition of pH from 7.0 to 8.5 fer 0.5 unit of pH. The alkalinity was steadily increased from 10 hours of reaction time not same as pH increase. The removal of phosphate was very effective till 10 hours of reaction then it was slow after that time. The positive ion, magnesium ion was leached from the concentration of 2.0 mg/L to 4.3mg/L at the reaction time of 27 hours and 36 hours. Therefore, converter slag can be used to remove the phosphate in the form of Struvite from the wastewater.

  • 하수처리장의 침전지 구조물은 고형물(SS) 및 현탁물을 침전, 제거하여 하수의 정화를 도모하는 시설로 초기 유입 하수의 생물학적 처리로 인해 발생되는 슬러지와 처리수를 분리함에 그 목적을 두고 있다. 침전지 구조물은 장소의 제약 및 침전지의 효율성 측면에서 많은 공법이 제안되고 있으며, 그중 이층 침전지의 경우 구조물의 시공비용 절감 및 공간 활용측면에서 단층 침전지에 비해 우수성을 인정받고 있다. 하지만 상 하 층에 위치하고 있는 침전지 유입부의 위치적 특성으로 인해 균등한 유량의 분배가 이루어지지 않고 유량이 한곳에 집중되는 현상으로 보일 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 3차원 수치모형인 FLOW-3D를 이용하여 이층 침전지의 유량분배 최적화를 위한 설계인자를 도출 하였다. 특히 상 하층에 위치하고 있는 유입부의 위치적인 특성을 고려하여 유입부의 직경을 상층 $500mm{\sim}600mm$, 하층 $500mm{\sim}700mm$으로 변화시키며 수치모의를 수행하였으며, 유입량의 분배효과를 확인하기 위해 각 동일한 위치에서 유입량을 산정하였다. 각 케이스별 분배효과를 분석한 결과 상 하층의 유입부 직경을 상층 600mm 와 하층 700mm를 적용했을 경우 유입량의 표준편차가 가장 작게 발생하며, 침전지 내부의 흐름이 원활하게 이루어지는 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구에서는 상용 CFD모형인 FLOW-3D를 계획 중인 H하수처리장의 이층 침전지 설계에 적용하였으며 유입부 직경에 따른 분배효과를 분석하였다.

Removing Resin Contaminants from the Seated Stone Buddha (Korean Treasure No.84) of Sinboksa Temple Site in Gangneung (강릉 신복사지 석조보살좌상 보물 제84호 수지상 오염물 제거 방안 연구)

  • The face of the Seated Stone Buddha Korean Treasure No.84 of Sinboksa Templesite in Gangneung was contaminated with a glossy resin, spoiling its beauty. The contaminants covered the face, the forehead of the urna, to the bottom of the jaw. FT-IR analysis on a sample of the contaminants identified the substance as cyanoacrylate instant adhesive, which can normally be melted with acetone and removed with a swab. However, given that the surface of the statue was severely weathered from prolonged open-air exposure, alternative removal procedures were considered, to minimize the possibility of physical damage. After research, two removal procedures were utilized: one procedure involving poultices, which had been used to remove graffiti from the Samjeondobi Stele, and one procedure involving steam sterilization, which has been used to remove resin from pottery and porcelain. When both the poultices and steam sterilization were applied together, the resin was removed within twenty-four hours, without physical work using a swab.

Pre-treatment Characteristics of Night Soil by Microbubble (마이크로버블을 이용한 분뇨의 전처리 특성)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of OH radicals on organic matter oxidation and suspended solids removal using microbubble as a pre-treatment technique to reduce the organic load of night soil in connection with sewage. The experiment was conducted for three months at HRT 4 hours using pressurized type microbubble generator. The mean SS removal efficiency was achieved 71%. The average removal efficiency of $TCOD_{Cr}$, TBOD, TN and TP were achieved for 51.5%, 47.9%, and 14.7% respectively, as scum and SS were removed by flotation separation. The removal efficiency of soluble organic matters were 25.0%, 17.1% for $SCOD_{Cr}$, SBOD by air microbubble supply. Soluble nitrogen and phosphorus were removed average of 11.9% and 7.4%, respectively. As s result, it was confirmed that soluble organic matters were removed by air microbubble supplied. Generated OH radicals when the microbubble was collapsed, can decompose the soluble organic matters. Therefore, The microbubble flotation process was installed at the front of night soil treatment process, it will contribute to the stable operation of the subsequent biological treatment facility by oxidation of the dissolved organic matters as well as removal of SS by flotation separation.

Factors Influencing the Removal of Water Soluble Solids from Soybean Curd Whey by Reverse Osmosis (역삼투법을 이용한 두부순물의 가용성 물질 제거에 관한 연구)

  • The effects of membrane type, temperature and pH on the permeate flux and removal of soluble solids from soybean curd whey by reverse osmosis were studied at recommended pressures for optimum performance of the membranes. The fluxes obtained with HR 95 and HR 98 membranes at 60 bar were not lower than that with CA 930 membrane at 20 bar. Soluble solid content in the permeate increased to 1.5 Brix after 90 min by CA 930 membrane, as opposed to 0 Brix with the HR 95 and HR 98 membranes. Permeate flux was increased by 28.4% as operation temperature increased from $30^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$. COD of the whey was rejected up to 80.5%, 99.7% and 99.5% by using the membranes of CA 930, HR 95 and HR 98, respectively. pH adjustment of the whey resulted in decreasing membrane performance. But the rejection rate of COD in permeate with HR 98 membrane was slightly increased to 99.9% when the pH was adjusted to 7.0.

  • The behavior of the biological water treatment process on start-up operation was evaluated in the integrated recirculating aquaculture system consisting of a double drain type rearing tank ($2.5 m^3$), a sedimentation tank, a floating bead filter, a foam separator and a rotating biological contactor. A system was stocked with nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) at an initial rearing density of $2\%$ for 2 weeks for acclimated rotating biological contactor. The total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) level increased to $13.6 g/m^3$ on day 4 after adding feed and was decreased to $0.3 g/m^3$ on day 7. The total suspended solid was completely removed during overall experimental period.

Changes in the Cadmium and Lead Contents of Rice and Wheat Flour during their Cooking and Processing (쌀과 밀가루의 조리가공(調理加工)중 카드뮴 및 납 함량(含量)의 변화)

  • This study was undertaken to investigate the removal efficiency of heavy metals (Cd, Pb) in rice and wheat flour by cooking and processing. After four times washing of rice grains with water, the removal ratios of cadmium and lead from artificially-contaminated samples were 39.271 and 34.9%, respectively. In cookingof rice grains washed three-times with water, the residue levels of cadmium and lead decreased to 85.7%, 83.0% in electric rice cooker and 74.51%, 72.6% in pressure rice cooker, respectively. No significant difference was observed in the removal of the metals between naturally-contaminated and artificially contaminated rice samples, and between the electric and pressure rice cookers. In baking of artificially-contaminated wheat flour into cookie and loaf bread, the removal ratios of cadmium and lead were negligible as expected. When knife-cut noodle was made from artificially-contaminated wheat flour and boiled in water, 75% of the metals were found in the noodle solids and only 25% of them were removed into the broth.

  • An experimental research was performed employing the two stage anaerobic digestion of the mixture of the nightsoil and septic tank sludge to determine the effects of various hydraulic retention time of the digestion on chemical characteristics and treatment effeciency, thus determining the proper retention time. Results of the research are as follows, 1. Volatile-acid decreased as HRT increased. 2. Alklinity and ammonia-N tended to increase as HRT increased as did pH values, however, were observed to be constant at higher HRT values than 15 days. 3. The removal efficiencies of TBOD, TCOD and VS increased as HRT increased. 4. The removal efficiency of volatile solid decreased as VS loading increased. 5. It was observed that the rates of gas production were: 0.33 with HRT of 5 days, 0.58 with HRT of 15 days and $0.57m^3/kg$ VS fed/day with HRT of 25 days respectively. It is believed that the highest rate of gas production was at HRT of 15 days. 6. The sludge settling experiment showed that the minimum settling time required to ensure the desired underflow concentraton was estimated to be 8.6 days.
