  • This paper examines whether and how much vocational training raises an individual's earnings in Korea, using the Economically Active Population Survey. To overcome endogeneity of training, we apply fixed-effects and propensity-score matching (PSM) methods. Fixed-effects (PSM) results suggest that work-related training received in the previous one year increases a worker's monthly earnings by 2.6 to 4.7 (7.5 to 9.8) percent. Taken altogether, work-related training enhances a worker's earnings by a minimum of 2.6 and a maximum of 9.8 percent in Korea.

  • We analyze the performance of South Korea wholesalers and retailers during the period when COVID-19 emerged and began to spread in South Korea. Specifically, we choose operational efficiency as a proxy variable for reflecting corporate performance and apply stochastic frontier analysis for estimating operational efficiency. Importantly, in order to examine the impact of the COVID-19 period (Q1 to Q2 2020) on operational efficiency, we consider the quarterly fixed effect corresponding to the COVID-19 period. Our findings include: (ⅰ) the average level of operational ffficiency is approximately 0.7138 during the analysis period (Q1 2019 to Q2 2020); (ⅱ) the fixed effect of the COVID-19 period on operational efficiency is not significant; and (ⅲ) operational efficiency is positively correlated with the scale of the company. Moreover, from an academic perspective, we make a contribution by examining the relationship between the operational efficiency as a firm-level variable and the COVID-19 period as a macroeconomic variable.

  • The notable findings are as follow: First, men show higher level of perceiving open marriage, sex-role, acceptance of extra-marital relationship and intention of extra-marital sex than that of women. Second, the effects of men's perception of sex-role and open marriage, and the acceptance of extra-marital relationship have direct effects on their intention of extra-marital sex. The acceptance of extra-marital relationship shows the mediation effect on the path between that of open marriage and extra-marital sex among men. However, men's perception of sex-role does not affect the acceptance of extra-marital relationship. Lastly, women's perception of sex-role and open marriage, and the acceptance of extra-marital relationship directly influence the intention of extra-marital sex each, including the mediating effect of accepting extra-marital relationship between that of open marriage and extra-marital sex which are similar to the men's trend. Women's perception of sex-role show the direct effect on the acceptance of extra-marital relationship unlike man's trend. Therefore, the fact demonstrates that the effect of perceiving of sex-role on the intention of extra-marital sex is different according to gender. Some practical and political implications are discussed based on the study's findings.

  • Previous studies show that tall people have better labor market outcomes, but controlling for their abilities reduces the size of height effects. This implies that a failure to properly control for one's ability could overestimate the OLS estimate. This paper contributes to the literature by being the first to control for individual fixed effects (FE) and to examine height effects on the probability of one's attaining a leadership position. The data used are panel data of a cohort obtained during the cohort's middle and high school years. In OLS estimation, this paper finds positive height effects for boys. However, when controlling for individual fixed effects, the estimate is not statistically significant. For girls, the height effects are found on neither OLS nor FE model.

  • This paper proposes a hybrid independent component analysis(ICA) of fixed-point(FP) algorithm and robust algorithm. The FP algorithm is applied for improving the analysis speed and performance, and the robust algorithm is applied for preventing performance degradations by means of very small kurtosis and temporal correlations between components. And the adaptive adaptation of temporal correlations has been proposed for solving limits of the conventional robust algorithm dependent on the maximum time delay. The proposed ICA has been applied to the problems for separating the 4-mixed signals of 500 samples and 10-mixed images of $512\times512$pixels, respectively. The experimental results show that the proposed ICA has a characteristics of adaptively adapting the maximum time delay, and has a superior separation performances(speed, rate) to conventional FP-ICA and hybrid ICA of heuristic correlation. Especially, the proposed ICA gives the larger degree of improvement as the problem size increases.

  • EU and NAFTA which are huge regional economic blocs came out the world economy at the end of the twentieth century. It is the first that Europe has been trying to establish regional economic integration which is a revolutionary change to world economy. So that regional economic integration of Europe(European Union) has been improving to make a complete economic political integration. This paper analyzes trade creation effect for joining European Union(EU) of Central Eastern European countries with random effect estimation and fixed effect estimation. 12 Central Eastern European countries have become membership states of EU since 2004 is able to get 27.4% of trade increase effect on average between old and new membership countries one another as well as between new membership countries one another respectively. It is very important for some countries have a plan to affiliate to EU in the future to realize such a big effect if they are in.

  • In this paper, we analyse empirically the fixed asset investment smoothing of working capital of firms listed on Korea Securities Market. The main results of this study can be summarized as follows. Firms will seek to lower long-term cost by smoothing fixed asset investment and maintaining stationary investment with working capital. Working capital is not only an important use of fund, but also a source of liquidity that should be used to smooth fixed asset investment relative to cash flow shocks if firms face financial constraints. Working capital investment is more sensitive than fixed asset investment to cash flow fluctuations. If firms face financial constraints, working capital investment will compete with fixed asset investment for the limited pool of available cash flows. So, fixed asset investment will have negative relationship with working capital investment. However, criticism that the positive correlation between cash flows and fixed asset investment could arise simply because cash flows is proxy variable for investment demand. Finally, controlling for the fixed asset investment smoothing effects of working capital results in a much larger estimate of the long run impact of financial constraints. Financial constraints is measured by dividend payout ratio and market access level. Fazzari et al. (1988), Fazzari and Petersen (1993), and Faulkender et al. (2008) emphasize that low dividend firms or market unaccessible firms are more likely to face financial constraints, and rarely make use of new equity issuing. The results from empirical analysis show that financial constraints can be better explained using 'adjustment cost' concept. Specifically, the results show that financial constraints exist and that in order to measure financial constraint effects more succinctly, fixed asset investment smoothing effects with working capital should be considered.

  • This study is about university students' perception of intergenerational communication and its affecting factors. Based on literatures on intergenerational communication, the effect of stereotype on intergenerational satisfaction was testified and the mediating role of intergroup anxiety and the moderating role of communication competence were also analysed. Results showed that the effect of stereotype was mediated by intergroup anxiety, and the paths were different depending on the gender and communication competence. In the case of the male student group and the group with high communication ability, stereotypes affected intergroup anxiety, but intergroup anxiety did not directly affect intergenerational communication satisfaction. On the other hand, in the case of the female student group and the group with low communication skills, intergroup anxiety had significant effect on communication satisfaction. Also, it was found that the content of stereotype had an important effect on intergenerational communication satisfaction.

  • The Eurozone was launched to set a goal on using the single currency perfectly in 1999. Using the Euro could get rid of exchange cost and cost of Foreign exchange risk management which was approximately 1% of each member's GDP. It was possible that members has maintained a stable level of inflation and stimulate investment and employment with low interest rate. In addition, they could lead to economic growth and investment as well as increase the Euro demand in financial market. Especially, members has used the Euro as the method of payment on trade each other so that the volume of trade among the Eurozone members has increased continuously which was called "the effect of single market." This paper analyzes the correlation between using the Euro and members' export/import by using random effect estimation and fixed effect estimation. As a result, Eurozone members can get export decreasing effect of 4.68% and import increasing effect of 10.5% respectively on average by using the Euro.
