In 2007, 9,128 fires were actually caused by electrical faults and these fires resulted in 29 deaths and 262 injuries. Arc-faults were one of the major causes of these fires. When an unintended arc-fault occurs, it generates intense heat that can easily ignite surrounding combustibles. But, because conventional circuit breakers only respond to overloads, short circuits, and leakage currents, the breakers do not protect against arcing conditions. This paper presents results obtained in experiments on ignition behavior of wire by series arc fault currents and techniques developed to detect the arc-faults. The developed technique was tested after installation to make sure that they are working properly and protecting the circuit. If the developed arc fault detection technique is applied, the electrical fires caused by an arc-fault can be reduced.

In the IoT(internet of things) where various devices can be connected, failure of essential devices may lead to a lot of economic and life losses. For reducing the losses, fault diagnosis techniques have been considered an essential part of IoT. In this paper, the method based on a graph neural network is proposed for determining fault and classifying types by extracting features from vibration data of systems. For training of the deep learning model, fault dataset are used as input data obtained from the CWRU(case western reserve university). To validate the classification performance of the proposed model, a conventional CNN(convolutional neural networks)-based fault classification model is compared with the proposed model. From the simulation results, it was confirmed that the classification performance of the proposed model outweighed the conventional model by up to 5% in the unevenly distributed data. The classification runtime can be improved by lightweight the proposed model in future works.

The offshore plant structure has been transported to the site by barge because it is hard to manufacture in site. When the structure was transported on the sea, offshore plant structures and connection were experienced repetitive submarine load. For this reason, it was known for that the axial force of high-strength bolted connection was declined. Therefore, in this study, high-strength bolted connection was evaluated the shear fatigue performance under longtime fatigue load during marine transport. The experimental variables were selected intial axial force, surface type, and bolt type because they ar important factors in the change of axial force of bolts. As a experimental results of considering various variables, the variation of axial force showed within 1%. Therefore, the high-strength bolted connection was verified structural safety under longtime fatigue load.

This paper proposes a faulty node detection scheme that performs collective monitoring of a distributed networked control systems using interval weighting factor. The algorithm is designed to observe every node's behavior collectively based on the pseudo-random Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) code. Each node sends a single BCH bit simultaneously as a replacement for the cyclic redundancy check (CRC) code. The fault judgement is performed by performing sequential check of observed detected error to guarantee detection accuracy. This scheme can be used for detecting and preventing serious damage caused by node failure. Simulation results show that the fault judgement based on decision pattern gives comprehensive summary of suspected faulty node.

This paper, following the shape parameters of the minimax distribution, describes the special form of the beta distribution, the Minimax distribution, as a function of the shape parameters for the software reliability model based on the non-homogeneous Poisson process. Characteristics and usefulness were discussed. As a result, the case of the shape parameter 1 of Minimax distribution than less than and greate in mean squared error is the smallest, in determination coefficient, appears to be high, the shape parameter 1 of Minimax distribution regard as an efficient model. The estimated determination coefficient of the proposed model is estimated to be more than 95%, which is a useful model in the field of software reliability. Through this study, software design and users can identify the software failure characteristics using mean square error, decision coefficient, and confidence interval can be used as a basic guideline.

Even the rough prediction of the product test time before the lifetime test of mechanical component begins would be of use in estimating cost and deciding how to keep up with the test. The reliability predictions of mechanical components are difficult because failure or degradation mechanisms are complicated, and few plausible databases are available for lifetime prediction. Therefore, this study conducted lifetime predictions of elastomeric U seals that were respectively installed in a hydraulic actuator and a pneumatic actuator using lifetime models and a field database based on failure physics and an actual test database obtained from the NSWC handbook. To validate the results, the predicted failure rates were compared with the actual lifetime test results acquired in the lab durability tests. Finally, this study discussed an engineering procedure to determine the coefficients in the failure rate models and analyzed the sensitivity of each influential parameter on the seal lifetime.
Due to the electrification of railways, fault at the traction line is increasing year by year. So importance of the fault locator is growing higher. Nevertheless at the field traction line, it is difficult to locate accurate fault point due to various conditions. In this paper railway feeding system current loop equation was simplified and generalized though measured data. And substation, train power data were measured under synchronized condition. Finally catenary impedance was predicted through generalized equation. Also simulation model was designed to figure out the effect of load current for train at same location. Train current was changed from min to max range and catenary impedance was compared at same location. Finally, power measurement was performed in the field at train and substation simultaneously and catenary system impedance was predicted and calculated. Through this method catenary impedance can be measured more easily and continuously compared to the past method.

The use of steel plates has been greatly increased in bridge construction, particularly for long-span bridges. For connections of those steel plates in the field, application of high-tension bold, such as M30, is highly demanded. However, the current steel construction specifications in Korea do not provide information for large-sized bolt connections. In order to evaluate the applicability of the large-sized high-tension bolt, this study experimentally investigates relaxation and slip behavior of M30 bolts with varying bolt size and plate thickness. In addition, internal compressive stress was computed using FEM analysis. The analyzed results were compared with the stress distribution measured from strain gages attached on bolts and bolt holes. From the study presented herein, the M30 high-tension bolts are anticipated to be successfully used with the relaxation less than 10% and the slip coefficient satisfying the specified limit.

Friction type high tension bolted joints is one of the most common steel structure connections and requires significant concerns on axial force of the bolts. However, its high shear capacity is not appropriately considered in design and hence the number of bolts is over-designed than actually required. It is primarily due to a slip-load-based design method. This study, therefore, suggests a new technology of connection using a shear ring, which may reduce the shortcomings from the friction-typed high tension bolted joints and maximize the advantages from the bearing-typed joints. Experimental and numerical studies were performed to compare the capacity of the suggested method with traditional high tension bolted joints. From the results, it is known that the suggested connections has higher bearing capacity than friction-typed high tension bolted joints due to the higher shear resistance from the ring. For further study, it may be necessary to investigate on design parameters including the depth of shear ring, for increased connection capacity.
