The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of visual rhythmic stimulation in gait ability and proprioception in chronic stroke patients. Twenty-one persons after six months post stroke participated in pre and post test control. The subjects were randomly assigned to a rhythmic visual stimulation(RVS) group (n=10) and control group (n=11). Training process was practiced with exercise on thirty minutes a day, three days a week for four weeks. To find out the effect, inspected the proprioception test and gait characteristics by gait analysis. In gait characteristics, the walking speed, cadence and the TUG time were significantly different from RVS group. The proprioception were significantly different RVS and control group. This study showed that the RVS training increased better functional activity by postural adjustment and gait learning of chronic stroke patients than that of control group. And so, the RVS training of hemiplegic patients was very important to successive rehabilitation. A continuous examination of RVS training could be practical use of physical therapy with exercise.
Purpose: This study evaluates the effectiveness of intermittent exotropia vision training through follow up of average 3 years using proprioceptive test (Maindot test). Methods: 35 people (18 men, 17 women) with mean age of 13.48 (${\pm}2.45$) with corrected visual acuity of 0.9 or higher and normal binocular vision and control were observed for changes between before, after, and 3 years following the vision training during the period from 2005 to 2009. Results: After training, the correlation between the changed amount of deviation and PRC(diplopia) value and symptoms was not significant (p>0.05). However, it showed a statistically significant (p<0.001) correlation that change of the binocular proprioceptive sense abilities is decreased subjective symptoms. Conclusions: Binocular proprioceptive sense may be used in variety of purposes and applications such as predictive evaluation of binocular symptoms, binocular function performance evaluation after vision training and prism treatment.
Purpose: We evaluated the clinical results of arthroscopic ACL reconstruction using quadrupled hamstring tendon with tibial remnant-preserving technique. Materials and Methods: Thirty-five cases were evaluated from Feb, 2003 to May, 2006. The average interval from injury to surgery was $2.6{\pm}1.6$ months. The cause of injury was mostly sports-related trauma. The average follow-up period was 17 months. Tibial remnant was preserved as much as possible and caution was taken not to damage the remnant during ACL reconstruction. Postoperative rehabilitation was the same as the usual rehabilitation method after ACL reconstruction, except for delaying motion for 2 weeks with an extension locking brace. Clinical evaluation was performed using ROM; Lachman test; pivot-shift test; anterior displacement measurement using KT-2000 arthrometer; Lysholm score and proprioception measured by single limb standing test. Results: There was no limitation of knee motion without contracture. The Lachman test and pivot-shift test were both negative. The side-to-side difference of anterior displacement measured using KT-2000 arthrometer was improved from 6.7 mm to 2.2 mm. The average Lysholm score improved from 81 to 96. The single limb standing test for proprioceptive evaluation showed no significant difference from a normal leg. Conclusion: ACL reconstruction with tibial remnant-preserving technique can preserve mechanoreceptors with prorioception and expect good functional recovery.

This research was conducted to see the correlation between changes of ankle Joint Position Sense and Sway Area through Unstable Surface training. For the study, 48 healthy males and females were randomly divided into an unstable surface group(n=24) and a stable surface group(n=24). Then, they were asked to carry out the same exercise program three times a week for six weeks. The unstable surface group and stable surface group performed the exercise program on the balance exercise pad and on the hard ground, respectively. As a result, the unstable surface group displayed significantly reduced error of ankle joint position sense and sway area(p<.05). Moreover, a significant correlation between variances of ankle joint position sense and sway area was only found in the unstable surface group. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that there was a significant correlation between changes of ankle joint position sense and sway area through proprioceptive sense training on the unstable surface.

This study was undertaken to determine the effects of SNAGs (sustained natural apophyseal glides) and visual convergence biofeedback on the proprioception and neck disability of patients with chronic neck dysfunction. A total of 31 patients with neck dysfunction were assigned to either SNAGs (n = 16) or biofeedback (n = 15). The groups were assessed for proprioception and neck disability, before and after the intervention. The SNAGs were performed using belt with flexion, extension and right-left rotation, whereas biofeedback training included visual feedback training with deep neck flexor. Intervention was implemented for 20 minutes, twice a week for 4 weeks. Biofeedback training a showed significant effect on the joint position sense (left and right rotation) as compared to the SNAGs group (p< 0.05), whereas neck disability index was significantly effective for SNAGs (p< 0.05). Ed. Notes: The previous statement lacked clarity. I have suggested the edit as per my understanding. Please review and revise appropriately, if required. Therefore, the SNAGs technique is effective for neck function, and biofeedback training is a positive intervention method for enhancing the proprioceptive sensation. In future studies on patients with neck pain, it may be possible to select an intervention method based on the characteristics of the disease.
This study was carried out to identify the factors which correlated with upper limb function after stroke and to analyze the effect of related factors on upper limb function. The 100 stroke patients(MMSE-K>24) were participated. The upper limb function according to gender, hand dominance, stroke type, affected location, site of paralysis, speech disorder showed no significant difference, and show significant difference according to shoulder subluxation. The upper limb muscle strength(Manual Muscle Testing), proprioception, muscle tone(Modified Ashworth Scale), grip strength(Dynamometer), paint (Visual Analog Scale) showed significant correlations with upper limb function. These predictors explained 77.6% of the upper limb function and the most significant affecting factor of upper limb function was upper limb muscle strength. In conclusion, the upper limb muscle strengthening will be effective strategy to improving the upper limb function and considering the proprioception, muscle tone, grip strength, pain, subluxation will be helpful to develop the strategies.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of scapular taping on muscle activities of the scapular rotators and anterior deltoid, ROM, shoulder pain, proprioception in subacute stroke patients. Twenty-eight patients were randomly assigned to an experimental and control groups of fourteen patients respectively. Muscle activity of upper and lower trapezius, serratus anterior, anterior deltoid was measured using surface electromyography. Visual analog scale was used for shoulder pain. Electro-Goniometry was used for shoulder elevation ROM. Assessment board was used for shoulder elevation proprioception. The muscle activity of the lower trapezius and serratus anterior increased significantly after scapular tape application (p<0.05). The AROM and PROM in the shoulder elevation significantly increased after scapular tape application (p<0.05). The VAS in the shoulder no significantly decreased after scapular tape application (p>0.05). The proprioception in the shoulder no significantly increased after scapular tape application (p>0.05). The results of this study suggest that scapular taping can be used an additional therapy for increasing muscle activity of lower trapezius and serratus anterior and ROM during shoulder elevation in subacute stroke patients.

This study examined the effects of 4-weeks of backward walking exercise on ROM, VAS (Visual Analogue Scale) score and proprioception in anterior cruciate reconstruction patients. Fourteen subjects were randomly assigned to either a backward walking group (BWG, n=7) or a control group (CON, n=7) and then participated in rehabilitation program for 4 weeks. The ROM of the flexion significantly decreased in both groups (BWG, p<0.001 vs CON, p<0.01), while ROM of extension significantly decreased only in the BWG (p<.05) post exercise, but no significant difference was observed between groups. Additionally, VAS score decreased significantly in both groups (P<0.001) and BWG was lower than CON post exercise (p<0.001). Finally, proprioception decreased significantly in both groups (BWG, p<0.001 vs CON, p<0.05), but did not differ significantly between groups. These results suggest that the 4 week backward walking rehabilitation program improves ROM, VAS score, and proprioception and has positive effects on functional recovery of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction patients.
