Effect of γ-Aminobutyric Acid and Probiotics on the Egg Quality, Blood Parameter, Stress Level in Broiler Breeder (γ-Aminobutyric Acid 및 생균제 급여가 여름철 육용 종계의 계란 품질 및 혈액 성상에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and a probiotic mixture on egg quality, blood parameters, and corticosterone content in broiler breeder stock in summer in Korea. A total of 72 broiler breeders (Arbor Acres) at 49 weeks old were randomly divided into the following three groups of 24 heads each: control, GABA, and probiotics (1 × 108/g Bacillus licheniformis, 1 × 107/g Lactiplantibacillus plantaru, and 1 × 107/g Clostridium butyricum). The hens were fed a diet containing 50 mg of GABA/kg of feed and 0.1% probiotics for 6 weeks. Egg quality, blood parameters, and stress levels (corticosterone concentration) of the broiler breeders were evaluated. No significant differences were observed in the egg weight, albumen height, Haugh units, yolk color, shell thickness, or shell strength between the groups. There were no significant between-group differences in the blood biochemical profile, including total cholesterol, triglyceride, glucose, total protein, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, albumin, and inorganic phosphorus concentrations. The corticosterone concentration was significantly lower in the GABA and probiotics groups than the control group (P < 0.05) at 6 weeks of age. In conclusion, these results suggest that dietary probiotics and GABA significantly improve the stress levels of broiler breeders in summer in Korea.

  • 킹크효과를 억제할 수 있는 새로운 f-모양 트리플게이트 구조를 가지는 다결정실리콘 박막트랜지스터는 추가적인 공정과정 없이 제안 및 제작되었다. 이러한 다결정실리콘 박막트랜지스터의 채널에는 순차적인 횡방향 고체화(Sequential Lateral Solidification, SLS)나 CW 레이져 횡방향 결정화(CW laser Lateral Crystallization, CLC) 등과 같은 방법으로 제작된 횡방향으로 성장시킨 그레인이 있다. 이 소자의 전체적인 전류흐름은 횡방향으로 성장시킨 그레인 경계에 강력하게 영향을 받는다. f-모양 트리플게이트에는 횡방향으로 성장시킨 그레인과 평행한 방향으로 위치한 채널, 그리고 수직인 방향으로 위치한 채널이 있다. 이 소자는 f-모양 게이트 구조에서의 비대칭 이동도를 이용하여 다결정실리콘 박막트랜지스터의 킹크효과를 효과적으로 억제시킬 수 있다는 사실을 실험과 시뮬레이션을 통해 검증되었다. 우리의 실험 결과는 이 논문에서 제안된 f-모양 트리플게이트 박막트랜지스터가 기존의 박막트랜지스터와 비교할 때 더 효과적으로 킹크 효과를 감소시킬 수 있다는 것을 보여주었다. 또한 고온 캐리어 스트레스 조건에서의 신뢰성도 개선할 수 있음이 확인되었다.

Development of the Wearable Personal Cooling System (착용형 개인 냉방시스템 개발)

  • This paper discusses the development of the wearable personal cooling system for reducing thermal stress in hot environment. The personal cooling system is operated with the compact refrigeration system by compressing refrigerant. The compact refrigeration system is applied with the miniaturization and weight reduction for portable and wearable cooling system. The body heat is reduced by heat conduction with evaporator in direct cooling type. The cooling capacity of the wearable personal cooling system is approximately 100W and, the system could maintain the inside temperature of approximately 12-$13^{\circ}C$ lower than the ambient temperature. The weight of the wearable cooling system is about 3kg including vest, case, battery and all parts.

애기장대의 안토시아닌 생성에 미치는 Salicylic acid 와 온도의 영향

  • SA와 온도가 애기장대의 안토시아닌 생성에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 여러 농도의 SA와 다양한 온도를 처리하여 시간적 경과에 따른 안토시아닌 함량변화와 PAL 환성을 조사하였다. 10 ${\mu}$M 이하의 SA 처리구에서는 안토시아닌 함량에 있어서 큰 변화가 없었으나 100 ${\mu}$M 이상의 처리구에서는 크게 증가하였다. 25 ${\mu}$M SA처리구에서 안토시아닌 함량이 가장 높았으며 5일째에는 약 3.3배 증가하였다. 그러나 100 ${\mu}$M의 고농도 SA 처리구에서는 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. PAL 활성은 25 ${\mu}$M SA 처리시 점차 증가하여 3일째에 가장 높은 활성을 보였다가 이후 서서히 감소하였다. 그러나 100 ${\mu}$M 이상의 SA 처리구에서는 PAL활성이 점차 감소하는 경향을 보여 주었다. 온도조건에 따라 안토시아닌 축적은 다소 차이를 보여 주었는데, 10$^{\circ}C$ 및 15$^{\circ}C$ 에서 안토시아닌 생성이 촉진되었으나, 온도가 상승함에 따라 점차 감소되어 30$^{\circ}C$의 고온에서는 현저하게 저하되었다. 따라서 본 연구결과로부터 애기장대의 안토시아닌 축적현상은 SA의 외적 처리와 온도요인에 의해 형성된 스트레스에 반응하여 유도된 것으로 추측되며 일종의 보호기능과 관련이 있음을 시사해 준다.

Study on Stability Enhancement of P-type ZnO Thin Film Properties (P-형 ZnO 박막 특성 안정성 향상에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, we investigated methods for p-type ZnO deposition as well as stability enhancement of its properties. The film was prepared by co-depositing AlAs and ZnO in a RF magnetron sputtering system. Property variation was monitored with photoluminescence and Hall measurements by stressing the films at $250^{\circ}C$ for various duration upto 144 hours. Results indicated that co-deposition is a useful method for p-type ZnO preparation. In particular, pre-treatment in 30% $H_2O_2$ for 1min was observed to be effective in reducing the property variation taking place during the subsequent high temperature processes.

  • This study was conducted to examine the potential of inducing salinity stress on cylindrical paper pot tomato seedlings to inhibit overgrowth. Potassium fertilizers, sulfate of potash (K2SO4), muriate of potash (KCl), and monopotassium phosphate (KH2PO4), were prepared as two solutions of (5 and 10) dS·m-1 salinity level, respectively, to investigate the influence on tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) seedling growth. We also investigated the adaptability and survivability of treated tomato seedlings with high-salinity potassium (10 dS·m-1 KCl) to harsh environmental conditions (water deficit, low temperature, and storage conditions). Repeated addition of high-salinity level KCl, K2SO4, or KH2PO4 markedly decreased the dry matter of shoot and root, leaf area, and net assimilate rates (NAR) but increased the stem diameter of seedlings. Among the three sources, the relative growth rate of plant height (RGRH) was most sensitive to KCl addition; increasing salinity levels of KCl solution decreased the RGRH of seedlings. The compactness, which directly reflects the stocky growth index, increased in KCl or KH2PO4 treatments. After a week's water deficit, severely wilted seedlings were observed in control seedlings (untreated with KCl), but no wilted seedlings were observed in the KCl treated seedlings, and the relative water content (RWC) of the untreated seedlings significantly decreased by 23 %, while that of the pretreated seedlings only decreased by 8 %. The increase in ion leakage of KCl treated seedlings at low temperatures was less than that of untreated seedlings. Furthermore, there was far lower damage proportion on pretreated seedlings at (9, 12, and 15)℃ storage temperatures after 20 days, compared with on unpretreated seedlings. Our results suggest that high-salinity potassium fertilizer, especially KCl, is effective in preventing tomato seedling overgrowth, while it also improves tolerance.

A Study on the Effect of Temperature-Humidity Index on the Respiration Rate, Rectal Temperature and Rumination Time of Lactating Holstein Cow in Summer Season (고온기 온습도지수가 홀스타인종 젖소 착유우의 호흡수, 직장온도 및 반추활동 시간에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • This study investigated the effects of environmental temperature and humidity on the physiological indicators such as respiratory rate, rectal temperature, and rumination time in cows. Twenty lactating Holstein cows were used for this study. The temperature/humidity index, which can be measured by the temperature and humidity of barns, was divided into three stages to distinguish the heat stress level of cows. The temperature and humidity indexes of each stage were classified into 70 ~ 75 for T1, 76 ~ 81 for T2, and 82 ~ 87 for T3, respectively. The respiratory rates per minute were 58.60 at T1, 66.12 at T2, and 84.05 at T3, respectively (P < 0.05), and the average rectal temperatures (℃) of the cows were 38.41 in T1, 38.69 in T2 and 39.05 in T3, respectively (P < 0.05). The body surface temperatures (℃) were 36.41 in T1, 36.51 in T2, and 37.39 in T3, respectively. The rumination times (minutes/day) were 473.10 in T1, 454.76 in T2, and 399.60 in T3, respectively (P < 0.05). As global warming continues to damage the dairy industry, further research is needed to improve the welfare of dairy cows and reduce their heat stress.

Effects of anatase-rutile phase transition and grain growth with WO3 on thermal stability for TiO2 SCR catalyst (WO3 첨가에 의한 TiO2계 SCR 촉매의 상전이 및 입자성장이 고온안정성에 미치는 영향)

  • Thermal stability of the $TiO_2$ SCR catalyst with W03 loading was investigated in terms of structural and morphological analyses. The $TiO_2$ catalysts with 10 w% $WO_3$ content and without $WO_3$ were prepared. which were heat-treated at $800^{\circ}C$ for 5 h. It was found that the catalytic acidity was decreased by thermal degradation in the $WO_3-TiO_2$ specimen that relatively less than the $TiO_2$ specimen from FT-IR analysis. The phase transition of the $TiO_2$ catalyst from anatase to rutile was increased by heal-treatment, and the percentage of the rutile phase was 28.4 % in the $WO_3-TiO_2$ and 22.9 % in the $TiO_2$. A shell region of $WO_3$ distinguished from a $TiO_2$ particle was also observed in the grain boundary region, and the $WO_3$ led to the suppression of grain growth. It could be confirmed that the suppression of grain growth can contribute to the improvement of catalytic properties for thermal stability more than the increase of anatase-rutile phase transformation which cause the reduction of the catalytic activity in the $TiO_2$ SCR catalyst by the presence of $WO_3$.

Design of accelerated life test on temperature stress of piezoelectric sensor for monitoring high-level nuclear waste repository (고준위방사성폐기물 처분장 모니터링용 피에조센서의 온도 스트레스에 관한 가속수명시험 설계)

  • The high-level nuclear waste repository is a deep geological disposal system exposed to complex environmental conditions such as high temperature, radiation, and ground-water due to handling spent nuclear fuel. Continuous exposure can lead to cracking and deterioration of the structure over time. On the other hand, the high-level nuclear waste repository requires an ultra-long life expectancy. Thus long-term structural health monitoring is essential. Various sensors such as an accelerometer, earth pressure gauge, and displacement meter can be used to monitor the health of a structure, and a piezoelectric sensor is generally used. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a highly durable sensor based on the durability assessment of the piezoelectric sensor. This study designed an accelerated life test for durability assessment and life prediction of the piezoelectric sensor. Based on the literature review, the number of accelerated stress levels for a single stress factor, and the number of samples for each level were selected. The failure mode and mechanism of the piezoelectric sensor that can occur in the environmental conditions of the high-level waste repository were analyzed. In addition, two methods were proposed to investigate the maximum harsh condition for the temperature stress factor. The reliable operating limit of the piezoelectric sensor was derived, and a reasonable accelerated stress level was set for the accelerated life test. The suggested methods contain economical and practical ideas and can be widely used in designing accelerated life tests of piezoelectric sensors.
