우리나라 고온성 온천수에 함유된 희토류원소 존재도의 지구화학적 특성

  • 한반도남부에 분포하는 중생대의 화강암류는 경기육괴지역을 중심으로 분포하는 쥬라기의 대보화강암류와 옥천대 이남지역에 주로 분포하는 백악기의 불국사 화강암류로 크게 분류할 수가 있다. 우리나라의 4$0^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온성 온천수는, 이암층으로 덮여있는 포항지역을 제외하고는 대부분이 상기의 화강암류 지역에 분포하는 특성을 지닌다. 이 논문에서는 우리나라의 고온성 온천수의 지구화학적특성, 특히 희토류원소의 분포특성을 화강암류의 분포지역과 비교하여 고찰해보고자 하였다. 화학분석에 이용된 온천수 시료는 2004년도 2월의 건기에 채취되었다. 이 연구결과에 의하면, 아산온천(구 온양온천), 덕산온천, 포천지구 및 속초지구와 같이 쥬라기 대보화강암류지역에 주로 분포하는 온천수는 PAAS(Post-Archean Australian Shale)로 규격화하였을 경우 경희토류(La-Sm)이 결핍되어 있고, 중희토류는 편평한 분포양상을 보여주었다. 그리고 Eu의 이상(anomaly)이 거의 존재하지 않으며, Ce의 경우 부(-)의 이상 (Ce netative anomaly)을 보여주기도 한다. 반면에 옥천대 이남에 분포하는 백암, 덕구, 부곡, 마금산, 동래, 해운대, 포항지구의 온천수들은 전반적으로 편평한 분포특성을 보여준다. 그리고 대체적으로 Eu 과 Ce의 강한 정(+)의 이상을 보여준다. 이와 같은 Eu과 Ce의 이상은 온천수와 대수층간의 반응에 따른 결과로서 사료된다.

온양 지역 온천수의 수질 특성 : 천부 지하수와 혼합 비율 분석

  • 온양온천지구의 13개 온천공에서 채취한 온천수의 수질 자료를 이용하여 심부 온천수와 천부 지하수의 혼합비를 추정하였다. 온천수의 pH, EC, 및 주요 이온의 농도는 40~54$^{\circ}C$의 범위를 나타내는 온천수의 온도와 뚜렷한 선형의 비례관계를 나타내며, 수온이 낮아질수록 천부 지하수의 수질 특성에 가까워지는 특성을 보인다. pH, $K^{+}$, F$^{-}$, 및 Si는 온도와 정(+)의 비례관계를, $Ca^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, Cl$^{-}$, HCO$_3$$^{-}$, SO$_4$$^{2-}$ , NO$_3$$^{-}$ 및 EC는 부(-)의 비례관계를 나타낸다. 온천수의 온도와 수질과의 이러한 상관성은 수질 특성이 상이한 고온의 심부 온천수와 저온의 천부 지하수가 각 온천공에서 서로 다른 비율로 혼합되어 나타난 결과로 해석된다. 최고 온도를 나타내는 온천수와 온천지구 내 지하수의 수질을 끝 성분(end member)으로 가정하고 혼합비를 계산한 결과, 온천지구에서 현재 채수되는 온천수에는 20% 내외의 천부 지하수가 혼합되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 온천수와 지하수의 수질 자료를 파이퍼 다이어그램에 도시한 결과 $Na^{+}$-HCO$_3$$^{-}$의 유형을 나타내는 13개 온천수는 전체적으로 직선 상에 분포하는 경향을 보였으며, $Ca^{2+}$-HCO$_3$$^{-}$의 유형을 나타내는 지하수는 직선의 연장선상에 분포하여 온천수와 지하수의 혼합이 일어나고 있음을 보여준다. 온천공 수질 검층 결과, 심도 145m를 경계로 지하수와 온천수가 상하부에 부존되어 있으며, 경계부에서 혼합이 발생하고 있는 것으로 추정된다.

Geochemical Significance of $^{14}C$ Age from the Dongrae Hot Spring Water (동래온천수의 $^{14}C$ 연대의 지구과학적 의의)

  • The Dongrae thermal water area located at the southeastern marginal part of the Korean Peninsula is one of the oldest hot springs in Korea. The Dongrae thermal water shows Na-Cl type of water chemistry, whereas the shallow cold groundwater is Ca(-Na)-$HCO_3$ type. In this paper, we discuss the age of the Dongrae hot spring, i.e. groundwater cycle among meteoric water-surface water-shallow groundwater-hot spring water. The $^{87}Sr/^{86}Sr$ ratios of the thermal water in Dongrae area range from 0.705663 to 0.705688 and are lower than those of groundwater, surface water and rain water as well as aquifer bearing granite. These Sr isotopic signatures in the Dongrae thermal water indicate that the circulation rate between thermal water and current meteoric water including groundwater, surface water and rain water in the Dongrae area should be very slow. The $^{14}C$ age of the Dongrae hot spring water range from $1,271{\pm}36$ BP(before present) to $2,467{\pm}36$ BP whereas that of the shallow groundwater is $-495{\pm}33$ BP. This suggests that the period of groundwater cycle among meteoric water, surface water, shallow groundwater and hot spring should be more than 1,270 years. Then, it also indicates that the present Dongrae hot spring may be a mixed water between the old thermal water heated for at least 1,270 years and the present shallow cold groundwater.

Rb-Sr Isotope Geochemistry in Seokmodo Granitoids and Hot Spring, Gangwha: An Application of Sr Isotope for Clarifying the Source of Hot Spring (강화 석모도 화강암류와 온천수의 지구화학: 온천수의 기원규명을 위한 Sr 동위원소의 응용)

  • The Seokmodo consists mainly of biotite granite and granodiorite. The biotite granite is divided into the south and the north part by granodiorite. There occurs high temperature hot spring of which temperature is up to $72^{\circ}C$. The Rb-Sr isotopic data for the biotite granite define whole-rock isochron ages of $207{\pm}70$ Ma with initial Sr isotopic ratio of 0.7132 in north part and $132{\pm}50$ Ma with initial Sr isotopic ratio of 0.7125 in south part, suggesting that the magma be derived from the crustal source material. The geochemical characteristics of the biotite granite and hornblende granodiorite indicate that they were crystallized from calc-alkaline under syn-collisional tectonic environment. The samples of hot spring were collected at March 2005 and March 2006. The $^{87}Sr/^{86}Sr$ ratios of hot spring are 0.714507 and 0.714518, respectively and correspond to those oi the granite being occurred at the south part. The similarity of $^{87}Sr/^{86}Sr$ ratios between the granite and hot spring strongly suggests that the hot spring might be derived from the Seokmodo biotite granite.

Survival of Food-borne and Pathogenic Microorganisms in Hot Spring Water (온천수에서 식중독 및 병원성 미생물의 생존 양상)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of hot spring water against the survival of food-borne and pathogenic microorganisms. Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, and Escherichia coli, which are food-borne microorganisms, Candida albicans and Trichophyton mentagrophytes, which are skin disease pathogens, and Helicobacter pylori, gastritis inducing microorganism, were tested. The content of fluoride in tested hot spring water is 14.1 mg/L, which is higher than the standard of safe for drinking water 1.5 mg/L, but the results on 48 other items were up to the standard. Hot spring water didn't show the bactericidal effects against food-borne microorganisms, C. albicans, and H. pylori tested. However, the viable cell populations of B. cereus and T. mentagrophytes were decreased, which were depends on the temperature of hot spring water. From these results, we confirmed that hot spring water didn't show the bactericidal effects against food-borne microorganisms, skin disease pathogens, and gastritis inducing microorganism, but the growth of some microorganisms were inhibited by high temperature ($41^{\circ}C$).

Characteristics of Antifungal Bacterium, Bacillus subtilis YS1 and It′s Mutant Induced by Gamma Radiation (온천수로부터 분리한 항진균세균의 특성 및 감마선$(Co^{60})$ 조사를 이용한 돌연변이체 유기)

  • Antifungal bacterium, Bacillus subtilis YS1 was isolated from Yusong hot spring showed broad antifungal spectrum against 12 kinds of plant pathogenic fungi and Candida albicans, animal pathogen. From the gamma($Co^{60}$) radiation sensitivity test, $D_10$ value was 2.08 kGy and it survived above 20 kGy of radiation dose. Several mutants were induced by gamma radiation. Among them, YS1-1009 mutant showed resistance against tebuconazole of herbicide, increased activity against Botryoshaeria dothidea and ligninase activity. YS67 mutant was antifungal deficient auxotrophic mutants(trp-pro-or arg-ura-). From this results, it suggested that gamma irradiation could be useful method for mutant induction.

  • As multimedia information recently increases fast, various types of retrieval of multimedia data are becoming issues of great importance. For the efficient multimedia data processing, semantics based retrieval techniques are required that can extract the meaning contents of multimedia data. Existing retrieval methods of multimedia data are annotation-based retrieval, feature-based retrieval and annotation and feature integration based retrieval. These systems take annotator a lot of efforts and time and we should perform complicated calculation for feature extraction. In addition. created data have shortcomings that we should go through static search that do not change. Also, user-friendly and semantic searching techniques are not supported. This paper proposes to develop S-MARS(Semantic Metadata-based Multimedia Annotation and Retrieval System) which can represent and extract multimedia data efficiently using MPEG-7. The system provides a graphical user interface for annotating, searching, and browsing multimedia data. It is implemented on the basis of the semantic metadata model to represent multimedia information. The semantic metadata about multimedia data is organized on the basis of multimedia description schema using XML schema that basically comply with the MPEG-7 standard. In conclusion. the proposed scheme can be easily implemented on any multimedia platforms supporting XML technology. It can be utilized to enable efficient semantic metadata sharing between systems, and it will contribute to improving the retrieval correctness and the user's satisfaction on embedding based multimedia retrieval algorithm method.

Characteristics of Thermophilic Bacteria and Secondary Materials Attached on the Pyrrhotite, Uljin (울진 자류철석 표면에 부착한 고온성박테리아와 2차 생성물의 특성)

  • Characteristics of thermophilic bacteria and secondary materials on the pyrrhotite surface were investigated by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The thermophilic bacteria from an acid hot spring in Japan were incubated with pyrrhotite at $42^{\circ}C$, $52^{\circ}C$, and $62^{\circ}C$ respectively. SEM analysis of the reacted pyrrhotite showed that indigenous rod-shaped bacteria ranging from $0.4{\times}1.5{\mu}m$ to $0.3{\times}11.9{\mu}m$ in size were attached to the pyrrhotite surface at these temperatures with formation of secondary materials. Extracellular polymer substances were formed on the bacterial surface. We suggest that these polymers functioned as a capsule protecting bacteria from the extreme environment. Secondary materials such as elemental sulfur, Fe-hydroxide, S-Fe and O-P-Fe compounds were found on the pyrrhotite surface.

Acid Drainage and Damage Reduction Strategy in Construction Site: An Introduction (건설현장 산성배수의 발생현황 및 피해저감대책)

  • Acid drainage has been recognized as an environmental concern in abandoned mine sites for long time. Recently, the environmental and structural damage by acid drainage is a current issue in construction sites in Korea. Here, the author introduces the type of damages by acid drainage in construction sites and emphasizes the importance of geoscience discipline in solving the problem. Metasedimentary rock of Okcheon group, coal bed of Pyeongan group, Mesozoic volcanic rock. and Tertiary sedimentary and volcanic rocks are the major rock types with a high potential for acid drainage upon excavation in Korea. The acid drainage causes the acidification and heavy metal contamination of soil, surface water and groundwater, the reduction of slope stability, the corrosion of slope structure, the damage on plant growth, the damage on landscape and the deterioration of concrete and asphalt pavement. The countermeasure for acid drainage is the treatment of acid drainage and the prevention of acid drainage. The treatment of acid drainage can be classified into active and passive treatments depending on the degree of natural process in the treatment. Removal of oxidants, reduction of oxidant generation and encapsulation of sulfide are employed for the prevention of acid drainage generation.

Isolation and Characterization of a β-galactosidase Producing Thermophilic Bacterium (β-galactosidase를 생성하는 고온성(高溫性) 세균(細菌)의 생리적(生理的) 특성(特性)에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • This experiment was carried out to elucidate the thermotolerant properties of a thermophilic bacterium which was isolated from soils of the hot springs area and selected for the ${\beta}$-galactosidase production. This bacterium was identified as a strain belong to the genus Thermus. Biochemical and physiological characteristics of this strain were studied, including the investigation of the fatty acid composition of its neutral fats. The results obtained were summarized as follows. 1. Optimal temperature and pH for growth of this strain were $65^{\circ}C$ and pH 6.5 respectively, and it was found to be an absolute thermophilic bacterium which could not grow at the temperature below $43^{\circ}C$. 2. No growth was obtained in the medium which contained more than 1.0% of sodium chloride. 3. The tolerable concentration of antibiotics were 10mg of penicillin G per ml of medium and 0.5mg of chloramphenicol per ml respectively. 4. This strain had auxotrophilic requirements for calcium-pantothenate and pyridoxin-HCl as an essential factor and for niacin as a stimulative factor. 5. Yellow pigment was released into the liquid culture of this strain, which showed maximum absorption at 420 nm. 6. Fatty acid composition of neutral fats of the strain was palmitic acid, 60.20%; lauric acid, 11.80%; myristic acid, 7.56%; behenic acid, 4.25%; capric acid, 1.77%; stearic acid, 2.13%; arachidic acid, 1.53%; and others unidentified, 10.7%.
