An Experimental Study of Evaporative Heat Exchangers with Mini-channels (물의 증발잠열을 이용하는 미니채널 열교환기의 실험적 연구)

  • The present study shows some results of developing evaporative heat exchangers with mini-channels. Heat exchangers with three different water paths were manufactured and tested to compare performances of cooling and pressure drop. Among the three types of heat exchangers, Type 2 with full-etching was proved to be the best in the cooling performances for considered operating conditions, and thus it is recommended to adopt Type 2 for its simplicity of production and outstanding performance. However, Type 1 was shown to be better when it is operated at a high air inlet temperature condition. The developed evaporative heat exchanger will be installed in Environmental Control Systems(ECSs) for aerial vehicles, and it can be used effectively in case an ECS is not only limited in its weight and volume but also required to absorb heats without supplying water (or a coolant) for a certain period of time.

Numerical Study on the Performance of a Microchannel Heat Exchanger with a Novel Channel Array (새로운 채널 배열을 통한 마이크로채널 열교환기 성능 향상 수치 연구)

  • In conventional microchannel heat exchangers, only one kind of fluid (hot or cold) flows in each plate. The channels contain different kinds of fluid depending on the vertical position, but they have the same kind of fluid at all horizontal positions. Therefore, there is a slower heat transfer rate in the horizontal direction than in the vertical direction. We propose a microchannel heat exchanger in which hot and cold fluid flows alternately in each plate to improve the thermal performance. This novel channel array requires a special design for the inlet and outlet. The proposed channel array has a faster heat transfer rate than a conventional channel array. The thermal performance of the novel channel array increases with increasing Reynolds number and Prandtl number, but it decreases as the ratio of solid to fluid thermal conductivity increases.

Investigation of Combustion Properties for Using Safe Hydrogen (안전한 수소 이용을 위한 연소특성치 고찰)

  • For the safety design and operation of many gas process, it is necessary to know certain explosion limit, flash point, autoignition temperature (AIT) and minimum oxygen concentration of handling substances. Also it is necessary to know explosion limit at high temperature and pressure. In this study for the safe handling of hydrogen, explosion limit and AIT of combustion properties for hydrogen were investigated. By using the literatures data, the lower and upper explosion limits of hydrogen recommended 4.0 vol% and 77.0 vol%. Also the AIT of hydrogen with ignition sources recommended $400^{\circ}C$ at the electrically heated crucible furnace (the whole surface heating) and recommended $640^{\circ}C$ at the local hot surface. The new equations for predicting the temperature and the pressure dependence of the explosion limits of hydrogen are proposed. The values calculated by the proposed equations were a good agreement with the literature data.

성막직전 기판 열처리가 롤투롤 스퍼터를 이용하여 성장시킨 터치 패널용 ITO 투명 전극의 특성 미치는 효과 연구

  • 본 연구에서는 저가격, 대면적화를 위한 롤투롤 스퍼터를 설계&개발하고, 성막직전 PET 기판의 열처리 유무를 통한 ITO 박막을 성막 시킨 저항막 방식의 터치 패널용 투명 전극에 대하여 전기적, 광학적, 구조적, 표면적 특성을 분석하였다. 롤투롤 스퍼터는 degassing챔버와 스퍼터 챔버가 한 시스템에 구성되었고, Degassing 챔버는 좌우측의 Rewinder/Unwinder 롤러에 의해 감고 풀어지는 PET기판의 수분 및 가스를 중앙부에 위치한 히터를 통해 제거하며, 수분 제거 후 스퍼터 챔버로 옮겨진 1250 mm폭의 PET기판을 Unwinder/Rewinder 롤러에 장착하며, Unwinder 롤러로부터 풀려진 PET 기판은 guide 롤러를 거쳐 cooling drum과의 물리적 접촉에 의해 PET 기판의 냉각이 일어나게 된다. ITO 캐소드 전에 장착된 할로겐 히터 상부로 기판이 지나가면서 열처리가 진행되고 열처리 후 두 개의 ITO 캐소드 상부를 지나면서 연속적으로 ITO 박막이 PET 기판에 성막 되게 된다. ITO 박막의 주요 성막 변수인 DC Power, Ar/$O_2$ 가스 유량비, 기판의 속도는 최적으로 고정하고, 성막 직전 기판의 열처리에 유무에 따른 ITO박막의 필름을 각각 고온 챔버에서 $140^{\circ}C{\times}90min$ 동안 열처리를 통한 내열성 테스트를 진행하여 ITO 필름의 특성 향상을 비교 분석하였다. 분석을 위해 전기적 특성은 four-point probe로 측정했고, 투과도는 Nippon Denshoku사(社)의 COH-300A를 이용해 가시광(550nm)에서 분석했고, FE-SEM으로 ITO박막 의 표면 상태를 분석하였다. 또한 Bending Tester(Z-100)를 이용하여 기계적 안정성을 분석하였다. 성막직전 PET 기판의 열처리를 하지 않은 ITO박막은 고온의 챔버 에서 $140^{\circ}C{\times}90min$ 동안 내열성 테스트 후 면저항이 511($\omega/\Box$)에서 630($\omega/\Box$)으로 높아졌으나, 성막직전 열처리를 통한 ITO 박막인 경우에는 465($\omega/\Box$)에서 448($\omega/\Box$)로 안정화 되었고, 투과율은 성막직전 열처리를 통해 1%향상되어 89%를 보였고, 유연성 또한 보다 우수한 특성을 보였다. 표면 조도는 평균 0.416 nm의 낮은 값을 보였다. 이는 PET 기판의 degassing 공정 중 충분히 제거되지 않은 가스나 불순물을 성막직전 열처리 공정으로 충분히 제거하여 깨끗한 PET 기판 상에 ITO 박막을 성막시키고, 열처리시 기판에 주어진 열에너지에 의해 보다 밀도가 높은 ITO 박막이 성장했기 때문으로 사료 된다.

  • This study is for figuring out a possibility of realization of the thermal protection system(TPS) for temporary use under high temperature condition and improving a design of the future TPS. On this purpose, environmental condition of the system has been simplified: the boundary conditions consist of a internally heating surface and a externally heated surface which is simulating the external high temperature condition. Configuration of the system is simplified as a hexahedon. Melting characteristics of the phase change material(PCM) and air temperature variation of TPS with or without connector have been numerically analyzed and compared. As a result of numerical analysis, the heat from the internally heated surface could not be effectively transferred. Therefore, temperature of inner space has been increased.

Evaluation of Adhesion Performance of High-Fireproofing Alumino-silicate Inorganic Mortar (알루미노 실리케이트계 고내화성 모르타르의 부착성능 평가)

  • In modern society, a huge number of the buildings have been constructed with RC structure. RC structures have many structural instabilities due to earthquake, typhoon, construction fault, design phase errors. Therefore, many reinforcement methods are being implemented to solve this problem. In the reinforcement method, the organic epoxy adhesive used in the FRP reinforcing method is abruptly damaged when exposed to high temperature, which is directly connected to the fall of the reinforcing material. Therefore, the present study was conducted to develop inorganic refractory mortar with a certain level of adhesion ability to reduce the heat transferred to FRP reinforcement when exposed to high temperatures. As a result of the test, it showed high adhesion strength at room temperature condition with the inclusion of EVA resin, and showed no performance deterioration up to about $300^{\circ}C$ even under heating conditions. Also, it was confirmed that the backside temperature was lower as the thickness increased, and converged to a constant temperature of about $780^{\circ}C$ after 2 hours of heating.

  • In this study, a test equipment which enables to feed endothermic fuel which is heated in the inside and outside environment of a high-speed vehicle and evaluate the heat exchangers' performance was designed and manufactured. For smooth operation of the test equipment, a test procedure that supplied endothermic fuel at high temperatures was established. The catalyst performance test was conducted based on the supply condition of the endothermic fuel and the amount of heat absorbed was analyzed. The validation of the test equipment was proved by comparing the results of catalytic reaction with the previous studies under similar reaction condition. This test equipment can be utilized in the endothermic reaction tests of catalyzed endothermic fuel under various conditions.

Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger Performance Estimation by Changing Shell-side Fluid Characteristics (쉘-튜브 열교환기에서의 쉘쪽 유체의 특성에 따른 열교환기 성능 변화 예측 사례)

  • The shell and tube heat exchangers installed in the propulsion system test complex (PSTC) at the Naro Space Center heats cryogenic helium to 500 K with a heat transfer oil. As the experimental helium outlet temperature was lower than expected (less than 100 K), the boundary layer effect of the heat transfer oil is predicted to be the cause of the performance deterioration. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was performed to verify where the boundary layer effect exists; however, the boundary layer effect has no significant impact on the performance of the heat exchanger. An alternative method to improve the performance of the heat exchanger by changing the heat transfer oil has been discussed in this paper. The low viscosity and high thermal conductivity at high temperature (~500 K) of heat transfer oil at the shell-side are required to improve the thermal performance of the heat exchanger. The experimental performance of the heat exchanger, used to exchange heat between the cryogenic helium and hot heat transfer oil at the PSTC are summarized in this paper.

Domestic Development and Module Manufacturing Results of W-band PA and LNA MMIC Chip (W-대역 전력증폭 및 저잡음증폭 MMIC의 국내개발 및 모듈 제작 결과)

  • For the purpose of Application to the small radar sensor, the MMIC Chips, which are the core component of the W-band, was designed in Korea according to the characteristics of the transceiver and manufactured by 60nm GaN and 0.1㎛ GaAs pHEMT process. The output power of PA is 28 dBm at center frequency of W-band and Noise figure is 6.7 dB of switch and LNA MMIC. Output power and Noise figure of MMIC chips developed in domestic was applied to the transmitter and receiver module through W-band waveguide low loss transition structure design and impedance matching to verify the performance after the fabrication are 26.1~27.7 dBm and 7.85~10.57 dB including thermal testing, and which are close to the analysis result. As a result, these are judged that the PA and Switch and LNA MMICs can be applied to the small radar sensor.

Heat Flux Measurements in High Velocity Oxygen-Fuel Torch Flow for Testing High Thermal Materials (고온 재료 테스트를 위한 고속 산소 연료 토치 흐름에서의 열유속 측정)

  • A commercial HVOF torch (originally designed for coating applications) has been modified as a high temperature flow source for material testing. In this study, a water cooled commercial Gardon gauge was used to measure heat fluxes at four locations away from the nozzle exit. The cooling water temperature data were used to calculate calorimetric heat fluxes at the same locations. The heat fluxes from both methods were compared and the calorimetric heat fluxes were found to be many times higher than the Gardon gauge heat fluxes. A hypothesis is applied to the calorimetric method to understand the discrepancy seen between the methods. The Gardon gauge heat fluxes are seen to be in the range of the hypothesized calorimetric calculations. This can be considered as a considerable validation for the hypothesis, but further refinement needed using appropriate numerical models.
