  • In order to know the characteristics of the hypersonic air-breahting engine, high altitude and Mach number ground test is necessary. Therefore, high pressure and high temperature condition should be simulated to do ground test of the hypersonic air-breathing engine. In this paper, the hypersonic air-breathing engine ground test facility of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute was introduced and the composition and characteristics were described.

A Study on Cooling of Hot Steel Surface by Water-Air Mixed Spray(I) -The Effect of Air Mass Flux on Film Boiling Heat Transfer- (물-공기 혼합분무에 의한 고온 강판 냉각에 대한 연구 (I) -막비등 열전달에 대한 공기질량유속의 영향-)

  • The cooling characteristic of water-air mixed spray for high water mass flux is not well defined, compared to that of highly pressurized spray. A series of research program was planned to develop the boiling correlation for whole temperature range in case of water-air mixed spray with high water mass flux. The cooling experiments of hot steel surface with initial temperature of 820$^{\circ}C$ were conducted in unsteady state with relatively high water mass flux. A computer program was developed to calculate the heat flux inversely from measured data by three inserted thermocouples. Finally the effects of water and air mass flux on the averaged film boiling heat flux and wetting temperature were studied. In this 1st report, it is found that the boiling curve was similar to that of highly pressurized spray and the decreased slope of heat flux in film boiling region with respect to surface temperature became steep by increasing air mass flux. Also it is shown that, by increasing air mass flux, the averaged heat flux in film boiling region was increased, and then saturated and the wetting temperature was increased, and then decreased. Finally when the heat flux in film boiling region is compared with that of highly pressurized spray, it is known that the cooling is improved by introducing air up to 60%.

  • 석탄 직접연소의 신기술인 Cyclone 연소기술은 환경오염저감 기술증의 하나로서, 고온 연소로 인해 회분이 연소실 내부에서 용융, 제거된 후 고온의 청정연소가스만 보일러로 유입된다. 또한 연소기의 fuel-rich 연소조건하에서 생성된 고온의 불완전연소가스는 보일러 입구에서 충분한 재연소공기를 공급함으로서 완전연소시킬 수 있으므로 적은 시설투자 비용으로 기존 오일이나 가스용 보일러를 석탄용으로 전환이 용이할 뿐만 아니라 이러한 다단 연소방식을 채택하여 NOx 제어도 가능하다는 이점이 있다. Cyclone 연소기술의 개발은 석탄의 청정연소 뿐만 아니라 그 기술을 토대로 석탄가스화, MHD 발전, 가연성 폐기물 소각등에도 활용할 수 있다. 따라서 국내 기술자립을 위해 실험용 Cyclone 연소기를 설계, 제작 및 연소실험을 수행한 결과, Peco-semi탄을 연료로 공급량 약 30 kg/hr, 공기비 약 1.0 일 때 탄소전환율은 약 95% 이며 회분제거율은 약 70%임을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • A small-scale solar collector and tracking system, using a Fresnel lens of $0.5m^2$, and novel compact fluidized-bed solar receiver[FBR] of closed type has been developed for high temperature solar gas heating. The FBR was improved in carrying over of SiC powder and thermo-siphon effect. The maximum outlet air temperature of 1140K and the maximum thermal efficiency of 64% were obtained. The present FBR's operated efficiently at extremely high temperatures in comparison with conventional solar receivers, composed of flat or tubular solid surfaces.

  • Two novel industrial combustion technologies are introduced. High temperature air regenerative combustion for industrial heating system and oxyfuel combustion for power plant are considered as a energy saving and $CO_{2}$ emission reducing combustion technology. Research works are necessary to understand fundamental phenomena and to develope application technologies to industrial sector.

Effects of Soil Temperature on Biodegradation Rate of Diesel Compounds from a Field Pilot Test Using Hot Air Injection Process (고온공기주입 공법 적용시 지중온도가 생분해속도에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of changes in soil temperature on biodegradation rate of diesel compounds from a field pilot test using hot air injection process. Total remediation time was estimated from in-situ biodegradation rate and temperature for optimum biodegradation. All tests were conducted by measuring in-situ respiration rates every about 10 days on highly contaminated area where an accidental diesel release occurred. The applied remediation methods were hot air injection/extraction process to volatilize and extract diesel compounds followed by a bioremediation process to degrade residual diesels in soils. Oxygen consumption rate varied from 2.2 to 46.3%/day in the range of 26 to $60^{\circ}C$, and maximum $O_2$ consumption rate was observed at $32.0^{\circ}C$. Zero-order biodegradation rate estimated on the basis of oxygen consumption rates varied from 6.5 to 21.3 mg/kg-day, and the maximum biodegradation rate was observed at $32^{\circ}C$ as well. In other temperature range, the values were in the decreasing trend. The first-order kinetic constants (k) estimated from in-situ respiration rates measured periodically were 0.0027, 0.0013, and $0.0006d^{-1}$ at 32.8, 41.1, and $52.7^{\circ}C$, respectively. The estimated remediation time was from 2 to 9 years, provided that final TPH concentration in soils was set to 870 mg/kg.

MARS Code Applicability Assessments for the HTGR RCCS (고온가스로 원자로공동냉각계통(RCCS)에 대한 MARS Code 적용성 평가)

  • In this study, the IAEA Benchmark problems far HTR-10 and HTTR RCCS were assessed in order to assess the applicability of MARS code, a thermal-hydraulic safety analysis code developed for water reactors. The calculated results were compared with those or THERMIX, THANPACST2 code, and available experimental data. The calculated results showed generally good agreements with those obtained by the THERMIX code and THANPACST2 code. Deviations were analyzed to be originated from the simplification of complicated geometry and from the modeling capability of heat transfer characteristics in the HTGR components such as water cooler and air tooler. Especially, it was found that the radiation heat transfer in the reactor cavity played an important role in the after heat removal in the RCCS. Thus, it is concluded that MARS code can be successfully applied to the calculation of the RCCS cooling capability of the HTGR in this study.

  • vortex tube는 간단한 구조의 관을 이용하여 어떠한 화학작용이나 연소작용 없이 압축유체를 저온 및 고온부분으로 분리하는 에너지 분리장치이다. 금속학자 Georges Joseph Ranque에 의해 vortex tube의 에너지분리 현상이 발견된 후 vortex tube는 공작기계에 의한 금속가공에 있어서 가공물의 열변형을 막기 위한 국소냉각, 금형제품의 급속냉각 또는 냉각복(air cooling jacket)에 사용하거나 공기공급식 호흡보호구의 공기공급시스템에 많이 활용되고 있다. vortex tube를 이용한 냉각복 및 호흡보호구는 소형, 경량으로서 근로자의 직접적인 조작이 간단하고, 열기가 신체에 직접적으로 닿지 않아 안전하고, 냉각효율이 높을 뿐만 아니라 매우 경제적이어서 그 이용률이 점차 확대될 전망이다. The Effect of Ambient Air Condition on a Hot Steel Plate Cooled by Impinging Water Jet (주변공기조건이 충돌수분류에 의한 고온강판의 냉각에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • It is observed that the cooling capacity of impinging water jet is affected by the seasonal conditions in steel manufacturing process with large scale. To confirm this phenomena, the cooling experiments of a hot steel plate by a laminar jet were conducted for two different initial ambient air temperature($10^{\circ}C$ and $40^{\circ}C$) in a closed chamber, and an inverse heat conduction method is applied for the quantitative comparison. It is found that the cooling capacity under $10^{\circ}C$ air temperature is lower than that under $40^{\circ}C$, as is the saturated water vapor is more easily observed, and the amount of total extracted heat in the case of $10^{\circ}C$ is smaller by nearly 15% than that of $40^{\circ}C$ case. From these results, it is thought that the quantity of water vapor, which could be absorbed until saturation, effects on the mechanism of boiling heat transfer.

  • An experiment using high preheated air in a turbulent non-premixed flame was performed to investigate the effects of high preheated air on the combustion characteristics. Combustion using high preheated and diluted air with flue gas is a new technology which enables NO emission to be reduced. In this study, Na was used as diluent and propane as fuel. Combustion characteristics, especially the distributions of the flame temperature, NO concentration and OH radical intensity were examined under the condition of 300 K, 600 K, 1000 K in terms of the combustion air temperature, and also under the condition of the dilution level from 21% to 13% in terms of oxygen concentration. As the preheated air temperature increased, it appeared that the flame length became shorter, maximum flame temperature increased, the reaction region moved to upstream, and NO concentration increased, but the flame temperature's fluctuation was reduced. In opposite, it was shown with decrement of oxygen concentration at the maximum temperature that both maximum value and the gradient of the flame temperature decreased, and NO emission also decreased considerably, but its fluctuation became larger, being inclined to be unstable.
