Determination of Base Capacity Values for Short-Term Freeway Work Zone (고속도로 단기공사구간 기본용량 결정에 관한 연구)

  • Lane closure in freeway work zone due to maintenance and repair of freeway facilities results in abrupt change of traffic flow. Sudden change of traffic flow results strong interactions among vehicles, and reduces capacity compared to the ordinary traffic condition. Such capacity reduction is likely to cause congestion, traffic queues, and economic loss cost. This study aims to determine the base capacity for a short-term freeway work zone that can be used to establish a work zone schedule in advance without any traffic impact. First, the research collected detector data and schedule data of road works on all freeways in Korea. Second, the research determined 23 study sites finding the capacity values of work zone after matching two kinds of data. All study sites had varying characteristics regarding traffic flow being adjacent to work zone during road works. The capacity values were reviewed in terms of lane closure configuration, the types of work, and design speed. Finally, research proposed capacity values for a short-term freeway work zone with the design speeds of 100 kph, 120 kph and 1,700 pcphpl, 1,750 pcphpl, respectively.

  • Expressways are built to provide for high levels of safety and efficiency in the movement of large traffic volumes at high speeds. However, Gyeongbu and Namhae expressways in the country which are often suffering from the transportation problems with increased import and exoprt cargo trucks including the container vehicles are the major expressways having the Busan Port as the origin and destination regions, and are required to study the expressway traffic characteristics for reducing the transportation problems. We therefore attempted to suggest the expressway density predictive model through the correlation analysis between lane occupancy and mean density at the 8-lane basic segments of the above major expressways in the country.

  • 교통사고예측 및 예방을 위해서는 실제적으로 도로설계과정에서 제어가 가능한 도로 기하구조요소에 대한 사고관계를 파악함이 타당하다. 즉, 도로의 설계자는 도로건설에 앞서 기하구조요소와 사고와의 관계를 현장자료를 통해 정확히 밝혀 도로설계에 반영해야 한다. 이를 위해, 교통사고의 빈도분포를 박히는 것은 가장 기본이 되는 일이며, 교통사고 예측모형개발에 선행되어야 한다. 일반적으로 교통사고건수의 경우 분산이 평균보다 큰 과분산(overdispersion)의 특징을 가지고 있어 음이항 분포를 따른다고 알려져 있다. 따라서 본 논문은 사고모형의 개발에 앞서, 사고발생지점에 대한 도로설계요소와 기타 잠재적인 사고발생 관련요인이 비교적 잘 파악되어있는 호남고속도로를 중심으로 평면 선형상 곡선부에 대하여 교통사고의 분포를 적합도 검정을 통해 알아보고자 하였다. 사고자료는 한국도로송사의 호남고속도로 5년(1996∼2000)간 자료를 분석에 맞게 정리하였으며, 강민욱과 송봉수(2002)에서 제시한 평면선형에 있어서의 구간분할법을 이용하여 배향곡선구간과 단일곡선구간에 대한 사고분석을 하였다. 적합도 분석결과, 예상대로 음이항분포가 사고건수를 설명하기에 가장 적합한 확률분포로 제시되었으며, 이를 통해 최우추정법을 이용한 음이항회귀모형을 개발하였다. 구간분할법을 적용한 음이항회귀모형의 경우, 기존의 확률회귀토형에 비하여 높은 결정계수를 갖았으며, 모형에서 적용된 기하구조요소로는 차량 노출계수, 곡선반경, 단위거리 당 편경사변화값 등이다.

  • 국내 도시교통에서 도시고속도로가 차지하는 비중은 급증하고 있으나 이의 효율적 인 운영은 아직 초보수준인 실정이다. 도시고속도로의 운영전략이나 기하구조 설계대안을 개발·분석·평가하는데 시뮬레이션 모형을 활용하는 것은 필수적이나 외국에서 개발된 모형 을 국내에 적용하는 데에는 많은 제약이 따르고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 국내 현실에 적합 한 도시고속도로 교통류 시뮬레이션 모형을 개발하려는데 그 목적이 있으며 연속 교통류 모 형의 개발, 모수추정 방법의 제시, 컴퓨터 코딩, 모형평가의 세부작업이 수행되었다. URFSIM-1은 각 구간에서 통행목적지별 차량 수를 추적할 수 있는 통행수요모형 기능에 구 간내 이동을 동적으로 기술할 수 있는 거시적 교통류 모형을 결합한 것을 기본 교통류 모형 으로 채택하고 있다. 비선형 최소 자승법에 의해 교통류 모형 모수와 O-D 모수를 추정하는 방법이 제시되었다. 마지막으로 유고상황을 가상한 정성분석과 미국 도시고속도로에서 수집 한 현장자료를 이용한 모형의 평가를 시행하였다.

Capacity of Urban Freeway Work Zones (도시 고속도로 공사구간 용량 산정)

  • This paper aims to estimate work zone base capacity by the number of lanes for urban freeway. To do this, data were collected from the field survey and the database system maintained by traffic control center, and analyzed with four different methods such as the average maximum observation flow rate, headway, regression analysis, and parameter inspection. The work zone base capacity for urban freeway is estimated based on the average maximum observation flow rate and headway method, which are more reliable methods compared to others. The average capacity is 1,650pcphpl when the design speed is 80km/h. The capacity of four lanes one-way work zones was about 1,700pcphpl, while one of 2 lanes one-way work zones was about 1,600pcphpl. The capacity reduction rates for each are 0.15 and 0.2, respectively. The smaller the number of lane is, the more base capacity is reduced. For verification of results, we estimate the capacity by simulation analysis using PARAMICS, and compare with analytical results by a statistical method. This research can be used for efficient and systemic management of work zone in the urban freeway.

A Safety Analysis Based on Evaluation Indicators of Mixed Traffic Flow (혼합 교통류의 적정 평가지표 기반 안전성 분석)

  • This study analyzed the characteristics of mixed traffic flows with autonomous vehicles on highway weaving sections and assessed the safety of vehicle-following pairs based on surrogate safety indicators. The intelligent driver model (IDM) was utilized to emulate the driving behavior of autonomous vehicles, and the weaving sections were divided into lengths of 300 and 600 meters for analysis within a micro-traffic simulation (VISSIM). Although significant differences were found in the average speed, density, and headway between the two sections through t-test results, no significant differences were observed when comparing the number of conflicts per indicator and the vehicle-following pair. Four safety indicators were selected for the mixed traffic evaluation based on their ability to represent risk levels similar to those perceived by drivers. The safety analysis, based on the selected four indicators, determined that autonomous vehicles following other autonomous vehicles were the safest pairing. Future research should focus on integrating these indicators into a single comprehensive index for analysis.

A Study on The Introduction of Truck only Lane on Expressway using VISSIM (마이크로 시뮬레이션을 이용한 고속도로 화물차 전용차로 도입에 관한 연구)

  • The high distribution costs causes the increasing of truck delivery time and cost, which results in reducing industrial competitiveness incre. Therefore, This study conducted research into the introduction of truck only lane for reducting distribution costs. The site of study is Keumho JCT ~ Namgumi IC of Kyeongbu Expressway which has much truck traffic because of industrial complex. Thus, this study deduced travel speed and density in each scenaria(base, bus only lane, truck only lane, two only lane). According to analysis result, if a truck only lane install, the average driving speed is 83.4km/h as a highest and density 22.47veh/km as lowest. it means that if the truck only lane is install, it will be positive influence on the expressway

  • Currently the highest speed limit on the road traffic congestion or because you can not cope with climate change to cause a traffic accident may be a factor. According to the Road Traffic Act as well as 20% to 50% in case of inclement weather, but the driver must slow speed left to the judgment of the difficulties, and to slow the vehicle and the relative velocity between the vehicle does not run longer be a big influence on the environment and safety. Thus, variable speed control for drivers on the road, specify the appropriate maximum speed limit in bad weather It keeps motorists slowed the run rate to prevent accidents or reduce the severity of accident damage is expected to be possible. The purpose of this study is the frequent traffic accidents Continuous Busan (City Freeway) around the variable speed control in the appropriate sections so that it can be done by analyzing the characteristics of traffic accidents were the severity of the accident. Highway and urban environment, the geometry of the structure because it has a lot of Curved planar point compared to wet and dry road surfaces by simulated rain wet had bom the more the speed the greater the risk of an accident was the result. Based on these results, the primary section, first urban highway tunnel, near the lamp, near Toll Plaza, near binary Outlet after considering various factors such as speed reduction is needed in the first period by conducting awareness and recognize the need for the participation of the driver and the future city installation and operation of highways in all sectors is expected to be expanded.
