Recently, as concrete structure becomes high rise and large scaled tendency, demands for high performance concrete such as high strength, high fluidity and high durability has been increased. Even though high performance concrete performs high strength, workability and durability, compared to with those of normal concrete, it is more brittle than normal concrete. Accordingly, this paper is intended to improve toughness and compressive strength through investigating the mechanical properties of the high performance concrete confined with metal lath, glass fiber and carbon fiber laterally in the case of 30% and 40% of W/B. According to the results, the compressive strength increases in order of metal lath, carbon fiber and glass fiber. Considering strain-stress curve with the kinds of material for lateral confinement, while brittleness failure occurs in plain concrete just after maximum load, it is improved in some degree in confined concrete due to increase of the strain by increase of toughness. Elastic modulus increases slightly in case of confined concrete, like the compressing strength.

Researches and studies which have been conducted so far on external confinement of long span concrete columns have mainly concentrated on concentric loading. But, long span bridge concrete columns over the sea are mainly subjected to concentrated axial load, and at the same time lange amount of moment by eccentric load. This paper experimentally investigates the performance of externally confined high-strength concrete columns subjected to loading mechanism and evaluates the effectiveness of two confinement materials carbon fibre and high performance glass fibre. Twelve short columns with the same dimensions were cast and tested Six columns were reinforced with hoop bars, the remaining six columns were reinforced with spiral bars and wrapped with three layers of carbon failure and high performance glass FRP sheets. Test variables considered were the shape of internal reinforcement and strengthening materials according to loading location. The experimental results showed that eccentric load could obviously lower down the maximum failure load of FRP-confined concrete columns, compared with the columns under concentric load. And compared with the carbon FRP-confined reinforced concrete columns, high performance glass FRP-confined columns displayed a higher load capacity and ductility, when tested both concentrically and eccentrically.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the biomechanical behavior and long-term safety of high performance polymer PEKK as an intraradicular dental post-core material through comparative finite element analysis (FEA) with other conventional post-core materials. A 3D FEA model of a maxillary central incisor was constructed. A cyclic loading force of 50 N was applied at an angle of $45^{\circ}$ to the longitudinal axis of the tooth at the palatal surface of the crown. For comparison with traditionally used post-core materials, three materials (gold, fiberglass, and PEKK) were simulated to determine their post-core properties. PEKK, with a lower elastic modulus than root dentin, showed comparably high failure resistance and a more favorable stress distribution than conventional post-core material. However, the PEKK post-core system showed a higher probability of debonding and crown failure under long-term cyclic loading than the metal or fiberglass post-core systems.

This paper presents the results of fire resistance properties of high performance concrete varying with fiber kinds and the size of metal lath in order to verify the validities of fiber on the spatting resistance by fire. Metal lath, glass fiber and carbon fiber are used to confine the concrete. According to test results, plain concrete without lateral confinement and confined concrete with glass fiber and carbon fiber show entire failure after exposed to fire, while confined concrete with metal lath take place in the form of slight surface spatting by fire, which has favorable spatting resistance of concrete. As for the effect of the size of metal lath, when the size of metal lath is more than 1.2mm of thickness, the residual strength of concrete exposed to fire maintains more than 80% of its original strength. However, glass fiber and carbon fiber does not perform desirable spatting resistance by fire due to loss of lateral confinement of fiber exposed to fire caused by melting of fiber and reducing bond strength between concrete and fiber.

Tow Prepreg is the intermediate material for filament winding process that has been "pre-impregnated fiber tow" with resin system. As "dry filament winding" process emerges as a reliable alternative to conventional filament winding (called "wet filament winding") process, interest in tow prepreg as a material for dry filament winding is rising as well. In this article, we have reviewed the recent research trends in carbon fiber tow prepreg for high-performance rocket motor cases, fuel tanks for hydrogen vehicles and other high-quality commercial pressure vessels.

This study proposes a development result for the 1-kW class small wind turbine system, which is applicable to relatively low wind speed regions like Korea and has the variable pitch control mechanism. In the aerodynamic design of the wind turbine blade, parametric studies were carried out to determine an optimum aerodynamic configuration which is not only more efficient at low wind speed but whose diameter is not much larger than similar class other blades. A light composite structure, which can endure effectively various loads, was newly designed. In order to evaluate the structural design of the composite blade, the structural analysis was peformed by the finite element method. Moreover both structural safety and stability were verified through the full- scale structural test.
Cellulose fibers, being fairly strong and stiff as well as cheap and plentiful with low energy demand during manufacture, are strong contenders for the reinforcement of cement-based materials. Cellulose fiber-cement composites, generally manufactured by slurry-dewatering procedure, can find applications in the production of flat and corrugated cement sheets and many other thin-sheet cement products. This paper presents the results of an experimental study concerned with the effects of fiber content and moisture conditions on the flexural performance of these composites. An effort was also made to study the effect of pozzolanic admixtures on the flexural performance in different moisture conditions. The test results obtained were analyzed statistically using the analysis of variance in order to derive reliable conclusions. The results generated in this study were indicative of significant effects of fiber content and moisture condition of flexural performance. There is a tendency in flexural strength to increase in increase in fiber content up to 8%: flexural toughness values continue to increase even at higher fiber contents. Moisture content has a significant effect on the flexural performance. There is a tendency in flexural strength to decrease and flexural toughness to increase with increasing moisture content Composites incorporating pozzolans showed an increase in the flexural strength while slightly reducing the flexural toughness and were sensitive to variations in moisture content.

This study investigated fundamental properties corresponding to mixtures for the high strength, and their properties of spalling prevention after a fire test. The results were summarized as following. For the flowability of using mixtures for the high strength, the target flow was satisfied with a small quantity of high performance reducing water agent to compare with silica fume. For the compressive strength in the case of using mixtures for the high strength, it was higher to compare with silica fume at 7 days, so it was proved that using mixtures for the high strength was profitable to prevent early frost damage. The compressive strength at the 28 days of silica fume and mixtures for the high strength were similar. There was no reduced tendency at the compressive strength according fiber contents, so it found out that the bonding strength between the fiber and concrete was hardly effective. For the spalling properties, the specimens without fibers were destroyed, however using over 0.05% of NY and PP fibers was effective to prevent spalling on the high strength concrete.

The thermal and mechanical properties of fiber-reinforced cement-based composite for solar thermal energy storage were investigated in this paper. The effect of the addition of different cement-based materials to Ordinary Portland cement on the thermal and mechanical characteristics of fiber-reinforced composite was investigated. Experiments were performed to measure mechanical properties including compressive strength before and after thermal cycling and split tensile strength, and to measure thermal properties including thermal conductivity and specific heat. Test results showed that the residual compressive strength of mixtures with OPC and slag was greatest among cement-based composite. Thermal conductivity of mixtures including graphite was greater than that of any other mixtures, indicating favor of graphite for improving thermal transfer in terms of charging and discharging in thermal energy storage system. The addition of CSA or zirconium increased specific heat of fiber-reinforced cement-based composite. Test results of this study could be actually used for the design of thermal energy storage system in concentrating solar power plants.
Vacuum Insulation Panel(VIP) has the lowest thermal conductivity among present insulations. It is composed of envelope, core material and getter. Aluminum film is usually used as the envelope of VIP, and it is important component to decide the useful life of VIP. In this research, the thermophysical properties of incombustible fiber glass core VIP were investigated with the possibility of its architectural applications. The results of this research can be summarized as follows: 1) The thermal conductivity of 20mm-thick fiber glass core VIP is resulted as 0.00177W/m·K, which means that 20mm-thick VIP can meet all the reinforced insulation guideline and it can be used in any envelope of any region in Korea. 2) As a result of the test of incombustion and gas toxicity, fiber glass core VIP was suitable for incombustible material. 3) As the test result for the long term thermal conductivity, fiber glass core VIP was found out that it would keep above 10 times insulating performance than polystyrene foam and glass fiber. 4) To meet the thermal transmittance of 0.12W/㎡K, limited-combustible insulation of expanded polystyrene foam and phenolic foam should be used respectively as thick as above 280mm and 170mm, incombustible VIP can meet the same insulation level with 20mm thickness. 5) The price competitiveness of incombustible VIP to meet the thermal transmittance of 0.12W/㎡·K was about 1,500won/㎡ higher than that of phenolic foam.
