  • This research investigated the influence of the number of twist on single fiber pullout behavior of Twisted steel (T-) fiber and tensile behavior of high performance cementitious composites reinforced with the (T-) fibers (HPFRCC). Micromechanical pullout model for T- fibers has been applied to analytically investigate the influence of various fiber parameters including the number of twist on single fiber pullout behavior; and, to optimize the number of twist to generate larger pullout energy during fiber pullout without fiber breakage. In addition, an experimental program including single fiber pullout and tensile tests has been performed to investigate the influence of twist ratio experimentally. Two types of T- fiber with different twisted ratios, T(L)- fiber (6ribs/30 mm) and T(H)- fiber (18ribs/30 mm), were tested. T(L)- fiber produced higher equivalent bond strength (larger pullout energy) although T(H)- fiber produced higher pullout stress during pullout since T(H)- fiber showed fiber breakage during pullout. Tensile test results confirmed that T(L)- fiber in high strength mortar generates better tensile performance of HPFRCC, e.g., load carrying capacity, strain capacity and multiple micro-cracking behavior.

  • The importance of public infrastructures' protection against crash or blast loads has been emerging issue as structures are becoming bigger and population densities in downtown cities are growing up. However, there exists no sufficient study which considers the developments of protective building materials, that are essential for protective design and construction. To assess the protection performance and the applicability as protective materials of high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites(HPFRCC), this study performed the impact tests with 40 mm gas-gun propelled projectile crash machine. From this study, it has observed that both high compressive strength of cement matrix and fiber reinforcement are beneficial for the improvement of impact resistance.

  • The thermal and mechanical properties of fiber-reinforced cement-based composite for solar thermal energy storage were investigated in this paper. The effect of the addition of different cement-based materials to Ordinary Portland cement on the thermal and mechanical characteristics of fiber-reinforced composite was investigated. Experiments were performed to measure mechanical properties including compressive strength before and after thermal cycling and split tensile strength, and to measure thermal properties including thermal conductivity and specific heat. Test results showed that the residual compressive strength of mixtures with OPC and slag was greatest among cement-based composite. Thermal conductivity of mixtures including graphite was greater than that of any other mixtures, indicating favor of graphite for improving thermal transfer in terms of charging and discharging in thermal energy storage system. The addition of CSA or zirconium increased specific heat of fiber-reinforced cement-based composite. Test results of this study could be actually used for the design of thermal energy storage system in concentrating solar power plants.

  • This paper was evaluated the rheology properties according to each step of paste, mortar and HPFRCC as a part of the basic study to development of sprayed high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites(HPFRCC) for protection and blast resistant. Rheology test results in step of paste, in case of GGBFs and FA, it showed that the plastic viscosity and yield stress reduced gradually according to the increase of mixing rate, and in case of SF, the plastic viscosity and yield stress increased radically starting from the mixing rate of 10%. Rheology test results in step of mortar, type of aggregates, it showed that particle shape and grading of aggregate is influence on plastic viscosity and yield stress, and change of volume ratio is influence on plastic viscosity than yield stress. Fluidity and rheology test results in step of HPFRCC, if after a fiber mixed, it showed that viscosity agent is more effective to improve the fluidity and fiber dispersion than superplasticizer.

  • HPFRCC(High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composite) is a class of FRCCs(Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composites) that exhibit multiple cracking. Multiple cracking leads to improvement in properties such as ductility, toughness, fracture energy, strain hardening, strain capacity, and deformation capacity under tension, compression, and bending. These improved properties of HPFRCCs have triggered unique and versatile structural applications, including damage reduction, damage tolerance, energy absorption, crack distribution, deformation compatibility, and delamination resistance. These mechanical properties of HPFRCCs become different from the kinds and shapes of used fiber, and it is known that the effective size of fiber in macro crack is different from that in micro crack. This paper reports an experimental findings on the mechanical properties of HPFRCCs reinforced with the micro fiber(PP50, PVA100 and PVA200) and macro fiber(PVA660, SF500). Uniaxial compressive tests and three point bending tests are carried out in order to compare with the mechanical properties of HPFRCCs reinforced with micro fibers or hybrid fibers such as compressive strength, ultimate bending stress, toughness, deformation capacity and crack pattern under bending, etc.,

  • In general, high strength and high performance fiber reinforced cement composites exclude coarse aggregates basically in order to have homogeneous distributions of material properties. However, these fiber-reinforced cement mortar without coarse aggregate have a tenancy that the modulus of elasticity is low and the unit weight of cement is high, resulting in low economic efficiency. Therefore, in this study, the development of high ductile fiber - reinforced concrete was conducted, which has the adequate level of coarse aggregate but still retains the high flexural toughness and strength and also has the crack - distributing performance. Experimental study was carried out by using the amount of coarse aggregate as an experimental parameter. The results showed that the best flexural toughness and crack dispersion characteristics was obtained when the coarse aggregate was added at 25% by weight of the fine aggregate to the typical mixtures of high ductile cement mortar. PVA fiber was effective in crack distribution and ductility enhancement, and steel fiber was effective in strengthening flexural strength rather than crack distribution.

  • Cellulose fibers, being fairly strong and stiff as well as cheap and plentiful with low energy demand during manufacture, are strong contenders for the reinforcement of cement-based materials. Cellulose fiber-cement composites, generally manufactured by slurry-dewatering procedure, can find applications in the production of flat and corrugated cement sheets and many other thin-sheet cement products. This paper presents the results of an experimental study concerned with the effects of fiber content and moisture conditions on the flexural performance of these composites. An effort was also made to study the effect of pozzolanic admixtures on the flexural performance in different moisture conditions. The test results obtained were analyzed statistically using the analysis of variance in order to derive reliable conclusions. The results generated in this study were indicative of significant effects of fiber content and moisture condition of flexural performance. There is a tendency in flexural strength to increase in increase in fiber content up to 8%: flexural toughness values continue to increase even at higher fiber contents. Moisture content has a significant effect on the flexural performance. There is a tendency in flexural strength to decrease and flexural toughness to increase with increasing moisture content Composites incorporating pozzolans showed an increase in the flexural strength while slightly reducing the flexural toughness and were sensitive to variations in moisture content.

  • For the construction materials, concrete, as the most widely used material, is focused on its improvement of performance. Although concrete has many advantages of easiness of handling, economical benefits, and high compressive strength, low tensile strength, brittleness and drying shrinkage are reported as the drawbacks of concrete. Hence, to solve these drawbacks of concrete, many research has conducted especially using fiber-reinforced concrete technology. Especially, HPFRCC which has high volume of fiber reinforcement was suggested as a solution of these drawbacks of normal concrete with increased ductility while it has the possibility of workability loss with fiber clumping which can cause low performance of concrete. Therefore, in this paper, optimized fiber combination with either or both metal and organic fibers is suggested to provide better performance of HPFRCC in tensile strength and ductility. As the results of experiment, better workability was achieved with 1 % of single fiber rather than multiple fibers combinations, espeically, short steel fiber showed the best workability result. Furthermore, in the case of organic fibers which showed higher air content than steel fibers, higher compressive strength was achieved while lower tensile and flexural strength were shown.

  • UHPC has high performance, high strength and excellent mechanical properties. Moreover UHPC(Ultra High Performance Cementitious Composite) has advantage to reduce cross section under the same load compared with other kinds of concrete. But silica fume which is imported from foreign country has a abundant portion in UHPC mixture in comparison with normal concrete. This is one of the main reason to raise the construction cost. Superior mechanical properties of UHPC due to the optimum filling composition can be changed by replacing the very fine ingredient. The purpose of this research is to grasp the characteristic of UHPC which silica fume and silica flour is replaced with limestone powder. This experiment can be divided into three classes according to the kinds of replacement. The compressive strength and flow of all types were measured and microstructure and hydration phenomena for comparing RPC were analyzed by SEM, XRD, NMR method. As a result, the replacement can be considered to be effective by for the decrease of the UHPC structure construction cost and improvement of the fresh UHPC.
