  • This study conducted a 3-stage survey and simulation experiment to identify the impact of vehicle platoons on car-following behavior of manually-driven vehicles. Vehicle maneuvering data obtained from driving simulations was statistically analyzed based on three measures including average speed, acceleration noise, and offset to represent the deviation of lateral movements. Results indicate that MV drivers tended to have psychological burden while driving in automated vehicle platooning environments, which resulted in different vehicle maneuvers. It is expected that the outcome of this study would be useful fundamentals in developing various traffic operations strategies for managing mixed traffic stream consisting of MVs and autonomous vehicles.

  • Japan has generally been considered as the developmentalist welfare state. However, Japan has recently been transformed into a social investment state. Although it still has a developmentalist characteristics with its institutional path dependence, the new social and economic challenges derived from the new social risks such as low birth rates and aging population forced Japan to adopt a new welfare state strategy. The paradigm shift in terms of welfare state strategy was launched by the Third Way positioning of the Democratic party government and succeed to the Second Stage of Abenomics under the Third Abe Cabinet. This paper argues that the welfare state paradigm shift towards a social investment state in Japan is not limited to the Japan's Plan for Dynamic Engagement of All Citizens for a virtuous cycle of growth and distribution, but expands its scope to include the work-family balance policies such as labor market activation for women and public caring for children.

  • On-line shopping allows consumers to order goods via internet and receive them at homes or workplaces. Emergence of online shopping industry has brought the changes in the structure of freight industry, in the location selection pattern of industrial clusters and in the consumer's travel pattern. This trend is likely to continue, especially in Korea, as the society sees increases in women's participation in workforce, in population of the elder and in production pattern of manufacturing individually customized goods. Despite on-line shopping's heavy influence on travel demand, no study on this particular topic has been done yet, and thus the effect of on-line shopping on travel demand has not been properly reflected on policy making process. This paper suggests the transportation strategy to cope with this change based on the analysis of the effect of on-line shopping on personal travel demand.

  • This study attempted to examine the research trends of single-person households with disabilities using a systematic literature review research method. To this end, 2,161 papers published by September 30, 2023 were searched in a total of four databases: KCI, RISS, KISS, and e-Articl, combining related search terms such as single-person households with disabilities, single-person households and disabled person living alone. In five stages, irrelevant literature to single-person households with disabilities was excluded, and the final 13 documents were selected and analyzed. As a result of the study, first, research topics were classified into research topics for single-person households, analysis of the actual conditions and related factors, issues and support measures related to single-person households, and three case studies related to single-person households. Second, women, age, income, interpersonal skills, health, unemployment, and family support are lower in single-person households with disabilities.
