The Effects on Mathematical Communication and Disposition for the Writing Mathematics Letters in Secondary Mathematics Education (수학에 관한 편지 쓰기 활동이 고등학생의 수학적 의사소통 및 성향에 미치는 영향)

  • In this paper, we study the effects on mathematical communication and disposition for the writing mathematics letters in secondary mathematics education. For this purpose we construct a experimental class and then analyse the students' change in those aspects after applying writing mathematics letters made some significant changes on the students communication in mathematics and disposition. First. the results for this purpose on regarding the enhancement of mathematical communication are effective. Second, the results on regarding the improvement of disposition are effective.

An analysis of characteristics of mathematically gifted high school students' thinking in design activities using GrafEq (GrafEq를 활용한 디자인 활동에서 나타나는 수학영재아의 사고특성분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate characteristics of mathematically gifted high school students' thinking in design activities using GrafEq. Eight mathematically gifted high school students, who already learned graphs of functions and inequalities necessary for design activities, were selected to work in pairs in our experiment. Results indicate that logical thinking and mathematical abstraction, intuitive and structural insights, flexible thinking, divergent thinking and originality, generalization and inductive reasoning emerged in the design activities. Nonetheless, fine-grained analysis of their mathematical activities also implies that teachers for gifted students need to emphasize both geometric and algebraic aspects of mathematical subjects, especially, algebraic expressions, and the tasks for the students are to be rich enough to provide a variety of ways to simplify the expressions.

  • In this paper, we saw how high school students have affection mathematical journal writing and how mathematical journal writing affects high school students mathematical attitude we got the conclusion of this research through case study as following; First, through mathematical journal writing, while research participants feel sense of accomplishment, feel buren about exposure of their own ideas. Second. mathematical journal writing makes students. think self-examination and benefits mathematical comprehension process. Third, mathematical journal writing changes students' studying attitude positively and makes students participate actively in class.

Development of teaching and learning materials by using GeoGebra and it's application effects for high school mathematically gifted students (GeoGebra를 활용한 교수.학습이 과학고등학교 수학영재들의 인지적 측면에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is inquire the reaction and adaptability of the mathematically gifted student, in the case of introduce learning materials based on GeoGebra in real class. The study program using GeoGebra consist of 'construction of fundamental figures', 'making animation with using slider tools' (graph of a function, trace of a figure, definite integral, fixed point, and draw a parametric curve), make up the group report after class. In detail, 1st to 15th classes are mainly problem-solving, and topic-exploring classes. To analyze the application effects of developed learning materials, divide students in four groups and lead them to make out their own creative products. In detail, guide students to make out their own report about mathematical themes that based on given learning materials. Concretely, build up the program to make up group report about their own topics in six weeks, after learning on various topics. Expert panel concluded that developed learning materials are successfully stimulate student's creativity in various way, after analyze of the student's activities. Moreover, those learning programs also contributed to the develop of the mathematical ability to thinking that necessary to writing a report. As well, four creative products are assessed as connote mathematically gifted student's creative thinking and meaningful elements in mathematical aspects.

An Analysis of Mathematical Thinking and Strategies Appeared in Solving Mathematical Puzzles (수학퍼즐 해결과정에서 나타나는 수학적 사고와 전략)

  • Despite the popularity and convenient accessibility of puzzles, the variety of puzzles have led to a lack of research on the nature of the puzzle itself. In guiding certain skills, such as abstractness, creativity, and logic, a teacher should have the thinking skill and strategy that appear in solving puzzles. In this study, the mathematical thinking that appears in solving puzzles from the perspective of experts is identified, and the strategies and characteristics are described and classified accordingly. For this purpose, we analyzed 85 math puzzles including the well-know puzzles to the public, plus puzzles from a popular book for the gifted student. The research analysis shows that there are 6 types of mathematics puzzles in which require mathematical thinking.

High-school students' understanding and use of mathematics textbooks (수학 교과서에 대한 고등학생의 인식 및 활용)

  • The study aimed to investigate what high-school students recognize mathematics textbooks and how they use textbooks in their learning mathematics in and out-of mathematics classrooms. For this purpose, we developed a set of interview questions in order to unpack what high-school students thought about mathematics textbooks and how they intended to use the textbooks for their learning mathematics. Eleven high-school students participated in the interview; the interview lasted for about an hour for each student. The data from the interviews were analyzed. The findings from the data analysis suggested as follows: a) the students seemed to consider mathematics textbooks as crucial medium for a mathematics classroom material and thus, they were likely to obliged to use the textbooks for preparing for not only tests and examination conducted regularly in schools but college entrance examination conducted nationwide; b) however, the students appeared to use the textbooks in limited ways in which they looked into the textbooks to prepare for mid-term or final exam only, not for their understanding mathematical contents as a main resource; and c) the students seemed to realize that they rarely have had an opportunity to develop mathematical thinking capabilities and understand mathematical ideas conceptually through the mathematics textbooks.

학교수학에서 경험적 일반화와 이론적 일반화의 고찰

  • 수학적인 사고에는 여러 가지 유형이 있는데 그 중에서 가장 기본이 되는 사고유형 중의 하나가 일반화이다. 수학에서 일반화는 지식을 발견 및 발명할 뿐만 아니라 새로운 수학 이론을 확립해 나가는데 중요한 역할을 한다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 일반화를 경험적 일반화와 이론적 일반화로 구분하였고, 일반화에 대한 선행연구를 바탕으로 이 두 유형의 일반화에 대해 고찰한다. 또한, 두 유형의 일반화에 대한 학교수학에서의 다양한 예를 찾아 제시할 뿐 아니라 새로운 예를 제시함으로써 경험적 일반화와 이론적 일반화의 개념이 정립될 수 있도록 한다. 마지막으로 중학교 및 고등학교에서 다루는 한 가지 학습내용을 통해 경험적 일반화와 이론적 일반화에 대한 체계적인 분석을 실시하고 교육적인 시사점을 제시한다.

On the Attractive Teaching Methods of Mathematics for High School students in Island's region (도서지역 고등학생을 위한 흥미로운 수학지도 방안)

  • In this study, the goal is to spread profound knowledge and theory through providing with accumulated methods in mathematics education to the students who are relatively neglected in educational benefits. The process is divided into 3 categories: mathematics for obtaining common sense and intelligence, practical math for application, and math as a liberal art to elevate their characters. Furthermore, it includes the reasons for studying math, improving problem-solving skills, machinery application learning, introduction to code(cipher) theory and game theory, utilizing GSP to geometry learning, and mathematical relations to sports and art. Based on these materials, the next step(goal) is to train graduate students to conduct researches in teaching according to the teaching plan, as well as developing interesting and effective teaching plan for the remote high school learners.

  • This study analyzed Japan, Taiwan, Hongkong, Finland, and China National Mathematics Curriculums to find the implications to improve Korean High school Mathematics curriculum. First, at the aspect of mathematics education goals, we can consider to select the logical thinking, the use of mathematics, and the mathematical inquiry in the cognitive domain and self-confidence, brevity, a sense of accomplishment, and the value of mathematics in the affective domain. Second, when high students consider their course, he/she should be able to select mathematics subjects according to her/his desired career and/or major. Third, I found that sine rule, cosine rule and correlation were included as compulsory contents of Japan, Taiwan and China but not Korea. Finally I suggest that we need to show and explain kindly the range of the contents and to develop the Korean mathematics curriculum model.
