In this paper, the author analyzes direction finding accuracy based on phase comparisons to estimate elevation and azimuth angles of arrival signals. This paper considers the uniform array configurations using four and three elements. In that direction finding structures, I present the analytic expressions for estimated elevation and azimuth angles and then analyze the direction finding errors. And one presents the design guideline of direction finding system in comparison with aspects of accuracy, structure, the number of channels in that structures. The analysis result is similar with simulation one and has difference within $1.2^{\circ}RMS$. From the proposed analysis results, one knows that when SNR is 20 dB and the baseline is half of wavelength, the estimated elevation accuracy of the uniform array using four elements is 1.15 times better than the one of the uniform array using three elements and the estimated azimuth accuracy is same each other. In addition, one knows coning error is eliminated in 2-D direction finding structure.
This paper describes the design of a simulator for analyzing the accuracy of a correlative interferometer(CI) direction finder. CI direction finder is robust to noise, so it is often used in aircraft or ships where complex antenna installation is required, and the direction finding accuracy is very high. When the radio wave is incident at a specific azimuth angle, the phase difference calculated in a noiseless environment and the phase difference measured in a real environment with noise are fused to estimate the largest correlation coefficient as the azimuth angle of the radio wave. The simulator receives RF frequency, the number of antennas, the antenna coordinates, the transmission signal intensity, the bandwidth of the receiver, the gain and the payload effect, and calculates the direction finding accuracy of 0-360 degrees azimuth and 0-60 degree elevation with 0.5 degree. accuracy.

In this study, for the purpose of collecting and analyzing target-specific RCS data of target signals simulator for verification/improvement of radar system performance, VHF band monostatic/bistatic RCS of civil aircraft(B-747, B-737) and fighter(F-16) models were analyzed by EM simulation tool. In order to reduce the RCS analysis time, the analysis time and RCS data were compared and cross-verified. Also, the analysis range was selected by examining the interpolation error according to the analysis angle resolution. The RCS data obtained for each model were analyzed separately by the incident/reflection elevation angle and frequency. The RCS characteristics according to the shape of the aircraft and the incident/reflection azimuth angle were described. Finally, the statistical RCS distribution value of each model is presented through RCS distribution histogram analysis. In the future, the RCS database obtained by this study will be used for the target signals simulator of the VHF band radar system.

In this study, a Ka-band waveguide rotary joint that can be applied to a millimeter-wave seeker is designed and fabricated. The proposed rotary joint maintains a low standing-wave ratio and low-loss characteristics, and has two rotary axes designed to enable azimuth and elevation rotation. The rotary joint is designed as a ridge-waveguide-type mode converter and a ${\lambda}/4$ choke structure to match the electromagnetic wave propagation mode between the spherical and circular waveguides. A performance test using a network analyzer and a high-power transmitter to assess vibration and shock were conducted. Results showed that the rotary joint had a very low standing-wave ratio of less than the maximum of 1.19:1 and an insertion loss of less than 0.80 dB at $F_C{\pm}500MHz$.

The radar operated to detect/track aircraft targets is divided into a search radar that operates while the antenna rotating device rotates for the purpose of detecting the target according to the mission characteristics, and a tracking radar that periodically steers and tracks a beam to the predicted position of the target. The tracking radar has a shorter target information acquisition preiod than the search radar. Due to this characteristic, the tracking accuracy is better than that of the search radar, but as the prediction error increases due to the speed error at the beginning of the tracking, there are many cases in which tracking fails at the beginning of tracking due to failure to perform beam steering normally. In this paper, in order to solve the above-mentioned problems, we propose an algorithm for improving the accuracy of track initiation using radial velocity measurements in addition to the position of the measured, and confirm the performance of the proposed algorithm by comparing with the two point differential algorithm
In this paper, the tracking error of monopulse radar caused by cross-eye jamming using terrain bounce is analyzed. Cross-eye jamming is a method of generating an error in a radar tracking system by simultaneously transmitting two signals with different phases and amplitudes. When the monopulse radar receives the cross-eye jamming signal generated by the terrain bounce, a tracking error occurs in the elevation direction. In the presence of multipath, this signal is a combination of the direct target return and a return seemingly emanating from the target image beneath the terrain surface. Terrain bounce jamming has the advantage of using a single jammer, but the space affecting the jamming is limited by the terrain reflection angle and the degree of scattering of the terrain. This study can be usefully used to protect ships from low-altitude missiles or aircraft in the sea.

Mine detection has been mainly studied with images of the forward-looking sonar. Forward-looking sonar assumes the propagation path of the sound wave as a straight path, creating the surrounding images. This might lead to errors in the detection by ignoring the refraction of the sound wave. In this study, we propose a mine localization method that can robustly identify the location of mines in an underwater environment by considering the refraction of sound waves. We propose a method of estimating the elevation angle of arrival of the target echo signal in a single receiver, and estimate the mine location by applying the estimated elevation angle of arrival to ray tracing. As a result of simulation, the method proposed in this paper was more effective in estimating the mine localization than the existing method that assumed the propagation path as a straight line.
The objective of this study is to optimize the shape of doubly curved surface where a conformal array is equipped. That surface is modeled with a double-ellipsoid solid controlled by four parameters. By analyzing the performance of the conformal array beams with the beam pattern synthesis, two design parameters are determined. Then, we define the weighted object function which is formulated as the sum of sharp indexes for directivity index, the elevation resolution, and the bearing resolution. The direct calculation on all grids is used to evaluate the weighted object function and seek the optimal value of two design parameters when the weightings are given. In the simulation, four kinds of weighting cases are respectively applied to evaluate the weighted object function. The optimal shapes of double-ellipsoid solid are shown in each case. Especially, when the uniform weightings are used, the double-ellipsoid solid with more smooth surface is obtained.
Large scale model tests and numerical analyses are performed to investigate the stress distribution of pillar due to surface loading nearby two-arch tunnel which is constructed in the regularly jointed rocks. It is observed that the influence of discontinuities on the stress distribution in the discontinuous rock mass and the underground stresses induced by surface loading are greater than those of linear elastic theory. Especially, lines of equal stresses are developed to the direction of inclination according to the inclined grade. In cases of discontinuities imbedded in parallel with or vertical to the ground, the pressure bulbs are formed symmetrically, however, the inclined ones result in stress distribution in parallel with and vertical to the planes of discontinuities. Results indicated that stress distribution is seriously affected by the angle of discontinuity. When stresses propagating to the pillar need to be estimated, relative location of surface loading, grade of discontinuous plane, and location of two-arch tunnel should be carefully considered.
This paper examined the characteristics of ductile and brittle structural elements with detailed mapping by lithofacies classification to clarify the relationship between the geological structure and the geochemical high-grade uranium anormal zone and to provide the basic information on the flow of groundwater in the eastern area of Shinbo mine, Jinan-gun, Jeollabuk-do, Korea. It indicates that this area is mainly composed of Precambrian quartzite, metapelite, metapsammite, which show a zonal distribution of mainly ENE-WSW trend, and age unknown pegmatite and Cretaceous porphyry which intrude them. But the Cretaceous Jinan Group which unconformably covers them, contrary to assumption, could not be observed. The main ductile deformation structures of Precambrian metasedimentary rocks were formed at least through three phases of deformation [ENE striking regional foliation (D1) -> ENE or EW striking crenulation foliation (D2) -> WNW or EW trending open, tight, kink folds (D3)]. The predominant orientation of S1 regional foliation strikes ENE and dips south, being similar to the zonal distribution of Precambrian metasedimentary rocks. Most predominant orientation of high-angled brittle fracture (dip angle ${\geq}45^{\circ}$) [ENE (frequency: 24.3%) > NS (23.9%) > (N)NW (18.8%) > WNW (16.9%) > NE (16.1%) fracture sets in descending frequency order], which is closely related to the flow of groundwater, strikes ENE and dips south. It also agrees with the zonal distribution of metasedimentary rocks and the predominant orientation of S1 regional foliation. The next one strikes NS and dips east or west. Considering the controlling factor of the geochemical uranium anormal zone in the Shinbo mine and its eastern areas from the above structural data. the uranium source rock in these areas might be pegmatite and the geochemical uranium anormal zone in the Sinbo mine area could be formed by an secondary enrichment through the flow of pegmatite aquifer's groundwater into the Sinbo mine area like the previous research's result.
