  • A computer simulation is performed on the effectiveness of the active minimization of harmonically excited enclosed sound fields for producing global reduction in the amplitude of the pressure fluctuations. In this study for the appreciable reductions in total time averaged acoustic potential energy, $E_{pp}$, the transducer location strategies for three dimensional active noise control is presented based on a state space modal which approximates the closed acoustic field. In this study, the above theoretical basis is used to investigate the application of active control to sound fields of low modal density. By the used of room-like 3-dimensional rectangular enclosure it is demonstrated that the reductions in $E_{pp}$ can be achieved by using a single secondary source, provided that the source is placed within the half a wavelength from the primary source and placed away from nodal line of the sound field. Concerning the reductions in $E_{pp}$ by minimzing the pressure in sound fields by the use of 3-dimensional rectangular enclosure, the effects of the number of sensors and the locations of these sensors are investigated. When a few modes dominate the response it is found that if only a limited number of sensors are located away from nodal line and located at the pressure maxima of the sound field such as at each corner of a rectangular enclosure.

  • The probability density function(PDF) for the amplitude of the reflectivity of low-grazing-angle sea clutter has generally been modeled by a compound-Gaussian distribution, rather than by the Rayleigh distribution, owing to the intensity variation of each clutter patch over time. The texture component forming the reflectivity has been simulated by combining Gamma distribution and memory-less nonlinear transformation(MNLT). On the other hand, there is no typical method available that can be used to simulate the speckle component. We first review Watt's method, wherein the speckle is simulated starting from the Doppler spectrum of the received echoes that is modeled as having a Gaussian shape. Then, we introduce a newly proposed method. The proposed method simulates the speckle by manipulating a clutter covariance matrix through the Cholesky decomposition after minimizing the effect of adjacent clutter patches using an equalizer. The feasibility of the proposed method is validated through simulation, wherein the results from two methods are compared in terms of the Doppler spectrum and the correlation function.

  • This paper presents exact solutions for the free vibrations and buckling of rectangular plates having two opposite, simply supported edges subjected to linearly varying normal stresses causing pure in-plane moments, the other two edges being free. Assuming displacement functions which are sinusoidal in the direction of loading (x), the simply supported edge conditions are satisfied exactly. With this the differential equation of motion for the plate is reduced to an ordinary one having variable coefficients (in y). This equation is solved exactly by assuming power series in y and obtaining its proper coefficients (the method of Frobenius). Applying the free edge boundary conditions at y=0, b yields a fourth order characteristic determinant for the critical buckling moments and vibration frequencies. Convergence of the series is studied carefully. Numerical results are obtained for the critical buckling moments and some of their associated mode shapes. Comparisons are made with known results from less accurate one-dimensional beam theory. Free vibration frequency and mode shape results are also presented. Because the buckling and frequency parameters depend upon Poisson's ratio ( V ), results are shown for $0{\leq}v{\leq}0.5$, valid for isotropic materials.

  • A three-dimensional Galerkin-FEM model which can handle the temporal and spatial variation of density is presented. The hydrostatic approximation is used and density effects are included by means of conservation equation of heat and the equation of state. The finite difference grids are used in the horizontal plane and a set of linear-shape functions is used for the vertical expansion. The similarity transform is introduced to solve resultant matrix equations. The proposed model was first applied to the density-driven circulation in an idealized basin in the presence of the heat exchange between the air and the sea. The advection terms in the momentum equation were ignored, while the convection terms were retained in the heat equation. Coefficients of the vertical eddy viscosity and diffusivity were fixed to be constant. Calculation in a non-rotating idealized basin shows that the difference in heat capacity with depth gives rise to the horizontal gradient of temperature. Consequently, there is a steady new in the upper layer in the direction of increasing depth with compensatory counter flow .in the lower layer. With Coriolis force, geostrophic flow was predominant due to the balance between the pressure gradient and the Coriolis force. As a test in region of irregular topography, the model is applied to the Yellow Sea. Although the resultant flow was very complex, the character of the flow Showed to be geostrophic on the whole.

  • In this paper, an efficient design of HEVC Adaptive Loop Filter(ALF) for filter coefficients estimation is proposed. The ALF performs Cholesky decomposition of $10{\times}10$ matrix iteratively to estimate filter coefficients. The Cholesky decomposition of the ALF consists of root and division operation which is difficult to implement in a hardware design because it needs to many computation rate and processing time due to floating-point unit operation of large values of the Maximum 30bit in a LCU($64{\times}64$). The proposed hardware architecture is implemented by designing a root operation based on Cholesky decomposition by using multiplexer, subtracter and comparator. In addition, The proposed hardware architecture of efficient and low computation rate is implemented by designing a pipeline architecture using characteristic operation steps of Cholesky decomposition. An implemented hardware is designed using Xilinx ISE 14.3 Vertex-6 XC6VCX240T FPGA device and can support a frame rate of 40 4K Ultra HD($4096{\times}2160$) frames per second at maximum operation frequency 150MHz.

  • In this study, the development of a weight estimation model of electronic scale with nonlinear characteristics is presented using polynomial regression analysis. The output voltage of the load cell was measured directly using the reference mass. And a polynomial regression model was obtained using the matrix and curve fitting function of MS Office Excel. The weight was measured in 100g units using a load cell electronic scale measuring up to 5kg and the polynomial regression model was obtained. The error was calculated for simple($1^{st}$), $2^{nd}$ and $3^{rd}$ order polynomial regression. To analyze the suitability of the regression function for each model, the coefficient of determination was presented to indicate the correlation between the estimated mass and the measured data. Using the third order polynomial model proposed here, a very accurate model was obtained with a standard deviation of 10g and the determinant coefficient of 1.0. Based on the theory of multi regression model presented here, it can be used in various statistical researches such as weather forecast, new drug development and economic indicators analysis using logistic regression analysis, which has been widely used in artificial intelligence fields.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of environment factors on the growth of autumn season cultivation of Kimchi cabbage using the big data in terms of public open data(weather, soil information, and growth of crop, etc.). The growth data and the environment data such as temperature, daylength, and rainfall from 2010 to 2019 were collected. As a result of composing the correlation matrix, the height and leaf number showed high correlation in growing degree days(GDDs) and daylength, and the yield showed negative correlation in growing degree days and the concentration of clay. GDDs and daylength explained about 89% and 84% of variation in height, respectively. These two environmental factors also explained about 85% and 79% of variation in leaf numbers, respectively. In contrast, the coefficient of determination was low for yield when GDDs and concentration of clay was used. The outcome of regional statistical analysis indicated that relationship between yield and sum of sand and silt were high in Haenam and Jindo areas. Hierarchical cluster analysis, which was performed to verify the association of yield, GDDs, and concentration of clay, showed that Haenam and Jindo were clustered together. Although GDDs and yield vary by year and region, and there are regions with similar concentration of clays, observation data are grouped as the result. These suggests that GDDs and soil texture are expected to be related to yield. The cluster analysis results can be used for further data analysis and agricultural policy establishment.

  • Purpose: We evaluated the feasibility of extracting pure left ventricular blood pool and myocardial time-activity curves (TACs) and of generating factor images from human dynamic N-13 ammonia PET using factor analysis. The myocardial blood flow (MBF) estimates obtained with factor analysis were compared with those obtained with the user drawn region-of-interest (ROI) method. Materials and Methods: Stress and rest N-13 ammonia cardiac PET imaging was acquired for 23 min in 5 patients with coronary artery disease using GE Advance tomograph. Factor analysis generated physiological TACs and factor images using the normalized TACs from each dixel. Four steps were involved in this algorithm: (a) data preprocessing; (b) principal component analysis; (c) oblique rotation with positivity constraints; (d) factor image computation. Area under curves and MBF estimated using the two compartment N-13 ammonia model were used to validate the accuracy of the factor analysis generated physiological TACs. The MBF estimated by factor analysis was compared to the values estimated by using the ROI method. Results: MBF values obtained by factor analysis were linearly correlated with MBF obtained by the ROI method (slope = 0.84, r = 0.91), Left ventricular blood pool TACs obtained by the two methods agreed well (Area under curve ratio: 1.02 ($0{\sim}1min$), 0.98 ($0{\sim}2min$), 0.86 ($1{\sim}2min$)). Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrates that MBF can be measured accurately and noninvasively with dynamic N-13 ammonia PET imaging and factor analysis. This method is simple and accurate, and can measure MBF without blood sampling, ROI definition or spillover correction.

  • This study is to structurally examine the regional income disparity in Korea. It measures the regional income inducement by household consumption expenditure per unit income, and the regional interdependency of income using 2005 and 2015 Regional Input-Output Tables of 16 provincial regions of Korea. The results are as follows. Firstly, the income inducement by consumption expenditure per unit income decreased overall, mainly due to the decrease in the income inducement of other regions than due to that of their region. Secondly, in many regions, the inter-relational income dependency per unit income decreased also, this too, mainly due to the decrease in the income transfer to other region. And, the income inducement effects of consumption expenditure per unit income of Seoul and Gyeonggi, which occupy a large portion of the Korean economy, were lower than that of other regions, but took the largest portion of income inducements generated by other regions as well as by themselves and absorbed the income transfers from other regions the most. The higher income inducement and income absorption in Seoul and Gyeonggi by consumption expenditure of other regions were mainly because of the high share in service of their consumption structure, the progress in tertiarization of their industrial structure, and the high wage portion. These results also mean that viewed from the regional interdependency of income, the income of Seoul and that of Gyeonggi are highly dependent on the income of other regions. Especially, Gyeonggi which leads the overseas exports of high-tech based manufactured products, has other external factors that contribute to their high income inducement, whereas, Seoul which shows high income absorption using its inter-relations with other domestic regions based on the services, has an income-generating structure that is sensitive to other regions' economic situation. Amid overall declines in regional income inducements and in income transfers, and continuing concentrations into Seoul and Gyeonggi regions, to alleviate the regional disparity, the regional industry policies should, rather than benchmarking the policies of the two concentrated regions, enhance their own inter-regional relationships by strengthening the comparative advantage of their regionally specialized industry.

  • Digital Video (DV) coding standards for digital video cassette recorder are based mainly on DCT and variable length coding. DV has low hardware complexity but high compressed bit rate of about 26 Mb/s. Thus, it is necessary to encode video with low complex video coding at the studios and then transcode compressed video into MPEG-2 for video-on-demand system. Because these coding methods exploit DCT, transcoding in the DCT domain can reduce computational complexity by excluding duplicated procedures. In transcoding DV into MPEC-2 intra coding, multiplying matrix by transformed data is used for 4:1:1-to-4:2:2 chroma format conversion and the conversion from 2-4-8 to 8-8 DCT mode, and therefore enables parallel processing. Variance of sub block for MPEG-2 rate control is computed completely in the DCT domain. These are verified through experiments. We estimate motion hierarchically using DCT coefficients for transcoding into MPEG-2 inter coding. First, we estimate motion of a macro block (MB) only with 4 DC values of 4 sub blocks and then estimate motion with 16-point MB using IDCT of 2$\times$2 low frequencies in each sub block, and finish estimation at a sub pixel as the fifth step. ME with overlapped search range shows better PSNR performance than ME without overlapping.
