The Role and Necessity of a Stepmother in Fairy Tales Focused on "Kongji and Patji" and "Cinderella" (동화에서 계모의 역할과 필요성 - 『콩쥐팥쥐』와 『신데렐라』를 중심으로)

  • This study analyzes two fairy tales of similar plots in which stepmothers appear, "Kongji and Patji" and "Cinderella". The purpose was to investigate the role of a stepmother in a fairy tale and to examine the differences between the stepmothers in the two fairy tales mentioned above. Stepmothers in "Kongji and Patji" and "Cinderella" show similar tendencies but there were differences in the content of the tasks, as well as the evil actions of the stepmother after marriage. However, stepmothers who commit these cruel evil deeds were necessary for several reasons. First of all, children who cannot cope with psychological conflicts themselves can cope with contradictory emotions by projecting the guilt and psychological conflicts onto their stepmother and exposing themselves to their anger. Besides, they can understand the diversity of life and learn how to overcome pain, sorrow, and hardship. A fairy tale in which a stepmother plays a role is of educational significance in that it teaches lessons to children by showing that in the end, the wicked are punished and good people live a happy life. This helps the child to have a positive self-identity.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the social perception of stepmother in social media and news. For this purpose, we analyzed the texts that were searched as 'stepmother' in Twitter and news articles. The main research results are as follows. The public perception is divided into two types: strengthening the negative image of the stepmother, and providing a positive alternative message to the negative image. Negative images were reported in the media as negative stereotypes about remarried families, as well as images of negative stepmother that afflicts stepchildren like fairy tales. Positive alternative messages were concerned about the negative perception of remarried families. Based on the results of this study, we discussed alternatives to avoid prejudice against stepmother.

  • 아동기에 읽은 동화는 일생에 걸쳐 가치관과 태도 형성에 중대한 영향을 주게 된다. 그런데 아동이 즐겨 보는 전래동화에서 대부분의 계부모-자녀관계가 부정적으로 다루어지고 있다. 이것은 현재와 같은 이혼의 증가로 인한 재혼가족의 증가 추세에서 사악한 계모의 상을 제시한 전래동화가 계부모-계자녀의 적응에 부정적인 영향을 더할 가능성을 시사한다. 이 연구에서는 서울 시내 남녀 대학생 271명을 대상으로 그들이 아동기에 읽은 계모-계자녀 관계를 다룬 3편의 전래동화가 그들에게 어떤 편견을 형성하였다고 판단하는 지를 조사하였다. 이를 위하여 질문지를 사용하였고, 분석을 위하여 빈도, 백분율, $\chi2$ 분석을 사용하였다. 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학생은 아동기에 백설공주라는 외국의 전래동화를 콩쥐팥쥐나 장화홍련전과 같은 한국 전래동화보다 더 많이 읽었고, 그 내용에 대해서도 더 잘 인지하고 있었다. 이런 경향은 여학생이 남학생보다 더욱 그러하였다. 둘째, 대학생은 백설공주, 콩쥐팥쥐, 장화홍련전에서 계모-계자녀간의 적응을 방해하는 부정적인 계모상을 연상하였다. 넷째, 여학생이 남학생보다 여성 주인 彭?계모에 대한 편견과 인지에 더욱 민감하였다. 다섯째, 이들 동화가 편견을 형성한다는 것을 인지하면서도, 절반 정도의 대학생은 이들 동화를 친지 아동에게 권하거나 선물하려고 한다.

  • This study attempted to investigate the issue how stepmother's narrative was transferred to . For this agenda, the approach of this paper is described below to determine how Bbaengdeok's stepmother narrative was transferred episodically to . First, this paper started from the relation between stepmother narrative and affiliated with each root folk tale in Buddhist text. Among known as root folk tale until now, this paper investigated whether was the root folk tale affiliated to Buddhist literature. At that point, stepmother narrative showed relation with opening eyes motive. It has been reported that the text of opening eyes in Buddhist literature is originated from the south. This paper confirmed that 's stepmother narrative was related to Buddhist literature originated from south. Next, this paper investigated the background of opening eyes motive of stepmother types. After entering Gyeongpan , it formed Bbaengdeok narrative of Wanpan related to Literary geography of Jeollado enjoying space of Wanpan . There are two evidences for this. The first one is which was passed down around Jeollado. In the course of sudden Buddhist folklore's flow into the country, it is that combined stepmother narrative of sudden Buddhist literature with the characteristics of northern Buddhist literature which was reconstructed into son's filial behavior of northern Buddhist literature to make father's blinded eyes open. The other is the Buddhist trend of the late 18th Chosun when northern Buddhist literature and sudden Buddhist literature were combined. It appeared that stepmother narrative was formed in the Buddhist background of the late 18th Chosun when northern Buddhist literature and sudden Buddhist literature were combined.

Cinematic Representation of Child Abuse and the Maternal Myth: A Narrative Analysis of and (아동학대의 재현과 모성 신화: <미쓰백>과 <어린 의뢰인>의 서사 분석을 중심으로)

  • Amid growing social interest in child abuse, and announced the seriousness of child abuse crimes and aroused public interest in related issues. Based on true stories and characters, both films created unique narratives about child abuse cases, but drew on the traditional representation and discursive construction of child abuse news articles. By setting the stepmother as the perpetrator and the father as the neglecter, the gender role of women as primary caregiver was reconfirmed and the stereotypical image of the 'evil stepmother' in popular narratives was exploited. The cinematic reenactment of the evil stepmother not only highlighted the normative family discourse, but also reinforced the maternal myth by emphasizing the binary opposition between the evil stepmother and the lost birth mother.

Type Variations of 'Stepmother' and 'Sister' in the Novels of Park Kyong-Ni and Their Meanings -Focused on Jaegwiyeol, Eunha, Kimyakgukeue Ddaldeul, Nabiwa Unggungkwi (박경리 장편소설의 '계모'·'자매' 유형 변화와 그 의미 -『재귀열』, 『은하』, 『김약국의 딸들』, 『나비와 엉겅퀴』를 중심으로)

  • This study analyzes type variations of the 'stepmother' and 'sister' in the full-length novels of Park Kyong-Ni and attempted to point out their meanings. The pattern of "negative stepmother" that appeared in classical and new novels also appeared repeatedly in Park Kyong-Ni's full-length novels and this was because a change took place in later full-length novels. Novels analyzed with focus were Jaegwiyeol(1959), Eunha(1960), Kimyakgukeue Ddaldeul(1962), and Nabiwa Unggungkwi(1969). The stepmother that appears in Eunha is a type that appears often in the classic and new novels of Korea. While the stepmother newly gained the role and status of 'mother', she forms a competitive relationship with the daughter of the former wife while still refusing to be a member of the family and she puts the former wife's daughter in critical situations by committing misdeeds. However, the young stepmother in Nabiwa Unggungkwi actually becomes a victim to the malicious and morbid harassment of the former wife's daughter. This stepmother is a good-natured figure who shows a sense of guilt for failing to fulfill her responsibilities of upbringing and education and she eventually dies as a victim to a bomb during the war, leaving her young biological daughter behind. On one hand, the sisters in Jaegwiyeol and Kimyakgukeue Ddaldeul are not strongly bonded but when one is caught in a crisis, the other one claims to be of help. Unlike this, the sisters in Nabiwa Unggungkwi have a bond that cannot be broken. They are half-sisters that bind each other so severely that they hinder each other's growth and they eventually end up disintegrating. Through such analyses, it is shown that issues of human nature are dealt with more acutely by breaking the 'young stepmother' away from convention by placing her in the position of the victim to amplify the conflicting relationship between sisters, unlike in previous pieces. This study was significant in that it looked into how previously repetitive character type changes appeared in full-length novels in conditions that clearly display the writer's determination to leave behind a masterpiece.

Computation of Wind-Driven Circulation in the East Sea (동해의 풍성류산정)

  • A three-dimensional barotropic model is used to compute meteorologically-induced circulations in the East Sea for monthly, seasonal and annual basis. The computed barotropic responses have shown that in the upper part of the 40$^{\circ}$ North latitude. counterclockwise meso-scale eddies have been formed off Dong Han Man, middle part of the East Sea and sea area between the Siberian coast and Hokkaido throughout the year except summer season. These results are in good agreements with some of earlier schematic circulation diagram.

  • 주암호는 전라남도와 광주광역시에 약 1,180,000톤/일의 생활용수와 공업용수를 공급하는 상수원이다. 상수원수계의 생활하수, 축산폐수, 숙박업소, 식당 등 점오염원과 주거지, 농경지, 산림지역에서 우수와 함께 유출되는 비점오염원으로부터 발생하는 오염부하량으로 이들 상수원의 수질은 점점 악화되어 3급수로 전락할 우려가 높아지고 있다. 이들 상수원의 수질관리에 있어 중요한 인자의 파악과 인자들간 상호작용의 이해를 용이하게 해주는 수계수질관리 부분생태계모형을 제시하였으며 지리정보체계를 응용하여 수계의 점오염원과 비점오염원을 데이터베이스화하는 방법, 오염부하량 산출방법, 점원 및 비점오염원의 공간분석, 상수원 보호구역으로부터 완충구역분석, 위성자료 분석을통한 상수원 수계 토지이용분석과 비점오염원 부하량산출 응용 방법등을 연구하였다 분석결과 주암호수계의 BOD 부하량은 주거지. 생활하수, 축산폐수, 경작지, 식당이 차지하는 비율이 높으며 총질소 부하량은 경작지, 산림, 생활하수, 추간폐수가 높으며 그리고 총인 부하량은 생활하수, 축산폐수, 경작지가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 점오염원인 생활하수, 축산폐수, 식당 뿐만 아니라 비점오염원인 경작지도 수질오염에 상당한 영향을 미치고 있다.

Some Aspects of Thai culture on the folktale "Pla Boo Thong" (태국 민담 <쁠라 부텅>류에 나타난 태국인의 문화적 특성)

  • There are many versions of the thai folktale "Pla Boo Thong" in Thailand, which is a typical type of stepmother story and in many ways resembles Cinderella story. This study, the author took 6 versions, some from books, some from internet. The main story of those 6 version is consist of the death of mother, stepmother and step sister, the maltreat of the stepmother to the heroine, tiding over the critical moments with the help of the dead mother and others, getting married with the king and happy of the heroine, death of the heroine by the slander of stepmother, posing as a queen of the stepsister, reincarnation of the dead heroine, meeting with the king again, and punishment and the stepmother and stepsister. The main theme of this narrative is a conflict in the polygamic family and is followed by the pattern of the Cinderella tale such as the distinct contrast of Good and Evil. This tale also teaches teachings of Buddha such as the punitive justice, the promotion of virtue and reproval of vice, and forgiveness. And otherwise it gives the people the courage and hope to overcome fortitude in their life.

Analysis of Newspaper Articles on Child Abuse Deaths (아동학대 사망사건에 대한 신문기사 분석)

  • Although fatalities due to child abuse are frequently happened, there has been a dearth of research on the topic. The present research analyzes deaths due to child abuse in representative newspapers in order to examine incidences, causes, and characteristics of child abuse. The results showed that from 2000 to 2012 child abuse deaths occurred 141 cases. Most deaths due to child abuse were committed by single mothers, biological mothers, cohabiting women and stepmothers, and biological fathers. As regards the reasons of deaths due to child abuse, the frequency of newborn infant deaths as the result of abuse by single mother or single parent was the highest, and lack of parenting skills, postpartum depression, hardships of living and lack of financial abilities were followed. Also, subjects received extensive media coverage were crime compositions-stereotypes of child abusers, habitual and continual child abuse, lack of child abuse reporting and prevention system, and mild penalties. Finally, based on the results of the study, the implications to prevent and resolve deaths due to child abuse were discussed.
