Synergistic Surface Activities and Phase Behavior in Mixtures of a Diglyceryl Cationic Surfactant and a Conventional Anionic Surfactant (디글리세릴계 양이온계면활성제와 일반 음이온계면활성제 혼합물에서의 계면활성 상승효과와 상거동)

  • In general, anionic and cationic surfactants are incompatible because their mixtures form insoluble complexes and precipitate in the water. There are, however, some equimolar complexes of anionic and cationic surfactant that are soluble and behave like regular surfactants, specifically like nonionic surfactants, thus named pseudo-nonionic surfactant complexes. Pseudo-nonionic complexes are more effective and efficient in surface activities than their ionic surfactant components as shown by their equilibrium and dynamic surface tensions. They pack at the interface more than their ionic components. When a novel cationic surfactant, diglyceryl dodecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride(DGDAC), having the polyhydroxyl group at the hydrophilic head group, was mixed with a conventional anionic surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulfate; SDS) at equimolar ratio, we found that the aqueous equimolar mixture showed strong positive synergism in which molecular interaction parameter ${\beta}^M$ was very low, -17.2. According to the studies of equilibrium phase behavior and microscopy, this mixed system could form homogenous solutions containing vesicles.

  • In the high convective gas flow condition, irregular shaped water waves from which droplet entrainment occurs are generated under horizontally stratified two-phase flow condition. KAERI proposed a new mechanistic droplet entrainment model based on the momentum balance equation consisting of the shear stress, surface tension, and gravity forces. However, this model requires correlation or experimental data of several physical parameters related to the wave characteristics. In the present study, we tried to measure the physical parameters such as wave slope, wave hypotenuse length, wave velocity, wave frequency, and wavelength experimentally. For this, an experiment was conducted in the horizontal rectangular channel of which width, height, and length are, respectively, 40 mm, 50 mm, and 4.2 m. In the present test, the working fluids are chosen as air and water. The PIV technique was applied not only to obtain images for phase interface waves but also to measure the velocity field of the water flow. Additionally, we developed the parallel wire conductance probe for the confirmation of wave height from PIV image. Finally, we measured the physical parameters to be used in the validation of new droplet entrainment model.

Effect of Cosurfactant on Phase Equilibrium and Dynamic Behavior in Ternary Systems Containing Nonylphenol Ethoxylate Surfactant, Water and Hydrocarbon Oil (보조계면활성제가 노닐페놀 에톡실레이트 계면활성제, 탄화수소 오일, 물로 이루어진 삼성분계의 상평형 및 동적거동에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, the effects of cosurfactant on phase equilibrium and dynamic behavior were studied in systems containing nonylphenol ethoxylate (NP) surfactant solutions and nonpolar hydrocarbon oils. All the cosurfactants used during this study such as n-pentanol, n-octanol and n-decanol acted as a hydrophobic additive and the hydrophobic effect was found to increase with both increases in chain length and amount of addition of a cosurfactant. Dynamic behavior studies under hydrophilic conditions showed that the solubilization of hydrocarbon oil by NP micellar solution is controlled by an interface-controlled mechanism rather than a diffusion-controlled mechanism. Both spontaneous emulsification of water into oil phase and expansion of oil drop were observed under lipophilic conditions because of diffusion of surfactant and water into oil phase. Under conditions of a three phase region including a middle-phase microemulsion, both rapid solubilization and emulsification of oil into aqueous solutions were found mainly due to the existence of ultralow interfacial tension.

고온가압소결한 SiCf/SiC 복합체에서 보호층으로써의 SiC 층이 기계적 물성에 미치는 영향

  • 고온가압소결으로 제조된 SiCf/SiC 복합체는 부식과 침식에 강하고 우수한 열적 성질과 고온에서의 높은 기계적 강도를 유지하는 장점을 가진 복합체다. 복합체의 파괴인성은 섬유와 기지 사이에 존재하는 열분해탄소 (PyC) 계면층에 의해 큰 영향을 받는데, 고온가압소결중 첨가되는 소결조제 ($Y_2O_3$, MgO, $Al_2O_3$)와 반응하여 계면이 손상되어 복합체의 기계적 특성치가 낮아지는 결과를 보였다. 본 연구에서는 계면의 손상을 보호하고자 PyC 계면상 위에 SiC 층을 증착하였는데 계면층과 SiC 층의 증착은 화학기상 증착법(CVD)을, 기지채움 공정은 전기영동법(EPD)과 고온가압소결방법(Hot Pressing)을 이용하여 복합체를 제조하였다. Tyranno-SA 섬유에 소스가스인 메탄을 열분해 하여 200nm 두께로 PyC 계면상을 증착하고, 두께를 달리하여 보호층으로써의 SiC 층을 single 과 double layer로 증착하였다. SiC 나노분말과 소결 첨가제인 $Y_2O_3$, $Al_2O_3$, MgO를 첨가한 슬러리를 전기영동법(EPD)을 이용하여 섬유내부에 슬러리를 함침시켰고, 이러한 프리폼을 $1750^{\circ}C$/20MPa의 조건으로 고온 가압소결 하여 $SiC_f$/SiC 복합체를 제조하였다. 이렇게 single layer와 double layer로 제조된 $SiC_f$/SiC 복합체에 대해 밀도와 미세구조를 관찰하였고, 기계적 특성을 비교하여 보호층으로써의 SiC 증착효과를 고찰하고자 하였다.

Effects of Intermetallic Compounds Formed during Flip Chip Process on the Interfacial Reactions and Bonding Characteristics (플립칩 공정시 반응생성물이 계면반응 및 접합특성에 미치는 영향)

  • We studied interfacial reaction and bonding characteristics of a flip chip bonding with the viewpoint of formation behavior of intermetallic compounds. For this purpose, Sn-0.7Cu and Sn-3Cu solders were reflowed on the Al/Cu and Al/Ni UBMs. When Sn-0.7Cu was reflowed on the Al/Cu UBM, no intermetallic compounds were formed at the solder/UBM interface. The $Cu_6Sn_5$ intermetallic compounds formed by reflowing Sn-3Cu solder on the Al/Cu UBM were spalled from the interface, resulting in delamination of the solder/UBM interface. On the other hand, the $(Cu,Ni)_6Sn_5$ intermetallic compounds were formed by reflowing of Sn-0.7Cu and Sn-3Cu on the Al/Ni UBM and the interfacial bonding between the Sn-Cu solders and the Al/Ni UBM was kept stable.

Removal of Co++ Ion in the Hollow Fiber Ultrafiltration System using Anion Surfactant Micellar Enhancement (음이온 계면활성제 미셀형성을 이용한 중공사 한외여과막 시스템에서의 코발트(Co)이온 제거)

  • Removal of metal ions on the ultrafiltration membrane with micellar-enhanced with anion surfactants is a recently developed technique which can remove heavy metals and small molecular weight ions from wastewater with simple separation process and without a phase change. Above a certain concentration, so called the critical micelle con binding cationic cobalt ions and anionic surfactants, were removed by ultrafiltration membrane. The transmembrane pressure difference had a relatively small effect on the rejection coefficient of metal ions on the ultrafiltration membrane whereas the level of anionic surfactant-to-metal ratio (S/M) had a substantial effect.

Effect of surfactant on the micelle process for the pre-purification of paclitaxel (Paclitaxel 전처리를 위한 마이셀 공정에서의 계면활성제 영향)

  • The micelle process was developed for pre-purifying paclitaxel from plant cell cultures of Taxus chinensis, giving a high purity and yield. The approach in this work was to transfer paclitaxel in the crude extract to an aqueous surfactant solution as a micelle, allowing organic solvents to be used for removal of lipids and non-polar impurities. In this work, the effects of various surfactants such as CPC, CTMAC, LTMAC, SDS, AOT, Tween, PEG, and Triton were examined on the yield, purity, and phase separation time in micelle process. Among these surfactants, CTMAC (5%, w/v) gave the best result in terms of paclitaxel yield (${\sim}99%$), purity (${\sim}21%$), and phase separation time (30 min). The use of micelles in the pre-purification process allows for rapid and efficient separation of paclitaxel from interfering compounds and dramatically increases the yield and purity of crude paclitaxel for subsequent purification steps.

A Study on Synthesis of Glycidol Based Nonionic Surfactant (글리시돌을 원료로 한 비이온 계면활성제 합성에 관한 연구)

  • The PGLE and PGLE3 nonionic surfactants were synthesized from the reaction between glycidol and lauryl acid and their structures were confirmed by $^1H$ and $^{13}C$ NMR analysis. The CMCs of PGLE and PGLE3 surfactants were found to be $3.59{\times}10^{-2}$ mol/L and $8.80{\times}10^{-2}$ mol/L respectively and the surface tensions at their CMC conditions were 26.09 mN/m and 28.68 mN/m respectively. Dynamic surface tension measurement has shown that the adsorption rate of surfactant molecules at the interface between air and surfactant solution was found to be relatively fast in both surfactant systems, presumably due to high mobility of surfactant molecules. The contact angles of PGLE and PGLE3 nonionic surfactants were $25.5^{\circ}$ and $9.5^{\circ}$ respectively. Dynamic interfacial tension measurement showed that both surfactant systems reached equilibrium in 20 minutes and the interfacial tensions at equilibrium condition in both systems were 0.42 mN/m and 0.53 mN/m respectively. The PGLE surfactant system has indicated higher foam stability than the PGLE3 surfactant system, which is consistent with surface tension measurement. The phase behavior experiments performed at $25{\sim}60^{\circ}C$ in systems containing nonionic surfactant, water, n-hydrocarbon oil and cosurfactant showed a lower phase or oil in water microemulsion in equilibrium with excess oil phase at all conditions investigated during this study.

  • 산업폐수는 종종 희석용액 내에 많은 유독성 물질을 함유하고 있다. 산업폐수를 처리하는 분리공정으로 역삼투막과 한외여과와 같은 막분리 기술은 분리 공정이 간단하고 상변화없이 폐수용량을 크게 감소시킬 수 있고 에너지 소모가 작은 장점을 가지고 있어 그 적용이 확산되고 있다. 계면활성제의 흡착성을 이용한 한외여과 막분리는 높은 막투과속도와 계면활성제의 높은 선택성이 결합된 것인데, Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate(SDS)와 같은 계면활성제를 이용하여 폐수로부터 불용성 중금속 이온과 독성의 유기물질을 분리하는 데에 적용할 수 있다. 임계미셀농도(CMC) 이상에서의 농도에서, 60~200 계면활성제 분자들이 거대분자나 미셀을 형성하면서 서로 응집된다. 그러므로 음으로 하전된 미셀과 결합된 금속 음이온은 2,000에서 10,000 범위의 분자량을 가지는데 역삼투막(RO)보다 작은 압력에서 상당히 큰 막투과속도를 가진 한외여과막에 의해 선택적으로 제거될 수 있다 본 연구의 목적은 중공사 한외여과막의 막투과속도에 미치는 인자들의 영향과, 계면활성제의 흡착성을 이용한 중공사 한외여과 막분리계 성능에 미치는 금속의 형태, S/M 몰비등의 효과를 결정하는데 있다.

Separation of Surfactants by UF Membrane (UF막에 의한 계면활성제의 분리)

  • 계면활성제는 섬유, 의약품, 화장품, 식품, 조선, 토목, 건축, 광업, 가정용 세제 등 인간생활에 폭넓게 이용되고 있다. 계면활성제의 사용범위가 넓어짐에 따라 계면활성제 자체의 오염성 때문에 분리대상 물질이나 재사용을 위한 회수물질로 간주되고 있다. 특정물질의 분리$\cdot$회수를 위한 분리막 기술은 공정이 간단하고 상변화를 수반하지 않으므로 에너지 소모가 작은 장점들을 가지고 있어 폐수처리, 수처리, 대기오염 방지등에 이용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 비교적 소수기가 짧아서 저온에서도 잘 녹고, 세정성이 양호하여 세제, 유화제, 섬유제품의 침투제로 널리 이용되고 있는 음이온 계면활성제 SDS와 SLS용액의 한외여과에 대한 투과실험을 수행하였다. 또한 음이온 계면활성제와 인체에 유해한 금속이온($Cd^{++}, Cu^{++}, Zn^{++}$) 혼합물에 대한 제거실험을 실시하였다.
