  • In this study, an efficient sequential bridging method to characterize both the particle size effect and concentration effect on the mechanical properties of nanocomposites at high volume fraction is suggested through a molecular dynamics(MD) simulations and micromechanics of composites materials. The Young's modulus and the shear modulus of the nanocomposites at various particle radius and at 12% volume fraction were obtained from MD simulations and multi-inclusion model was adopted to describe both modulus in continuum model. In order to describe the particle size effect, an additional phase, effective interface, was adopted as characteristic phase and the non-dilute concentration effect which appears at 12% volume fraction was describe via the variation of the elastic modulus of the infinite medium. Both the elastic modulus of the interface and infinite medium were fitted into functions of particle radius for the applicability of the present bridging method at various particle radii. Using the present bridging method the elastic modulus of the nanocomposites was efficiently obtained with accuracy. In addition, the effect of the interface thickness and modulus on the elastic modulus of the nanocomposite was investigated.

  • Exterior finishing materials of artificial stones are manufactured with the mixture of water, cement, stone powder and light-weight aggregate. In this research, we tried to find a way of increasing the physical properties and decreasing the manufacturing cost of artificial stone. So, we used ${\beta}$-NSF base surfactant and vinsol base surfactant to the artificial stone mixture instead of light-weight aggregate. The optimum dosage of the ${\beta}$-NSF and vinsol surfactants for artificial stone are found to be 1.0 wt % of cement, respectively. The physical properties increased ca. 20% and the durability for freezing & thawing of the new artificial stone increased ca. 300%. While the manufacturing cost of the new artificial stone decreased as much as 30%.

  • It was investigated that the effect of surface modification and concentration of fumed silica on the adhesion properties and thermal stability of 2-EHA/AA pressure sensitive adhesive (PSAs) prepared by UV irradiation. The influence of repeating units of crosslinking agent on PSAs were also studied. From SEM analysis, PSAs synthesized with surface modified silica had finer dispersion of silica particles in polymer matrix due to the interfacial interaction. Results of the study showed that increase in tack and peel strength when under 0.3 wt% of silane treated silica were added in the reaction mixture. The addition of PEGDMA for crosslinking agent offers positive effect on adhesion properties in comparison with PSAs using EGDMA for crosslinker, which may be attributed to high mobility of ethylene oxide repeating units in PEGDMA. From the thermal degradation residue of PSAs, it was revealed that thermal stability was improved with silica addition due to the strong interfacial bonding between silane modified silica and polymer matrix, which may act as a thermal barriers into 2-EHA/AA PSAs.

  • The three types of surfactants such as nonylphenoxy poly(ethylene) ethanol homologues, caster oil poly(ethylene) ethanol homologues, and sodium perfluoroalkyl carboxylates are used to improve the wettability of rubber impression material. Among the surfactants, the usage of sodium perfluoroalkyl carboxylates containing fluoro group resulted in the lowest surface energy of impression material and the result gave the positive effect on the wettability of rubber impression material to teeth. Also, the anti-foaming agents were used to reduce or remove the hydrogen gas generating on the impression material by reaction. In the case of rubber impression material containing sodium perfluoroalkyl carboxylate as a surfactant, it was found that the tear strength of rubber impression material increased over 3 N/mm with the addition of anti-forming agent. Therefore, the anti-foaming agent could contribute to the mechanical property of rubber impression material without the change of surface property.

  • Carbon fiber (CF) reinforced polypropylene (PP) compositeis was increased to amount consumed. In this study, recycle of composites by recycle times. CF was containing 20%. Mechanical and interfacial propertis of CF/PP was evaluation for number of recycle time. Mechanical assessment of CF/PP was tension, bending, fatigue tension test and izod test method. Interfacial assessment of CF/PP was wettability test and FE-SEM of fracture surface method. Fiber and matrix was changed to recycle time. The more recycle of CF/PP, the more interfacial bonding was decreased. Because fiber and matrix was damaged to thermal damage. And then reinforced CF was shorter than original shape.

  • This study was to investigate the effect of main monomer, butyl acrylate instead of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, of acrylic PSAs on adhesive properties. The copolymers of butyl acrylate, acrylic acid and 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate were synthesized and their adhesive properties were investigated after crosslinking with two different agents. Comparing to 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate-based one which has branch-like side groups, butyl acrylate-based PSA with linear side groups show poor adhesive properties. In case of crosslinking agent, epoxy-typed agent than isocyanate-typed one showed better properties than isocyanate-typed one because epoxy-typed agent has more crosslinking sites and produces more flexible bonds, ester and ether, than isocynate-typed one. Most adhesive properties of PSAs were increased with acid content.

  • The purpose of this work is to investigate the specific gravity, thermal, and mechanical property changes of polypropylene (PP)/mica composites before and after solid-state extrusion. On increasing the filler content, the specific gravity of the composites increased. The specific gravity of the oriented specimen containing filler in PP matrix is found to be much smaller than that of pre-specimen due to the formation of more microvoids. The presence of microvoids in the case of oriented composite specimen significantly affected the tensile and flexural properties of the composites. Both flexural strength and modulus of the composites showed maxima when the mica contents was 10 wt%, regardless of the orientation via solid state extrusion.
