  • Vibrational behaviors of highway girder bridges due to heavy traffics are discussed, and empirical formulae for impact factors are suggested in this paper. Appropriate vehicle model for vibration analysis is found and impact factors are calculated with different surface roughnesses, vehicle speeds and span lengths. It is shown that the present codes tend to underestimate impact factors.

  • 이 논문은 나대지에서 획득한 polarimetric SAR 자료의 후방 산란 계수(backscattering coefficient) 분석을 위한 surface parameters 추출 및 forward mapping에 대하여 서술하였다. Surface parameter는 토양의 거칠기(ks), 수분 함량(m/sub v/), 유전 상수(ε/sub m/) 등이 포함되어 있고, 유전 상수의 추정을 위하여 0.3-1.3GHz 구간의 자료를 기반으로 제안된 N. R. Peplinski의 경험상의 모델(Empirical Model) 알고리즘을 사용하였다. 추정된 surface parameter는 polarimetric SAR 자료의 산란 현상을 특징짓기 위한 forward mapping의 입력 값으로 이용되었으며, scattering model로 Oh의 경험상의 모델을 사용하였다. 각각의 surface parameter ks, θ, m/sub v/는 Oh 모델을 이용한 시뮬레이션을 통하여 레이더 후방 산란 계수에 미치는 영향에 대하여 조사되었다.

  • The resilient modulus which is presented mechanical properties of compacted subbase material is the design parameter on the Mechanistic - Empirical pavement design guide. The compaction control method on the Mechanistic - Empirical pavement design guide will be the way to confirm whether the in-situ elastic modulus measured after the compaction meets the resilient modulus which is applied the design. The resilient modulus in this study is calculated by the neural network suggested by Korea Pavement Research Program, and degree of compaction as the existing compaction control test and plate bearing capacity test(PBT) was performed to confirm whether the in-situ elastic modulus is measured. The Light Falling Weight Deflectometer(LFWD) is additionally tested for correlation analysis between each in-situ elastic modulus and resilient modulus, and is proposed correlation equation and test interval which can reduced overall testing cost. Also, the subbase compaction control procedure based on the in-situ elastic modulus is proposed using the in-situ PBT and LFWD test result.

Estimation of Bed Resistance in Gravel-bed Rivers Using the Equivalent Roughness Height (등가조고를 이용한 자갈하천의 하상저항 산정)

  • The objective of this study is to estimate bed-resistance in gravel-bed rivers using the equivalent roughness height($k_s$). We calculated the friction factor(f) with the measured data from 8 domestic gravel-bed rivers and investigated the size distributions of the bed materials. The averaged $k_s$ in each cross-section, which is determined under the hypothesis that the vertical velocity distribution follows the logarithmic law, is compared with the reach $k_s$ which is calculated with the cumulative grain diameter distribution curve of bed materials. Moreover, the applicability of existing formulae, such as Strickler type equations, is examined by comparing with Manning's n value converted from the $k_s$. According to the results, the reach $k_s$ proves to be a good indicator of representative characteristic of bed materials in a reach, and the Manning's n based on the reach $k_s$ is appropriate for practical estimation of the bed-resistance, for RMS errors between calculated and measured Manning's n is less than 0.003. The correlation between the $k_s$ and specified bed-material size($D_i$) is very low, so it is difficult to select a proper one among the existing empirical equations.

  • The multivaiate empirical distribution function (MEDF) is defined in this work. The MEDF's expectation and variance are derived and we have shown the MEDF converges to its real distribution function. Based on random samples from bivariate standard normal distribution with various correlation coefficients, we also obtain MEDFs and propose two kinds of graphical methods to visualize MEDFs on two dimensional plane. One is represented with at most n stairs with similar arguments as the step function, and the other is described with at most n curves which look like bivariate quantile vector. Even though these two descriptive methods could be expressed with three dimensional space, two dimensional representation is obtained with ease and it is enough to explain characteristics of bivariate distribution functions. Hence, it is possible to visualize trivariate empirical distribution functions with three dimensional quantile vectors. With bivariate and four variate illustrative examples, the proposed MEDFs descriptive plots are obtained and explored.

Unsaturated Permeability Characteristics of Silty Sand on the Nak-dong River (낙동강 실트질 모래에 대한 불포화 투수특성)

  • In this paper, using the principle of Static Measurement Methods suggested by Huang (1998), a new experimental device has been made and used in order to calculate the unsaturated permeability of Nak-dong river sand with silt which is an important basic property in the unsaturated soil. This device was designed to measure changes of the unsaturated permeability according to the increase of matric suction. The value of the unsaturated permeability obtained in testing and that obtained using the empirical permeability functional formula were compared and analyzed. As a result, the value of the unsaturated permeability tends to be decreased according to the increase of relative density, silt content and matric suction. This tendency shows it is very closely related to the change of moisture content and void ratio. The empirical permeability functional formula presented by Frelund & Xing (1995) was regarded as the most appropriate model to represent the unsaturated permeability of Nak-dong River silty sand.

Correlation Model between Strength and stiffness characteristics for Subgrade Soils in Korea (국내 노상토의 강도 및 강성도 특성 상관모형)

  • Deformational characteristics of subgrade soils are very important input parameters for pavement design. It is necessary to make an amount of effort to estimate experimentally the modulus of subgrade soils. In case of designing simple (or lower level) pavement section, the estimation of the modulus based on experiments must cause an excessive cost. It has proposed various empirical correlation models to estimate the modulus from basic properties of the materials or more simple alternative tests. Seven subgrade soils in Korea were tested in this study. It was founded that the deformational characteristics of subgrade soils in Korea has a close relation to strength characteristics, the empirical correlation model was proposed. There was a close relation between cohesion value and modulus at low confining stress ($r^2=0.93$). By comparing with the measured modulus and the modulus determined by proposed correlation model from strength characteristics, the value of the coefficient of determination ($r^2$) is 0.75.

  • 본 연구에서는 국내의 발파 자료를 이용하여 지반진동을 무차원적으로 예측하는 경험식을 도출하였다. 또 지반진동에 의한 구조물진동의 증폭계수를 산정하여 구조물 예상 응답스펙트럼을 작도할 수 있도록 하였다.

  • 마찰계수는 서로 접촉하여 운동하는 두 물체간의 특성으로 간주되며 일반적으로 상대속도나 작용하중에 별로 영향을 받지 않는 것으로 알려져 있다. 화학적으로나 물리적으로 오염되지 않은 깨끗한 금속간의 마찰실험의 경우, 이 실험이 불활성 가스나 진공내에서 행해질 경우 상당히 큰 마찰저항을 경험하게 되나, 공기중에서의 실험에서는 작은 마찰저항이 기록되어 산화막이나 다른 오염물에 의해 형성된 막이 마찰저항을 감소시킨다고 보고 있다.
