  • This study aims to grasp how to understand the difference in return on investment (ROI) or the cost-benefit ratio in forty-two domestic and overseas studies of library valuation, using a meta-analytical review method. Meta-analysis, a quantitative analysis on the findings of previous studies, was conducted to gather the general findings and lessons from prior empirical research. The results of meta-regression analysis indicate that the pattern of findings is consistent with our expectations regarding the effect of benefit scope and per capita GDP included in the ROI figure. This study appears to be the first meta-analytical review conducted on library valuations and the findings provide strong implications for the policy-making process.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the effects of the educational context variables on 8th-grade science achievement of 5 top performing countries(Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan) in TIMSS 2015. TIMSS 2015 science data and questionnaire results were used for fitting Hierarchical Linear Model (HLM) in this study. According to the results, such student-level variables as home resources for learning, students' interest in science learning, valuing science, Students' Educational Expectations gave significant influence on the science achievement of Korean students. School-level variables including Student Economic Background, and School Emphasis on Academic Success gave significant influence on the science achievement of Korean students. Comparing 5 countries, home resources for learning, students' interest in science learning, Students' Educational Expectations gave significant influence on the science achievement in all 5 countries. At the school level, Student Economic Background is statistically significant in explaining students' science achievement gap in all countries except Japan, and Teaching Limited by Student Needs gave significant influence on the science achievement in all countries except Korea. Discussed in the conclusion are ways to improve middle-school science teaching and learning including reducing the education divide among socioeconomic status, teaching innovation for competency education, inquiry and reinforcement of lab activities in science classes, and so on.

The Adolescents' offensive character was assessed by Buss-Durkee Hostility Inventory by Buss and Durkee(1957). For data analyses. t-tests. one-way ANOVAS. Scheffe Tests for pairwise comparison. pearson's correlations were used. In testing all hypotheses. .05 was used as a significant level in this study. Results showed that the adolescents' perception of marital conflict was positively associated with the adolescents' offensive character. That is, the way the adolescents saw marital conflict often resulted in the adolescents' offensive character.

  • This study examines gender differentials in depression among Korean older adults. Using logistic regression and decomposition methods, this study analyzes factors that predict depression of a full sample and separate male/female samples, respectively. Further, this study decomposes factors that affect gender differentials in depression into two components: the distributions of individual variables and the returns to risk. This study finds the variables that separately predict depression by gender. For male, having a smaller social network is associated with depression; however for female, the number of falls is associated with depression. This study also finds that being married, having greater satisfaction with current financial situation, and having good physical health increases the gap between males' and females'depression. Married male have greater returns from marriage than females. If females had the same returns as male, then the gap would have decreased by about 40%.

The results are as follows; the significant variables were the relationship with teachers, satisfaction with Korean educational system, peer relationship, emotional capability, parent-teacher relationship($R^2=45.3%$); and the effect of microsystem was the strongest($R^2=35.7%$). This research is meaningful of analyzing school life satisfaction of commercial high school in terms of ecological perspective.

As a conclusion, oral health belief was identified as a factor of salience through understanding that oral health belief of the students in the dental hygienics department effects on oral health behavior based on an oral health belief model, and it can be concluded that the necessity of oral health belief investigation should be discussed as a crucial issue to provide a more effective oral health promotion plan.
