  • This paper is the result of an investigation of a PORTABLE SLIP METER(ONO PPSM) by means of an experiment to determine its validity as a slip meter. ONO PPSM is a portable slip meter that was designed to address the weak points of PULL SLIP METER(O-Y PSM), which can be used to obtain an accurate measurement of slip resistance, but is very heavy and difficult to operate. To determine the stability of the measurement result of ONO PPSM, we measured the slip resistance against 4 different kind of floor materials. Our findings showed that the coefficient of variability of CSR' is less than 0.05. Furthermore, we verified the relationship between CSR' and CSR. More specifically, by performing the slip test against 7 different kinds of inorganic matter floor materials, we increased the usability of ONO PPSM as a slip meter by suggesting a method of sharing the evaluation index of slip of CSR' and C.S.R.

  • The floor slip test method using O-Y·PSM was developed based on the risk assessment and sense of slip by the users implementing actions such as changing walking direction on a floor. This test method is regulated under the Korea Industrial Standard KS M 3510, and in the Korea Industrial Standard KS F 3230, the article of KS M 3510 is cited. Yet, in the standard, the surface condition of test or slip adjustment method is merely mentioned or difficult to be found, and thus it creates confusion in floor slip test using O-Y·PSM. Therefore, this study is to provide the useful data to revise the relative standard through the standardization study including various surface conditions of sample and slip adjustment method used in floor slip test method using O-Y·PSM.

  • The safety concern of slipping on floors in South Korea has come to the fore as a social problem, but the occurrence of such accidents has not decreased. Slip and fall accidents have several causes, but they are especially common when there is soapy water on the floor during a shower or a bath. Despite this situation, it can be said that there is a lack of standards on surface contamination materials used in floor slip resistance testing. Therefore, in this study, we conducted a survey to identify the components and quantity of soapy water that actually results from a user taking a shower, and the standardization of contamination materials. Based on the results of this experiment, we provide a surface contamination material that can replace the soapy water used in floor slip resistance testing.

  • For the slip resistance test of shower room floor, the "O-Y Pull Slip Meter method (O-Y·PSM)" regulated under KS M 3510. This test method uses cooking oil as a substitute of soapy water, and thus it does not reflect the real condition. In this study, on 10 types of floor material samples, the Coefficient of Slip Resistance Bath (CSR·B) on bare foot between 10 types of body wash solution and 6 types of SDS solution was compared. The body wash solution is a mixture of soap and water in 1:20 ratio. As a result, SDS 0.1% solution was the most suitable for a substitute of soapy water in shower.
