  • The goal of this study is to propose a new method to capture the qualitative person spatial behavior. Beyond tracking or indexing the change of the location of a person, the changes in the relationships between a person and its environment are considered as the main source for the formal model of this study. Specifically, this paper focuses on the movement behavior of a person near the boundary of a region. To capture the behavior of person near the boundary of regions, a new formal approach for integrating an object's scope of influence is described. Such an object, a spatio-temporally extended point (STEP), is considered here by addressing its scope of influence as potential events or interactions area in conjunction with its location. The formalism presented is based on a topological data model and introduces a 12-intersection model to represent the topological relations between a region and the STEP in 2-dimensional space. From the perspective of STEP concept, a prototype analysis results are provided by using GPS tracking data in real world.

  • In this paper, we propose a vision and depth information based real-time hand gesture interface method using finger joint estimation. For this, the areas of left and right hands are segmented after mapping of the visual image and depth information image, and labeling and boundary noise removal is performed. Then, the centroid point and rotation angle of each hand area are calculated. Afterwards, a circle is expanded at following pattern from a centroid point of the hand to detect joint points and end points of the finger by obtaining the midway points of the hand boundary crossing and the hand model is recognized. Experimental results that our method enabled fingertip distinction and recognized various hand gestures fast and accurately. As a result of the experiment on various hand poses with the hidden fingers using both hands, the accuracy showed over 90% and the performance indicated over 25 fps. The proposed method can be used as a without contacts input interface in HCI control, education, and game applications.

  • In the paper, we try to develop the methodology for updating road networks of large-scale digital maps by using construction drawing data. For the purpose, it is pre-requite step to merge road networks detached in CAD drawing data. As such, tie points are identified in neighboring drawings and used for solving the parameters of 2D conformal transformation between drawings. Then, the merged road network in CAD data is transformed to the coordinate system of digital maps. In the process, IPs in the drawings are considered as control information and 2D affine transformation is selected for coordinate transformation. Through the experiments with real dataset, we can identify that the developed method is valid and generally applicable.

  • An experimental study was conducted at a Mach number of 2.0 to investigate the buzz suppression method on an axisymmetric, external compression supersonic inlet. The inlet model has a fixed geometry with no internal contraction. The inlet configuration was altered by changing the cowling. Results show that source of buzz has been related to the existence in the flow field of velocity discontinuity across a vortex sheet which originates from a shock intersection point. With external compression inlet, buzz can be suppressed by positioning the oblique shock slightly inside or outside of the cowl.

  • This paper is to consider conceptually a formation of food-networks and border-crossing of transnational marriage migrant households on the basis of actor-network theory, and to analyze empirical data on the issues collected by interview with marriage migrant women living around Daegu, S.Korea. Some research results can be argued as follows: First, food can be seen, not as a single material object, but as a multiple and hybrid network of human and nonhuman (material and institutional) actors, in which activities of food cooking and eating are regulated by and (re)construct social relations and placeness of households. Secondly, food-networks in marriage migrant households implement relationships of micro-power (and attachment) in the process of its (re)formation, and hence the food-network, it can be argued, is a field of power in which conflicts and compromising around food cooking and eating are intersecting each others. Thirdly, food-networks in marriage migrant households in both their origin country and in the Korean home are not only affected by macro natural and social environments but also by micro placeness of the households, both of which constitute the food-networks and operate in relations with other actors in the netwroks. Finally, food-networks in marriage migrant households reflect multiple and multi-scalar spatial mobility and placeness of transnational food culture, through which they express topologically 'fluid space' and 'absent presence', in which marriage migrant women can (or cannot) conduct social and cultural border-crossing.

  • Although Support Vector Machine(SVM) has been used in various fields such as bankruptcy prediction model, the hyperplane learned by SVM in class imbalance problem can be severely skewed toward minority class and has a negative impact on performance because the area of majority class is expanded while the area of minority class is invaded. This study proposed optimized uneven margin SVM(OPT-UMSVM) combining threshold moving or post scaling method with UMSVM to cope with the limitation of the traditional even margin SVM(EMSVM) in class imbalance problem. OPT-UMSVM readjusted the skewed hyperplane to the majority class and had better generation ability than EMSVM improving the sensitivity of minority class and calculating the optimized performance. To validate OPT-UMSVM, 10-fold cross validations were performed on five sub-datasets with different imbalance ratio values. Empirical results showed two main findings. First, UMSVM had a weak effect on improving the performance of EMSVM in balanced datasets, but it greatly outperformed EMSVM in severely imbalanced datasets. Second, compared to EMSVM and conventional UMSVM, OPT-UMSVM had better performance in both balanced and imbalanced datasets and showed a significant difference performance especially in severely imbalanced datasets.

  • The main research is on how to find source stories and develop and utilize content that will properly show the value of Panmunjom and the surrounding DMZ on the Korean Peninsula, which are receiving worldwide attention. Three methods were used as research for the high-end branding of Panmunjom and the surrounding DMZ. The first is the interest of prospective visitors through the travel cycle, using Joseph Campbell's "The Hero's Journey." The second was to incorporate Roland Bart's "third meaning" into the subjective travel and emotional stimulation, which is the trend of modern travel. The third introduced Kevin Lynch's theory and tried to place five elements of the path, edge, district, node and landmark in the core location of Panmunjom. Through the study, the excavation of contents in Panmunjom and the surrounding DMZ needs to be collected to a third meaning using a direct interview method that listens to the stories of related figures as well as organizing historical events. The priority should be given to those over the age of 80 and interviews should be conducted at least three times and over three generations. The process of building it into an archive, selecting a story, and then going through a culture collage and networking and branding takes place in five stages. This can create a virtuous circle of content processing, content utilization, job creation in the region and revitalizing the local economy through discovery of source stories and storytelling. Content development should be able to touch sensibility while saving time, history, place, originality and sincerity. Taking the center between tourism and travel, development and damage concerns, a careful but long-term plan and large-scale discovery of source stories should be made, and a consensus should be formed on the need for proper storytelling.

  • The errors between track segments or at the cross-over points of shipborne gravity were successfully reduced by applying a cross-over error adjustment technique using satellite gravity. The integration of shipborne and satellite altimeter-implied free-air gravity anomalies after the cross-over error adjustment resulted in a high resolution gravity map which contains both short and long wavelength components. The successful adjustment of the cross-over errors in the shipborne gravity using the satellite gravity suggests that the shipborne gravity can be combined with the satellite anomalies characterized by a stable and long wavelength component. The resulting free-air anomaly map is evenly harmonized with both short and long wavelength anomalies. Thus the corrected anomaly map can be better used for the geological interpretation. Free-air anomalies with more than 140 mGal in total variations generally correspond to the seafloor topographic changes in their regional patterns. A series of gravity highs are aligned from the Korea Plateau to the Oki Island, which are interpreted to be caused by seamounts or volcanic topographies. The gravity minima along the western and southern shelf edge are associated not only with the local basement morphology and thick sediment fill at the continental margin, but also possibly with the crustal edge effect known for passive continental margins. Series of NE-trending linear anomalies are possibly caused by a swarm of volcanic intrusions followed the initial opening of the Ulleung Basin. The linear high anomalies in the Ulleung Plateau are terminated by the straightly NNW-trending anomalies with a sharp gradient in its western boundary which indicates a fault-line scarp. The opposite side adjoined with the fault-line scarp shows no correlation with the fault-line scarp in geometry indicating that the block might be horizontally slided from the north. A gravity high in contrast to the deepening in seafloor toward the northeastern central Ulleung Basin is probably responsible for the thin crust and shallow seated mantle. • Image co-registration is the process of overlaying two images of the same scene, one of which represents a reference image, while the other is geometrically transformed to the one. In order to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the co-registration approach, the author proposed a pre-qualified area matching algorithm which is composed of feature extraction with canny operator and area matching algorithm with cross correlation coefficient. For refining matching points, outlier detection using studentized residual was used and iteratively removes outliers at the level of three standard deviation. Throughout the pre-qualification and the refining processes, the computation time was significantly improved and the registration accuracy is enhanced. A prototype of the proposed algorithm was implemented and the performance test of 3 Landsat images of Korea. showed: (1) average RMSE error of the approach was 0.435 pixel; (2) the average number of matching points was over 25,573; (3) the average processing time was 4.2 min per image with a regular workstation equipped with a 3 GHz Intel Pentium 4 CPU and 1 Gbytes Ram. The proposed approach achieved robustness, full automation, and time efficiency.

  • The visibility graph is a well-known method for efficient path-finding with the minimum search space modelling the game world. The generalized visibility graph is constructed on the expanded obstacle boundaries to eliminate the "wall-hugging" problem which is a major disadvantage of using the visibility graph. The paths generated by the generalized visibility graph are guaranteed to be near optimal and natural-looking. In this paper we propose the method to apply the generalized visibility graph efficiently for game characters who moves among static obstacles between varying start and goal points. Even though the space is minimal once the generalized visibility graph is constructed, the construction itself is time-consuming in checking the intersection between every two links connecting nodes. The idea is that we build the map for static obstacles first and then incorporate start and goal nodes quickly. The incorporation of start and goal nodes is the part that must be executed repeatedly. Therefore we propose to use the rotational plane-sweep algorithm in the computational geometry for incorporating start and goal nodes efficiently. The simulation result shows that the execution time has been improved by 39%-68% according to running times in the game environment with multiple static obstacles.
