Fully Embedded Directional micro-Coupler into Organic Packaging Substrate with High Dielectric Film (고유전율 필름을 이용한 적층형 유기기판에 내장된 방향성 결합기)

  • 본 논문에서는 800MHz와 1.9GHz 대역의 시스템에 적용할 수 있는 20dB 방향성 결합기를 8층 PCB 기판에 내장하여 소형화 및 저가화 할 수 있도록 설계하였다. 방향성 결합기는 4층과 6층에 coupled line으로 적층함으로써, 다층 PCB기판을 최대한 활용하여 공간을 최소화하였다. 또한, 고유전율을 가진 필름을 이용하여, coupled line의 끝에 내장형 고용량 커패시터를 연결하여 설계하였다. 6 $\times$ 6 $\times$ 0.7 (height)$mm^3$ 크기로 설계된 방향성 800MHz 결합기의 경우 -20dB의 coupling 특성, -0.6dB의 transmission 특성, -25dB의 isolation 특성을 나타내었다. 패키징 기판에 내장된 방향성 결합기는 단말기 및 통신시스템의 소형화에 크게 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

The Directional Coupler Using the Vertical Coupling Structure (수직 결합 구조를 이용한 방향성 결합기)

  • In this paper, the directional coupler with half-power division is designed and fabricated by using the vertical coupling structure based on the CPW transmission-line. Even-mode and odd-mode of the vertical coupling structure can be analyzed by the conventional CPW-line and the CBCPW-line, respectively, with half thickness of the substrate. The directional coupler is designed by using the tefron substrate with the dielectric constant of 2.55 and the thickness of 0.76mm. Manufactured directional coupler has the center frequency of 2.45 GHz and the bandwidth of 66.1%. Also, the return loss and isolation are 19.52dB and 19.47dB, respectively, at the center frequency.

Design of Coupling and Rectifying Circuit for Monitoring of Transmitting Power of Maritime VHF Modem (해상 VHF 모뎀의 송신전력 모니터링을 위한 결합기 및 정류회로 설계)

  • The design of coupling and rectifying circuits for the maritime VHF digital modem is investigated in this paper. To monitor the transmitting power of the modem, a directional coupler which is used to extract a small fraction of the transmitter signal power, and a rectifying circuit which make DC voltage proportional to the coupled rf power are designed and fabricated. The parallel-coupled line coupler with directivity of above 25 dB at 160 MHz bands is designed and it is shown that the output voltage of the rectifying circuit is linearly changing from 0.85 V to 1.6 V when the transmitting power of the modem is varying from 1 W to 25 W. The proposed coupler and rectifying circuits are expected to be suitable for maritime VHF digital modem.

  • 광결합 현상은 근접한 도파로에서 발생하며 각 도파로의 에너지를 다른 도파로로 전이시킨다. 이러한 특성은 광스위치, 광변조기, 광필터 및 광결합/분리기에 널리 사용된다. 이중에서 많이 사용되는 소자중 하나가 방향성 결합기이며 크게 입력부, 접근부, 결합부로 나눌 수 있다. 이때 광결합 현상은 결합부뿐만 아니라 접근부에서도 발생하기 때문에 소멸비는 나빠지게 된다. 본 논문에서는 접근부의 입사각에 따른 소멸비 변화와 이에 대한 조건을 분석하였다. (중략)

  • In this work, a mathematical modeling of SAW coupled mode in SAW resonator filter, which is very useful in analyzing the characteristics of periodic electrode structure such as SAW reflective array and inter-digital transducers. was considered by mathematical analytic approach. The design and simulation method for resonator filter was also proposed by equivalent transduction matrix using this mathematical modeling. In order for a designer to simulate, and to design the coupled mode SAW resonator filters effectively that could be applied to mobile communication system, a design simulator for coupled mode filter was implemented by graphic user interface, and it was investigated by designing and analyzing practical SAW coupled mode resonator filter from a view point of application of this simulator.

  • In this paper, a 90$^{\circ}$ hybrid coupler with both power division and harmonic rejection characteristics is presented by applying a LPF characteristic to a conventional 90$^{\circ}$ hybrid. Since a conventional 90$^{\circ}$ hybrid coupler operates as a power divider/combiner using phase difference, it does not suppress higher order harmonics when it is incorporated with nonlinear amplifier. This requires an additional filter to take into account of the harmonics. The proposed 90$^{\circ}$hybrid coupler power provides the division capability and proper phase difference, as well as harmonic suppression characteristic by integrating LPF characteristic.

Design of Tight Coupled 1/4 Wavelength Backward-Wave Directional Coupler using Coupled Lines with Finite Metallization Thickness (도체 두께를 가진 결합선로를 이용하여 강한 결합특성을 갖는 1/4파장 역방향 방향성 결합기의 설계)

  • In this paper, the 1/4 wavelength backward-wave directional coupler using coupled lines with finite metallization thickness is described. A mode-matching method, simple and fast approach to the quasi-static analysis, has been used to analyse this structure. The numerical results show that it is possible to overcome the disadvantages of weakly coupling, low directivity, and narrow strip distance non-realizable in the case of 1/4 wavelength backward-wave directional coupler with zero thickness conductor. It is also revealed that thicker metallization causes longer coupler length in the case of backward-wave symmetrical parallel coupled line directional coupler. The finite metallization thickness can be a new parameter for tight coupling in the design of backward-wave directional couplers, which enables us to design more accurate properties of monolithic microwave integrated circuits.

  • 본 논문에서는 $90^{\circ}$ 하이브리드 결합기에 여파기 특성을 결합하여 전력분배와 하모닉 저지특성효과를 보여주고 있다. 일반적인 $90^{\circ}$ 하이브리드 결합기는 위상차를 갖고 전력을 분배, 합성하는 데에만 쓰이고 있기 때문에 비선형 소자와 결합함으로써 생기는 하모닉 성분을 억제하려면 여파기를 따로 설계해야 하는 단점이 있다. 그래서 본 논문에서는 하이브리드에 저역통과 여파기 특성을 결합함으로써 위상차와 전력분배는 물론 여파기 특성인 감쇠효과를 이용하여 하모닉 성분을 크게 감소시킬 수 있는 구조를 연구하였다.

Design of X band Microstrip Directional Couplers (X-대역 마이크로 스트? 방향성 결합기의 설계)

  • A significant new technique in the dsvelopment of micro-wave circuits is the process of untilization of coupled lines in the transverse electro-magnetic field. The bases for this technique are the application of even-and odd-mode characteristic impedances of the transmission line. This article describes the properties of directional couplers and explains a prccfdure usrd to design micro-strip directional couplers with the aid of the computer. The article also describes the experimental results obtained from seven microstrip couplers, which were built to verify the computer program and the approximate solutions. It can be seen that in cases at X-band where couplings of 10 to 20dB are required, the computer program and approximate solutions will produce good results.

  • A coupler or divider is a microwave passive component used for power coupling or dividing. Regarding the trend of current telecommunication systems monolithic integration of passive components is highly desirable. In this study by the LTCC(Low temperature co-fired ceramics) technology a 2012 size type dual band coupler with multi-layer structure was fabricated. To achieve the desired coupling values for both DCS and EGSM bands, broad side coupled patterns were used with multi-layer structure. Its characteristics such as coupling, insertion loss, isolation and directivity values were measured and compared with simulation results.
