A Study on the Development of the Quality Evaluation Standard of Web-Based Databases (웹 기반 데이터베이스의 품질평가 기준 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to design an extensive evaluation model for the quality of web-based database and to make a comparative analysis of People's awareness of the importance of assessment indices. The evaluation standard developed in this study was constituted by 19 indices and 45 elements in three different areas, including data, service and effectiveness. And a survey was conducted on database experts and nonprofessional users to find out their awareness of the importance of web-based database evaluation elements, and the findings of the study might contribute to laying the foundation for expediting more in-depth research efforts in the future.

A Review of Science of Databases and Analysis of Its Case Studies (데이터베이스의 과학에 대한 고찰 및 연구 사례 분석)

  • In this paper we introduce a novel database research area called science of databases (SoDB) and carry out a comprehensive analysis of its case studies. SoDB aims to better understand interesting phenomena observed across multiple database management systems (DBMSes). While mathematical and engineering work in the database field has been dominant, less attention has been given to scientific approaches through which DBMSes can be better understood. Scientific investigations can lead to better engineered designs through deeper understanding of query optimizers and transaction processing. The SoDB research has investigated several interesting phenomena observed across different DBMSes and provided several engineering implications based on our uncovered results. In this paper we introduce a novel scientific, empirical methodology and describe the research infrastructure to enable the methodology. We then review each of a selected group of phenomena studied and present an identified structural causal model associated with each phenomenon. We also conduct a comprehensive analysis on the case studies. Finally, we suggest future directions to expand the SoDB research.

Collection Fusion Algorithm in Distributed Multimedia Databases (분산 멀티미디어 데이터베이스에 대한 수집 융합 알고리즘)

  • With the advances in multimedia databases on the World Wide Web, it becomes more important to provide users with the search capability of distributed multimedia data. While there have been many studies about the database selection and the collection fusion for text databases. The multimedia databases on the Web have autonomous and heterogeneous properties and they use mainly the content based retrieval. The collection fusion problem of multimedia databases is concerned with the merging of results retrieved by content based retrieval from heterogeneous multimedia databases on the Web. This problem is crucial for the search in distributed multimedia databases, however, it has not been studied yet. This paper provides novel algorithms for processing the collection fusion of heterogeneous multimedia databases on the Web. We propose two heuristic algorithms for estimating the number of objects to be retrieved from local databases and an algorithm using the linear regression. Extensive experiments show the effectiveness and efficiency of these algorithms. These algorithms can provide the basis for the distributed content based retrieval algorithms for multimedia databases on the Web.

A Study on the Characteristics of Korean Journals Covered by International Abstract and Index Databases: 1990-1997 (국제 색인.초록 데이터베이스에 등재된 한국학술지의 특성 연구: 1990년 -1997년)

  • The bibliometric analysis was conducted by searching 87 abstract & index databases provided by the DIALOG to identify not only the characteristics of Korean journals covered by international databases, but also the characteristics of the databases covering such Korean journals. 248 Korean journals were identified, for which at least one paper published between 1990 and 1997 was retrievable from the DIALOG databases. These Korean journals were found in 52 databases. 141 journals(56.9%) were indexed in only one database. Most Korean journals covered in several DIALOG databases were science and engineering journals published in English. The difference in the degrees Korean journals are covered in a database is found to be statistically significant by the discipline a database covers, and by the database's journal selection policy.

  • The meaning of Database in order to manage the data which is huge in the meeting of the record which logically had become the fire tube or file 'efficiently' is widely used from the place which controls a many double meaning data. Like this data base it creates, it manages, the programs which send an answer back according to demand of the user as DBMS it calls. Like this it will be able to grasp the quality level of the data base software product which is important index from the research which index it buys it defined. Also, in order to produce the result of index it selects the collection item which is necessary and collection and analysis it leads and what kind of defect types occur substantially mainly, and it confirmed and the test and evaluation model in about data base software and a tentative instance it developed it analyzed.

Comparative Evaluation of Data Processing Performance between MySQL and Redis (MySQL과 Redis의 데이터 처리 성능 비교 평가)

  • As online activities have rapidly increased due to recent digital changes and the impact of COVID-19, the importance of large-scale data processing and maintenance is increasing. This study compares the performance of the two main types of databases widely used for data storage and management: Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) and Non-Relational Databases (NoSQL). Specifically, we measured and evaluated the execution time of data insertion, query, and deletion functions using MySQL, a representative example of RDBMS, and Redis, a representative example of NoSQL. The experimental results showed that Redis showed performance about 5.84 times faster in data insertion, 6.61 times faster in query, and 12.33 times faster in deletion than MySQL. These results demonstrate that Redis provides superior performance, especially in environments requiring large-scale data processing and maintenance. Therefore, companies and online service providers can choose NoSQL databases such as Redis to ensure more efficient data management solutions. We hope this study will be an essential reference when selecting a database based on data processing performance.

  • 본 논문에서는 시각화와 공간적, 속성 혼합 쿼리를 수행할 수 있는 관계형 데이터베이스를 설계하고 구현하였다. 쿼리에 사용되는 데이터형은 슬라이스, MPR, 볼륨 렌더링으로 시각화할 수 있으며, 쿼리는 아탈라스를 이용하는 경우와 그렇지 않는 경우를모두 고려하였다. 영상 데이터는 공간충전 곡선으로 공간적으로 클러스트링한 후 무손실 압축하여 데이터베이스에 저장된다. 본 논문은 저장 데이터의 양을 줄이기 위하여 관심영역의 크기에 따라 창의 크기가 변하는 적응적 Hibert 곡선을 제안하였으며, 실험에서 Hibert 곡선의 적용한 데이터보다 약 1.15배 높은 압축율을 보였다. 또한 아틀라스에 대한 뇌종양의 공간적 쿼리 결과를 통하여 본 의료 영상 데이터베이스의 유용성을 보였다.

  • On shipboard, several kinds of data are generated from many equipments. Although these data are mainly used for the safe navigation of ship, their usability may be enhanced if they are managed on a database. However, because these data have different formats according to the kinds of equipments, an integrated database is required. This paper presents a design and implementation of such database.

  • In mobile IT device environments, it is becoming common to use database engine, and new mobile databases are continuously developed and announced. In this paper, the most common mobile database, SQLite3 is selected and experimented to test and understand the update performance and characteristics. The results of experiment are compared with the one of Oracle database at the same condition to evaluate the experiment.
