The shell and tube heat exchangers installed in the propulsion system test complex (PSTC) at the Naro Space Center heats cryogenic helium to 500 K with a heat transfer oil. As the experimental helium outlet temperature was lower than expected (less than 100 K), the boundary layer effect of the heat transfer oil is predicted to be the cause of the performance deterioration. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was performed to verify where the boundary layer effect exists; however, the boundary layer effect has no significant impact on the performance of the heat exchanger. An alternative method to improve the performance of the heat exchanger by changing the heat transfer oil has been discussed in this paper. The low viscosity and high thermal conductivity at high temperature (~500 K) of heat transfer oil at the shell-side are required to improve the thermal performance of the heat exchanger. The experimental performance of the heat exchanger, used to exchange heat between the cryogenic helium and hot heat transfer oil at the PSTC are summarized in this paper.

This study was carried out to investigate the efficacy of surface sterilization and the physicochemical properties of electrolyzed water manufactured from various electrolytic diaphragm and electrolyte. Physical properties of electrolyzed water manufactured from the diaphragm system were the most effective at the following conditions; the distance between diaphragms was 1.0 mm and the supplying rate of 20% NaCl was 6 mL/min. The ORP, HClO content and pH at above conditions were 1,170 mV, 100 ppm and 2.5, respectively. And two stage electrolyzed system was more effective than one stage electrolyzed water manufactured from non-diaphragm system, with 4 mL/min supplying rate of 20% NaCl, was similar to the most effective diaphragm system. But ORP, HClO content and pH were abut 800 mV, 200 ppm and 9 level, respectively. Sealed electrolyzed water could be preserved more than one month at room temperature with ORP of 750 mV in non-diaphragm system and 1,150 mV in diaphragm system, and HClO content of 100 ppm. Twelve kinds of microorganism tested were sterilized within 30 seconds from initial total counts of 10$\^$5/∼10$\^$6/cfu/ml by electrolyzed water. Though the ORP and HCIO contents of electrolyzed water manufactured from various electrolyte were higher in order of NaCl>KCl>CaCl$_2$, there were no difference between the electyolytes in the efficacy of sterilization. Salmonella typhi and Vibrio Proteolyticus were also sterilized by electrolyzed water manufactured from elctrolytes of NaCl CaC1$_2$and KCl
This paper presents experimental and analytical studies on long-term behavior of square CFT columns with diaphragm. In order to investigate the effect of the diaphragm on the long~term behavior, experiments for six specimens with two diaphragms and three different column length, and three-dimensional finite element analysis for each specimen have been performed. The finite element models considering the interface behavior between the steel tube and the inner concrete were verified from comparison of the test results with the analysis results. From the test and the analysis results, the following conclusions were obtained. The confinement effect created by the diaphragm does not depends on column length and influences only a part of the whole column that is from the end to the depth which is the same to the width of the column. The shortening of the column with diaphragm which covers more than a half of the cross sectional area of the inner concrete is the same as that of the column under a load applied on the steel tube and the entire section of the inner concrete.
Strong alkaline electrolyzed water which is produced in cathode by electrolyzing the solution where electrolytes (NaCl, $K_2CO_3$ etc.) are added in diaphragm electrolytic cell, is eco-friendly and has cleaning effects. So, it is viewed as a substitution of chemical cleaner. In addition, strong alkaline electrolyzed water is being used by some Japanese automobile and precision parts manufacturing industries. When strong alkaline electrolyzed water is produced by using diaphragm electrolytic cell, it is necessarily produced at the anode side. Since strong acidic electrolyzed water produced is discarded when its utilization cannot be found, production efficiency of electrolyzed water is consequently decreased. Also, there is a weakness electrolytic efficiency is decreasing due to the pollution of diaphragm. In order to overcome this, non-diaphragm all-in-one electrolytic cell integrated with electrode reaction chamber and dilution chamber was applied. Strong alkaline electrolyzed water was produced for different composition of electrolytes, and their properties and characteristics were identified. In comparing the properties between strong alkaline electrolyzed water produced in diaphragm electrolytic cell and that produced in all-in-one electrolytic cell, the differences in ORP and chlorine concentration were found. In emulsification test to confirm surface-active capability, similar results were obtained and strong alkaline electrolyzed water produced in non-diaphragm all-in-one electrolytic cell was identified to be useable as a cleaner like strong alkaline electrolyzed water produced in diaphragm electrolytic cell. Strong alkaline electrolyzed water produced in non-diaphragm all-in-one electrolytic cell is thought to have sterilizing power because it has active chlorine which is different from strong alkaline electrolyzed water produced in diaphragm electrolytic cell.
Center of buoyancy moves along with pitch attitude variation, which causes Helium gas inclination. In this paper, movement of center of buoyancy and corresponding variation of longitudinal static stability were observed. The effect of separating wall, which is placed in the envelop to minimize movement of center of buoyancy was also investigated. Installation of separating wall was proved to be essential for current design, because movement of center of buoyancy aggravates longitudinal static stability. Investigation of longitudinal static stability for various speeds reveals a 50m airship is statically stable only in a low speed regime.
This study was carried out to investigate the efficacy of electrolyzed water manufactured with or without diaphragm on sterilization and preservation of cut-celery and shelled raw oyster. In cut-celery, total viable cell count and coliform group in the treatment of electrolyzed water were decreased to about 1/200∼1/1,000 level and about 1/100 level comparing non-treated ones. But moisture content, pH, hardness, vitamin C and residual chlorine content were showed a little difference among treatments up to 10 days at 10$^{\circ}C$. L and a color values were gradually increased in all treatments, and color differences($\Delta$E) were remarkable between treatment and untreatment sample. In overall acceptability, cut-celery treated with electrolyzed water showed somewhat higher score than that of other ones treated with tap water and 100 ppm NaClO solution until 5 days of storage. After 48 hours of storage, it was showed that VBN, total viable cell count and coliform count of shelled raw oyster treated with electrolyzed alkali water produced by non-diaphragm system are lower by about 3 mg%, 1∼2 log cycle and 2 log cycle respectively than that of ones treated with sea water. Total viable cell count of shelled raw oyster just after treatment was lower by about 1 log cycle than that of ones treated with sea water, and any significant increment was not found after 24∼48 hours of storage.
Background : As the pleural inflammation progresses, exudative pleural fluid becomes loculated rapidly with pleural thickening. Complete drainage is important to prevent pleural fibrosis, entrapment and depression of lung function. Intrapleural urokinase instillation therapy has been advocated as a method to facilitate drainage of gelatinous pleural fluid and to allow enzymatic debriment of pleural surface. This study was designed to investigate the predictors of effectiveness of intrapleural urokinase in the treatment of loculated pleural effusion. Method : Thirty-five patients received a single radiographically guided pig-tail catheter ranging in size from 10 to 12 French. Twenty-two patients had tuberculous pleural effusions, and 13 had non-tuberculous postpneumonic empyemas. A total of 240,000 units of urokinase was dissolved in 240 ml of normal saline and the aliquots of 80mL was instilled into the pleural cavity via pig-tail catheter per every 8hr. Effectiveness of intrapleural urokinase instillation therapy was assessed by biochemical markers, ultrasonography, and technical details. A greater than 50% improvement on follow-up chest radiographs was defined as success group. Result : Twenty-seven of 35 (77.1%) patients had successful outcome to urokinase instillation therapy. Duration of symptoms before admission was shorter in success group ($11.8{\pm}6.9day$) than in failure group ($26.62{\pm}16.5day$) (P<0.05). Amount of drained fluid during urokinase therapy was larger in success group ($917.1{\pm}392.7ml$) than in failure group ($613.8{\pm}259.7ml$) (P<0.05). Pleural fluid glucose was higher in success group ($89.7{\pm}35.9mg/dl$) than in failure group ($41.2{\pm}47.1mg/dl$) (P<0.05). Pleural fluid LDH was lower in success group ($878.4{\pm}654.3IU/L$) than in failure group ($2711.1{\pm}973.1IU/L$) (P<0.05). Honeycomb septated pattern on chest ultrasonography was observed in six of eight failure group, but none of success group (P<0.05). Conclusion : Longer duration of symptoms before admission, smaller amount of drained fluid during urokinase therapy, lower glucose value, higher LDH value in pleural fluid examination, and honeycomb septation pattern on chest ultrasonograph were predictors for failure group of intrapleural urokinase instillation therapy.

The present study is concerned with the analysis of three-dimensional sheet metal forming process by the upper-bound method. For the analysis a systematic approach is necessary for the expression of geometric configuration of the deforming workpiece. In the present paper geometric configuration is constructed by three unit surfaces which are defined by sweeping the vertical section curves and boundary curve. The principal components of strain increment during the process is calculated directly from the change of geometric configuration for an arbitrary triangular element. The corresponding solution is found through optimization of the total energy consumption with respect to some parameters assumed in the velocity field and geometric profile. In order to verify the effectiveness of the present method, hydrostatic bulging of a rectangular disphragm is analyzed and the computation by the present method for the geometric shape renders the good result. From the comparison of the present results with the existing experimental results and elastic-plastic finite element solutions, good agreements have been obtained for the pressure curves, polar membrane strains and pressure distributions. The present method can thus be further applied to the analysis of other three-dimensional sheet metal forming processes.
